So, while drunk, my sister asked the guy she had a crush on if they could be friends.
Yes, this really happened.
Yes, to my sister, not me.
Yes, she is over the drinking age.
No, I am not making this up.

So, forumers, have you ever screwed up as stupidly as this?

I have 2 questions:
1. Why did she ask the guy she likes if they could be friends, that just doesn't make sense?
2. You're sister is a grown ass woman why do you care?

1: because she was drunk and stupid,
2: because it's funny and I wonder if anyone else has done it.

I've done worse things. I don't understand the problem either, she could just tell him the truth or see if their relationship can evolve from friendship to something else.

Yeah, I'm not seeing any problems with her methods either.

Told someone who likes me way too much that we can only be friends? Yes, but to be fair i think the fact that he won't acknowledge i'm straight and have absolutely no interest in him makes him more at fault. Especially since i have a girlfriend and the relationship is as stable as it can get with two misanthropes.

I don't see the issue here. The whole friendzone thing is a lot easy for a chick to get out of. Its only guys that have a lot of trouble digging themselves out of that hole.

Would you rather she declared her undying love for him while drunk? This seems like much smarter move on her part, better to ask someone out when your sober.

Right. But she doesn't know if the guy likes her. So she either has to jump out or sink in this hole.

"Let's be friends" is the oldest friend-zoning line ever in the history of friend-zoning lines.
Friend-zone is one of the biggest piles of bullshit the internet has ever produced, I know loads of people (including my own parents) who's relationships were preceded by friendships. It's just a myth made up by guys who can't work out why sometimes you might not like someone in that way even if you like them as a friend.

To be fair, going to the other end of the scale while pissed is much worse.

[sub]And most guys are kind of happy at the thought that someone isn't fucking their sister.[/sub]

I'm not sure I fully understand what the situation is...

So I'm going vote for the one about clicky things, simply because I've no idea what your point or question is. :3

It is bullshit but at the same time it's not. True, yes, relationships do stem from friendships alot, but most of the time especially around younger ages (she's just above 20), relationships aren't that planned out or long-lasting. unless they're stupid and have kids.

The guy she likes is a pretty cool dude, and after her last boyfriend (the epitome of bad boyfriends, story for another setting), I decided I'd better offer her some guidance on finding half-decent males.
