I use Youtube for music, mostly thats it, that and watching some Top Gear and Machinomas and Commentarys.

Thats pretty much it. Most of the original stuff is shit.

Most youtube is shite, granted, but there are a few gems, like AYBABTU and the like.

Most of the time i like Youtube, it has some nice videos about games and glitches and other fun stuff like Gmod Idiot box and all that Crycen (Kricen? Criken??) stuff too. But then again, "I'm a banana!".
I watched the video for 5 seconds or so (until the first "banana"), then triple facepalmed myself ,closed the video and deleted my recent history. I think these sorts of videos should stay in the dark corners of the Earth ( with Cthulhu). Not fun at all.

But still, i would most likely miss Youtube if it were to disappear. Just gonna have to avoid thise kinds of videos.

There is a lot of crap on youtube, but some homemade videos [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YersIyzsOpc] and official music videos [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOiP5XE2cKI] are enough to ignore the crap like that Banana Song and Fred.


Theres lots of other things that make youtube popular, like gameplay videos or trailers, you're just focusing on the crap things on youtube.

I mostly use it for finding music videos/the occasional robot chicken clip to show other people. Very occasionally after a game's been patched to find out what multiplayer glitches have been removed (MW2 for the most part), but always with the volume off for that!

I only watch youtube for playthroughs, reviews, and machinima. Nothing else. Yeah there's tons for crap on youtube but there is also gold on there too...

There's some decent content on it. Most notably that in the absence of a Hulu here in the UK (broadcasters can't come to any agreement to launch the service proper, and the regulator stomped on them collectively doing their own- the closest we have now is a gimped version someone else is running, and that only launched today, and individual channel sites) there's a lot of properly produced, thought-out content on the site.

More broadly though, it's successful because anyone can put anything on it- but with that in mind, beyond vanitycasting and personal video hosting, it really should be more considered to be a rolling audition for network execs and sites like The Escapist to find the good for us, and give them a paycheque. EDIT: And not just lazily sticking clips on the TV.

Shows you how many brainless people there are in this world. Plus, Youtube doesn't have just dumb annoying viral videos, it's got "almost" everything. There is a lot you are missing if you watch just that stuff. I can't think of any good viral comedy videos at the moment, but I'm sure there is plenty out there.
