I don't want new consoles. But it would seem we need them otherwise we won't get new games/franchises. But I will not be getting them right away, since when they come out in New Zealand, they are disgustingly priced (The 360 was near a grand when it came out, yet with conversion rates, was cheaper in US and UK and...most other places in the world).

That seems indeed very interesting! Sound can do wonders to make you feel immersed in a game. I still wonder why the iMuse sound system which Lucasarts used in the 90s and made the tunes adapt themselves to what was happening on the screen wasn't used more or improved. I remember Spore had some interesting music technology also. I mean, what's special about games is interactivity, so I want the music and sound to be more interactive to the environment and to the action on the screen.

Also there should be some kind of development in A.I.. Really, it hasn't improved at all in all these years! F.E.A.R. still has one of the best AI and it seems to get worse every year, instead of better.

I would also like procedural stories and gameplay which adapt to your decision and abilities. No more difficulty settings! Just let the game decide if it should be easier or harder for me.

I'd also like some kind of good voice synthesis, so we could have lots and lots of dialogue without the need to pay a lot of money to actors. That way we really could have something as a full-talkie Planescape Torment and games like Mass Effect would indeed make each person's story be different, by giving you more choices and making the characters say different dialogues.

Really, graphics are like the last thing developers should focus on now.
Well now, we're both thinking the very same thing. Of course, it mainly comes down to practicality and how much development time is needed for some if not all of these features.

Curiosity. Simple, blatant, curiosity. I like new stuff.
Yeah, same.

Also because I want to say from day one, "my PC is still more powerful than this."
Yeah, well interested in what Microsoft and Sony think they can get away with. They are going to be depressingly underpowered still aren't they. Crysis 3 is going to be less demanding that Crysis. Sob. :(
The thing with Crysis was, it wasn't because the game was so gorgeous, but more that the engine was so ridiculously un-optimised that it had to have a disproportionately specced powerhouse to get 60 frames.

Look at Crysis now on full settings, it honestly isn't too impressive visually. When you think that it was 2007/08 when it was out, then yes it's great. But this idea of Crysis still being the bench at which all PC's must live or die by needs to move on. Metro 2033 became the new Crysis, and that engine was incredibly well implemented.

So yeah, it's not that Crysis 2 or 3 will lose any graphics oomph that made the first one so iconic, it's just that 2 & 3 run/will run on engines sipping significantly less system resources.

But I agree. By most accounts, Orbis will run on the equivalent of an AMD A8 WITH the integrated GPU. Way to pull a Nintendo, Sony. I've no idea about the new Xbox, though.

Honestly, for me, it's all about the games.

The WiiU is putting out some new, interesting IP (namely ZombiU), I want KH3 to be release on the PS4, I want more awesome looking Sonic titles to be released, and I'm interested in seeing what new hardware will each gaming company put out to enrich the gaming experience and not just some cheap gimmick.

Sorry, but 3D is pretty much dead. It was an interesting idea, but unlike DVDs, CDs, Blu-Rays, and digital media, it's not going to last at all.

-Once they have the cycles to devote to it, maybe we'll finally see decent AI.

-I just want to see what they'll do with the power- I'm sure it will be cool.

-It's just been too damn long; I'm bored, the devs are bored-- let's get TO it, already!

These three answers are what i`m looking for in the next generation.
I don`t expect any wonders but i would love to see a catch up to pc gaming. More players for online gaming would be great. Photorealistic doesn`t sound realistic for the next gen but real 1080p would be also nice.

Sceptic as with every new console (generation). Will wait till good titles arrive where I actually care about.

i dont care that much about consoles anymore. it seems like sony and microsoft are focusing more on media machines than gaming machines these days and honestly over the past couple years i have been drifting further from console gaming and closer to pc gaming. i guess im looking forward to pc ports not being held back by 8 year old technology but i honestly dont know if im going to continue being a console gamer this next generation. since i already have a machine that can run all current games on high setting and steam makes pc gamers a lot cheaper than console games, i really dont have much incentive to continue console gaming. i mean i love metal gear so i guess ill probably get a ps4 a few years after its released, when the price falls. but i cant say im really that excited about console gaming anymore

A crash maybe?

No really, consoles are done for after next gen. People don't want a new gen and they don't want to stay put either, consoles just aren't able to give people what they want for a reasonable price. Alot of it comes down to the fact that consoles no longer have the advantage of Plug n Play and PC's are now just as easy to use as consoles (ie, PC's got less complicated while consoles got more complicated).

Why pay for XBOX Live to play online or watch Netflix? Why put up with ads on the dashboard/XMB when you can just play on PC and for cheaper (considering Steam sales).

Another thing, I'll bet more people used their Wii/PS3 to play Virtual Console/PS1/PS2 games than they did playing current gen games (or watching Netflix). Why would those people be excited for the next gen consoles?

Looking forward to the retarded price tag, guarenteed 800-1000 since the 360 and PS3 were each 700 respectively at launch
Sony will not repeat the same mistake with PS4. I'd say more like 600 bucks at most. It's not like it's some kind of a rule for consoles to keep getting more expensive every generation. And wasn't 360 400 dollars at launch?

I was all set to say I'm not looking forward to it, because I have yet to see anything truly impressive. Then I saw "better AI" and thought "well that could be nice."

I answered with the 'powerful PC' choice, but just because I have spent quite a lot of money on my rig and I want to get that PC master race feel now and again.

But the serious answer is I am interested in seeing good AI and more loaded objects in cells to become the norm and the affects it has on gameplay.
It's the FOR SCIENCE that I'm really interested in, we have the technology and the programming, we just need it to make sense to research how to do it well and efficiently; it's a bit senseless to develop, say, a perfect method to calculate a bullet trace or explosive shrapnel when only one fifth of the people playing the game would have machines able to do such complicated calculations. (If that, if the calculation needed a high end PC)

Also people tend to forget that modern dedicated graphics processors also process the physics of a game which is a pretty tough job concerning complicated game engines, it's not all about high res textures and such.

The eyecandy comes secondary in my opinion.

I'm not looking forward to the next gen of games because I view myself as a pc gamer therefore console generations don't matter to me. Maybe I need more power for my computer but that's going to be about it. Also more power to make more photo realistic military fps's *insert sarcastic yay here*

That certainly is a possibility, but even simply "more of the same" is enough to have me quaking in my boots. This generation hasn't exactly been the most user friendly, and I doubt the next one'll be any better, especially with consoles striving to be 'the' online mediahub of your home.

Honestly, this scenario scares me more than an actual crash.

You and me both, the big three will become more anti-consumer but that may lead to a crash because people are finally start to get sick of it. Look at the Steam TOS thing, most people here love Valve but are completely against Valve in that case.

Im personally looking forward to Final Fantasy XX, Call of duty 10 and Metal Gear Solid 8, all available on PS4 and 2 of which will be exclusive.
