Poll: So Escapist, are you a rapist?

Two reasons.

1) Every new "thing" will be ostracized and ridiculed by the media. Radio, Elvis, TV, Rock and Roll, Drugs and now it's video game's turn.

2) Games are the easiest target yet. While a concerned parent can easily listen to an Elvis or hard Rock song and decide if it's bad, you can say ANYTHING is in a game and parents and the like will just have to take your word for it since it takes much more work to view and understand a game than anything else.

(how does captcha expect me to type Russian symbols???)

No, I'm not a rapist - I am a heathen devil worshiper though. I listened to Elvis Presley once. That Presley boy is a sign of the devil I'm tellin' ya!

No, gamers aren't rapists.
I'm willing to bet there are thousands of gamers who are rapists. The point is though, the two aren't correlated at all.

Sure, some gamers are...nah, fuck it, everyone has said that already.

Yes, some old people are against video games, but that's not to say they all are. It's just beat out of proportion by the gamer media that loves to make a fuss about this. I mean "mother of four claims her son became a furry after playing Crash Bandicoot" isn't really newsworthy.

I had to laugh there... I love Viva Piñata and soon after I started playing the game/watching the show, I turned into a furry... Creepy...

OT: I love the way gamers are portrayed in the news! It's so fun trying to live up to non-gamer's expectations...

Example...
Grandmother- "Playing one of those violent video games again? I keep telling you, you shouldn't play those... they mess up your head!"
Me- "No! This isn't a bad game at all... Watch, I'll show you..."
Makarov- "Remember... No Russian"

True story...

Ha! That was the funniest thing I've read in a while! Bet that showed her. :p

Yep. Michael Atkinson's office was plainly getting sick of my correspondene... Come to think of it, I should have kept the letter I was sent asking me to stop expressing my opinion. In retrospect that was an awesome IRL trophy.

Playing video games hasn't made me into a rapist. It has turned me into a necrobiblophiliac (giant cookie if you can figure out what that means).

But, to be more serious, the same thing happened with teddie bears, movies, jazz, rock n' roll, women getting equal rights & wearing pants, and rap music. This soon shall pass, but only for ignorant fucks to get all up in arms over something new.

Right now, for a lot of people, games as a medium is still something strange and alien - and many people fear the unknown. Stuff like that is just pure gold for the media, so naturally they're going to take advantage of it.

I say, wait another two decades, then see where we stand...
That's a pretty good explanation.

This might all be over quicker than we think too, with more and more older people being drawn to games they're becoming much more familiar to the general public. When more people know more about games they won't have their opinions crafted by dodgy news stories.

I think they blame games because you do questionable things in them. For Example: Modern Warfare 2's mission in the airport.

Too many people are too stupid to believe that some people are capable of such actions. So they blame outside stimuli. First it was metal/rock(a.k.a. the devils work), then movies came up, and finally now it's video games just because it's the latest trend and you control the actions of the main character(unlike movies).

Sure people played games before, but now it's so wide spread and far more violent. But even after playing Gears, GTA IV, MW 2... etc. I have not felt the urge or desire nor have I gone out and chainsawed someone into bits, drove my car down a heavily occupied sidewalk, or for that matter walked into an airport with light machine gun and started shooting up the place. In fact most people that do shit like this have not played games, and dare I say? even heard of them. Just ask Jack The Ripper, I'm sure games did not existed during his era. Or Jeffrey Dahmer, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't(and didn't) blame games or that there isn't a single game where you get to cannibalize another person.

The media just needs an outlet to blame someone for horrendous crimes because apparently it never happened until music, movies, and games came out. So out of fear and ignorance they blame games.

Overall I'm not at all concerned because the government will never ban it. They get too much tax money from it, think about it millions of copies of one game sold(here in Canada the tax is 13% and games are $59.99). Just as well companies with enough money and influence, will always sway the law in their favor and us consumers. I mean look at tobacco and alcohol, both are known to be bad and eventually kill you. Alcohol causes people to react without thinking, wife beaters or hell even rapists for an example(not my opinion, but most everyone accepts this as fact). Yet no one has banned it. Wait scratch that. America did ban alcohol, but we've all seen how well that went. Also people like that psychiatrist are a dying breed. Soon everyone(with access to games that is) will have at least played a game... If not own one.

Now taking a chance to look back at all I have written, all I can say is this: FUCK!!! I talk too much. But intellectual debates always did interest me. Well those that have a merit in fact anyway...

Let's see. I've played a lot of Grand Theft Auto, supposedly the most rape-a-licious game ever made if Jack Thompson's to be believed. I play Fallout 3 and New Vegas which means practically every day I'm shooting off guns and laughing when people die.

And yet...*checks criminal record OH WAIT I DON'T HAVE ONE*...

So yeah.

Awh man, you're missing a yes option. I can't vote with the honesty that resides in my soul, begging to come out, screaming what my conscience failed to prevent all those years ago.

No, i'm not a rapist. I did however, preorder bulletstorm

Were not rapists....Ive never played a game where i raped anyone...i shot and killed them and then beat animals to death and used there guts as armor...and to make money.......NEVER rape...how do you make money or get items raping someone....really...everyone who plays a video game knows 1 of 3 things
1. only KILLS give you exp...
2.Quests also..but they include killing
3. and The Escapist is where you go to learn things....its like our NYTimes.

In short...WHAT GAME DO YOU RAPE PEOPLE (excluding postal/postal 2 and the Japanese sim games that we only hear about and never see...)
