There once was a user on the Escapist
who made a thread asking if you were a rapist
then the mods came in
and sent his trollish topic to the bin
and all the users went away very pissed

...

I won't quit my day job.

Games in the media are like dolphins, the surface is opposite of the reality, fox says games are the devil but have they even seen dolphins? Those things are evil horrible evil evil creatures in the D&D alignments dolphins would rank as the ultimate freaking evil. Games on the otherhand are depicted as evil in media but they are about as evil as a fluffy bunny with a unicorn sidekick in a movie about flowers and candy.

Games dont make you a dolphin, thank god.

+ 1 point for rhyming your title for this thread. But there really needs to be more options to the poll.

Soon I will be. Those poor thugs in Bulletstorm, and those poor dragons in Dragon Age, they will totally be trying to give my description to the cops in the underworld after I had my way with them. I will probably have to get some of those rape-drugs beforehand, also some tonic to keep my stamina up, so that I can enjoy torturing them for hours and hours.

Mwahahahahahaha!

See, that article was right, just thinking of Bullestorm is turning me into a dangerous person!!!!!

i always joke about being a serial rapist when people openly pay out videogames, "watch out, you're turning me on, i may knock you over the head and drag you back to my gaming cave" :p

Every bit of entertaining that started off was attacked, rock and roll, metal, TV, Movies, now games are the hot thing so it's the target.

Fox really needs to be taken down a few pegs, I wish John Stewart did the same thing he did to CNN, that was amazing...

Fox News specifically design their stories to be sensationalist and dramatic. In a way, they're the ultimate trolls: they make thigs up to get a reaction and get paid for it.

Well the news has always been biased ever since it was started and gamers portayal in the news is especially biased and is usually always some dumbass thought made up by some ass who wants money. A la Ms stupid psychologist who can't back up her statements and trys to use the publicity to sell her sexist book.

Also your poll is major win for having only one option. Me and my friend had a laugh over it.

At some point video games will become apart of main stream society in due time, just like the radio, elves hips, T.v., the internet, and books not having to do with large religions did. It's just taking slightly longer because in todays world were I can get up to date news on my phone, and said news is blowing something out of proportion. People then go on to talk about the game as if they met the developers, talked to gamers, played the game themselves, and talked to professionals, when in reality they probably only have read the title on yahoo and the two sentence description.
Note: These are just my thoughts.

Well if anyone here likes to pwn teh n00bz to the point where they wait at their spawn points then they are spawn rapists. There is rape like that in online multiplayer all the time, so there are infact some gamers who are rapists (not me though, I dont play fps multiplayer), just not the kind you commonly think of :)

In all seriousness, first us gamers were called psychotic killers, and now were getting called rapists; it seems the "psychological effects" of games on young people change every year.

Playing video games hasn't made me into a rapist. It has turned me into a necrobiblophiliac (giant cookie if you can figure out what that means).

But, to be more serious, the same thing happened with teddie bears, movies, jazz, rock n' roll, women getting equal rights & wearing pants, and rap music. This soon shall pass, but only for ignorant fucks to get all up in arms over something new.
...you have sex with dead books? either that or you read dead books... or the necronomicon maybe?

OT, some gamers are rapists, gamer =/= rapist

Playing GTA or Bulletstorm does not make me want to go out and rape people.

Harvest Moon, on the other hand...

I came to this thread to answer yes to the poll. Not of course because I am a rapist, but because this is entirely a stupid thing to get filled up over and rant about.

Really dude, to borrow something from the early 90s "take a chill pill!"

Rape is bad, m'Kay. Some people use popular targets and bad things to make a sensational statement. They want their five minutes in the spotlight, no matter what.

It's all bullshit folks. In most media outlets the only thing that matters are ratings. They will exaggerate, exploit, and lie to get what they want out of a story. The fact that there is no accurate way to predict the affects of video games doesn't make interesting news like "ZOMG HALO 3 WILL MAKE KIDS RAPE PUPPIES!!!!!!"

Sensationalism in an outlet that should be about the spreading of information. It's a fucking disgrace.

Love that video. Awesome stuff.

OT: I feel your poll is discriminatory and biased. What about those of us[footnote]I'm not a rapist. All inclusive pronouns are inaccurate in that they don't include me[/footnote] who are mentally unstable and games acted as our 'rape-trigger'? Why are we not properly represented! We are a part of this community and demand the corresponding ability to represent ourselves statistically through the means of a context relevant poll!

Seriously we.... we haven't dropped this subject yet? Did you guys actually read the FOX news article everyone is upset over? I'm guessing most of you didn't (ironic as thats all people complain FOX news does... condemn a game without even playing it). It was an entirely bland article which included a couple pro game experts and a couple idiot anti game experts with almost no editorializing itself. The only notable part about it was the cheesy artist rendition or sculpture or whatever depicting the dude getting his arm blown off. The "video games make violent/rapey people" comment was from one of those "experts" and not from anyone from FOX. It hasn't been on the FOX news site in at least a week and seems all but forgotten except in gaming circles. Yes there are the occasional sensationalist BS pieces from various news agencies but that shit hasn't gotten real traction since Mortal Kombat. No the scary government isn't going to kick down your door and take your games away and there will ALWAYS be a market for mature games so don't expect Rockstar to drop GTA and work on their own version of Cooking Mama. Methinks we gamers might need to drop the victim mentality once in awhile. All it does is empower the game-hater types.

Maybe the article should be dropped, but come on, that line was almost entirely false. The "experts" were hardly so, the line about rape was an alteration that in itself was editorialisation, and the structure of the article was such that it tried to draw from point a (Bulletstorm=bad) to point b (games attributed to increase in rape).

This was about as un-editorialised as a Beck Rant or an Olbermann "special comment." Take your pick. Should we pay attention to this crap? Maybe not. But pretending this was something it wasn't? Also wrong.
