Screw that. I'd have some sort of proof they tried it, because I'd prepare for this. People who do this seriously piss me off. The designer needs to crash and burn, the reviewer needs to crash a burn. /minirant

It's not taking a bribe as long as you put "Paid spokesperson" in small font.

No way. If the site found out I did the bribe I could get fired and it would be incredible hard to find another reviewer job.

Of course I would take the bribe.
..And then I would judge the game as I see fit. Not in accordance to their silly deal.

And if anyone wishes to bribe me again, may their stupidity flourish upon my new found wealth :D

not really, I refuse to let crap games slip past the radar, for example, no amount of money could make me say anything good about Too Human

Depends on how much, AND on if the risk is worth the reward.
If the risk is I will need to train to find a new job / Prison? No probably not.

It is a review of a videogame, it's not like I'm hurting anyone. So, yes I'd take it and write the review, possibly be very passive aggressive in it, but do it otherwise.

No because when the rest of the world says the game sucks, I'll look like a moron and probably get fired when I'm caught taking bribes.

Depends on the game and how well the bribe compares to what I'm earning. If the game is a rehashed game from a series I've not reviewed before, then MAYBE, since these are the easy reviews to overlook. People know if they want another Zelda/Mario game, for example, and shouldn't look to reviews to find out. If it's something other than that, I'd feel pretty guilty about it, since someone is sure to come across a disappointment like GTA:IV as a result of my review (not saying it's a bad game, but definitely not worthy of the score it got on Metacritic).

I'd take it and say "The company bribed me, ignore me. Look for advice elsewhere or wait till the next issue."

If they asked for the money back their admitting it. I bet they wont admit it.

Hopefully I'd enjoy the game and thus wouldn't have to lie but...for £400, I think I might accept. I'd seriously consider it at the very least. I have a lot of integrity in real life, but working my ass off for a magazine...well, who's the only one benefiting from my hard graft, eh?

£400 could buy a lot of Midget Gems.

Naa, I don't like the idea of someone buying a shitty game because of me.

Though I would be happy to rip off a guy who is trying to bribe me and take the loot.

If I had already played the game and knew it was good, I would accept the money.
If I had already played the game and knew it was bad, I would still take the money and review it as I would have anyway.
If hadn't played the game at all, I'd still take the money and review it as I would anyway.

For 400£ I wouldn't do it, for one simple reason:
If anyone found out that I took a bribe, I would lose credibility and thus propably my job, so in the long run the risk is not worth the gain.
With more money involved I would defenitely be tempted.

Depends how much. I'm putting my job and my reputation on the line, they better make it worth my time.
