No, it is not. Why kids think they're cool buy smoking is beyond me. Why you would rebel against your parents because they care about your health, I don't know.

As an asthmatic, I find smoking to be terribly uncool, I mean, I realize that you have a right to smoke, but shouldn't the right to smoke end where it impedes my right to breathe?

No. The government, landlords, companies, etc. keep taking away where I can smoke. Some places where I live wont even allow you to sit in your own car in the their parking lot to have a smoke, you have to actually leave the premises. Non smokers have a lot more area they can be than smokers do. You may have problems breathing around smoke, you could take advantage of all these areas that are being taken away from us, or you could just ask the person to move downwind from you. The way things are going, soon the only place people will be able to smoke is inside their own houses, and that is only if they own it, and it is not attached to any other buildings.

Let's be fair here, indoors there is no downwind, smoke is affected by gas "air" and moves gaseously. Gas, as you may know, tends to fill a room and therefore so will smoke. Also note the first rule of cigarette smoke - it always, always, ALWAYS moves toward the non-smoker. I don't mind if you don't care about the negative effects, hey, they're your lungs but it'll be a cold day in hell before I stop caring about MY health and allow the nicotine addicted people of the world expose me to a 30% increase in heart disease.

Why does it matter if it's cool or not? I smoke becasue I enjoy it, I don't do anything to be 'cool' and people who do piss me off. I'm sorry us smokers wont live long enough to become senile and dangerously stupid social parasites (btw I would never become so old that I'd have to be cared for by others, I find that to be extremely pathetic, I have enough decency to kill myself before I become that old). And please don't get on about 'causing cancer', it increases the likelihood. While that likelihood is substantial, people can smoke their entire lives and are fine while some 'I'm so afraid of my potential non-existence (death) that I want to impede others freedoms to do what they want' idiot gets lung cancer at 20 and dies in a couple years.

I don't smoke indoors, and next time you want to complain to me about smoking outside I'll point at the massive bus spewing it's exhaust in your face, then ram that tail pipe up your ass. How can you seriously get all pissy about breathing in a tiny bit of smoke outside, you know how much is fucking required to start killing cells in your lungs/throat? A tiny diluted breath of it wont do any more harm than the job you work at where you breath in all sorts of dangerous chemicals or all the shit you spew into the air via your car every day for the last however many years...

Anti-smoking people piss me off, especially with the pictures they force on my cig packs. I'm a grad student, I don't need to see over and over how badly cigarettes can ruin your lungs. I fucking know that already! I accept the risks willingly that this will likely shorten my life span! Anti-smoking people are just as annoying as pro-life morons shoving giant dead baby posters in my face.

agreed, but keeping in mind with the actual question, yes i think smoking looks cool, a cowboy without a smoke is not as visually stylish as one without, or a private eye from the 40's, or a sociopath badass in a suit.

the cigar is also interesting as it doesn't look cool in my opinion, despite the cigar being part of the stereotypes associated to it.

or was the op asking if smoking is alright or not....or are we talking about the visual appeal?

Not trying to criticize you in any way as I feel your pain, my grandpa was a smoker and a drinker for a time and he caught pnemounia after a gall stone surgery and passed away 2 years ago, but I just find it ironic you hate cigarettes but the character in your av has a cig in his mouth.
To whoever said it, I think Rock n' Roll is awesome, what are you talking about?
For the record, I don't have a problem with smokers if they are considerate and aren't blowing smoke in my face, I worked with several people who smoked and I have nothing but respect for them (well aside from the smoking part, but you get the idea).

Most people don't think its cool however they do see it as stress relief and are too addicted and weak willed to quit just because its unhealthy, my dad only smokes when hes stressed. He can go 2 weeks without a cig if hes happy, but if he pressured about work he smokes a pack a day

Here's a couple of fun little statistics. Smoking kills more people in Australia than the total number killed by drink, drugs, murder, suicide, road crashes, rail crashes, air crashes, poisoning, drowning, fires, falls, lightning, electrocution, snakes, spiders and sharks. It kills 50 people a day in Australia and 1200 in the USA. Thats half a million a year in the USA alone.
I could go on and on about the effects of smoking. But thats not what I want to discuss. We all know they are bad for you. We all know that. Closed case. The question I want to raise here is: Is smoking cool? You see someone smoking and what do you think? I wont even try to define 'cool' because that varies from person to person but Im asking the escapist community-If you see someone smoking do you consider them more stylish? More masculine or powerful? Or do you you just see a poor soul who doesnt care about their health?

Smoking... Right now I would never smoke, why would anyone? (besides the people who got addicted when they said smoking was good for you)
