Depends on just how bad the product is and how much money I'm getting paid. I'm a very guilt-driven person, but if someone wants me to hype, say, the Avatar game for a hefty sum, I'll do it. And since it's a bribe I can sneak little snippets of disdain for that game into other reviews and my conscience will be clear.

I might do the do the Pelham 123 thing
take a bribe to review a product that I think positive of to begin with

EDIT:

Probably not. Not because of any moral qualms but because I'd lose credibility and possibly future jobs.
Kudos! congrats on a nice first post also!

I'd just give the review as I planned and mention in a footnote that they offered the bribe. That'd teach 'em ^_^

No If there game is bad enough that they have to bribe me and I say its good the magazine loses respect and general credibility.

Seeing as you haven't stipulated whether the game itself is good or not I'm going to go for no.

I'd accept if the game was bad; and, I'd do a bad review anyway.

I'd feel really awful if my review led to someone buying a faulty product. I've lied in my personal life, but I have too much pride in whatever work I'm doing to compromise my integrity. If someone paid me to write a good review of something I liked, then I would not feel bad at all.

Hell no, it would utterly destroy my credibility as a reviewer and might cost me my job and four hundred quid isn't nearly enough for me to risk my job over. But then I'm of the mindset where if you NEED to bribe people to get good reviews you have no business in your chosen profession

No I wouldn't take a bribe. I'd rather give my own opinion on matters - along with trying to fair to the game; especially with positive and negative points and try my best not to let my own past experiences with other games cloud my judgement.

Of course, 'the grass is always greener on the other side'.

depends on how bad the game is, if it's average I might say it's good, if it's bad I'd say average. But if it's awful, I'd probably tear it apart.

mope, well... I would take the money then review it the way I intended it be. With the money I would give some of it to charity. Not only would his demand for the review not go his way, but he would lose money doing it. That would teach him not to bribe.

£400? That's a reasonable amount. I could do a fair bit with that, it would help me out no end at the moment with rent and everything. But at the same time, I'm a moral sort of person and wouldn't like to take a bribe.

So, I'd take the money. Then I'd give them the exact same review as I would have done anyway, whether the game is good or bad, I'll give it an honest review. And keep the money. The developer can hardly complain because if they do, I'll be able to tell people they offered me a bribe and they'll lose much more face and credit than me. And I won't be compromising my journalistic integrity, and come out £400 up. So I win regardless.

Serves them right for having such low expectations and confidence in their own game.

Take the money then when writing the review make little hints about bribes but without accually saying the company bribed me.

Yes becuase if people cant read between the lines and see that its a bad game by there own hand then i would test people every month with a review that was completely false. see what happens... i would be fired after the first month....

Yes, I also happen to work for Gamespot and IGN, I will also copy-paste my reviews from Gamespot to Gamefaqs and vice-versa.

And you kids will still trust my scores and buy the games, so nobody gets hurt... except you... ain't life grand?
