I have to say I was genuinely taken aback by the way this past week's episode ended. I've been a South Park fan since season one (I was only 8 when it started, and I would sneak around to watch it cause my mom didn't want me to) and I'd hate to see it end.

I know it's on Netflix (i've watched all 200+ episodes) and there are websites you can watch the shows for free, but there's just something magical about seeing it on TV. I don't know. I guess I've just grown up watching South Park and have a special place for it in my book of memories.

In all of the episodes I've seen, (almost all of them) there's only been maybe 3 that I didn't genuinely crack up at at least once an episode. I think 3 episodes out of 14.5 seasons is pretty damn good.

But than again, apparently I'm in the minority of people willing to actually say they like South Park. What is this, a Family Guy board?

I doubt it. In this modern world, they'll never run out of stupid shit to satirize. That's what they do best, take real world events that have people up in arms and make them seem dumb as fuck.

I would like to see South Park go on hiatus, actually. Comedy Central should let Trey and Matt focus on their musical and other projects for a bit. A change of scenery would be good for them. Then in a little bit, they can come back to South Park rejuvenated and with some new ideas.

south park went the way of the simpsons: its been around so long it stopped being funny. it stopped being funny about 5 years ago. end it please.
I disagree with the Simpsons comparison. South Park has gotten old, but has already gone through some major shifts in tone even if the style and themes have been quite consistent. The very fact that South Park acknowledges this, and is trying to engage even with the cynical branch of their (perhaps former) fanbase, tells me that this is a very different case and that, no matter the actual quality, this show is evidently something important to its creators.

What that last episode told me was that there is a lot of shitty stuff around, and tastes will change, hopefully for the better...but don't let the cynicism take over, don't lose all joy in life just because there is some crap around. It seemed to say that: Hey, maybe we have gone on too long now, maybe we are shit, but don't be so cynical that you'll miss out enjoying whatever is next, and better.

The Simpsons was the best show on TV, intelligent while being funny and at times geniunely heart warming...now it just tries to win back some of its audience from Family Guy, and sucks at it.

Maybe it is time for South Park to end. The show definately isn't as great as it was, but I think people are a little too harsh on it, especially in comparison to the shitty later seasons of a show like the Simpsons. Hopefully the show will end well, and not try to last forever.

I love South Park and think it's one of the most important pieces of animated satire ever made but I think it's time has come. Better than allowing it's legacy be ruined forever like The Simpsons.

My theory on the next episode(s) if they follow some kind of plot continuity and assuming this wasn't some type of elaborate dream of some kind (major trolling if it is):

If Stan is the oldest of the four main boys, it could resume where one and subsequently the rest of the boys turn 10. They soon become "cynical assholes" themselves and reunite with Stan. Once together, they conclude that there must be some kind of source of cynicism that must be stopped in order for them to enjoy things again. They find and confront the source and either defeat it and/or learn to cope with cynicism on their own. Equilibrium returns as well as the next stage in the show's evolution...or...The End.

Well, as much as it pains me to say, the end has to come some time. Matt and Trey have stated they don't want to be doing this when they're fifty, so it can't be more then a few years at best. Will these next seven episodes be a wrap-up, a change of status quo, or just business as usual? Knowing how this show's creation schedule works, I wouldn't be surprised if even the South Park staff doesn't know for sure.

I've watched seasons 1-14 and I actually prefer the mid-later seasons. I really appreciate the cleverness of the show as the seasons progressed. I also prefer the political and social commentary to the purely immature material, but somehow the mixed layers of comedy in the show has managed to keep me watching. So as long as I'm still enjoying it, I'll keep watching. If the show should end this season, it will have been 15 seasons of laughs. Can't really complain either way.

Strange, how there's no "South Park has sucked hard for the past few years, let it die" option.

Stupid fanboys.
actually, that would be the option about having a small penis.
Stupid tryhards.
No really, South Park has been in a rut for the past 5 years or so. It needs to die. If you disagree, I'll just assume that you still think The Simpsons is still good just because they still air, and the Sonic franchise isn't the laughing stock of the games industry. I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN BE IRRATIONALLY BIASED!!!
?

How about the "I like the show, you do not- I'll watch it, you don't" option?

I mean, really, can you honestly say something objectionably 'sucks'? For example, I watch Futurama but I've perhaps laughed at it half a dozen times in total for all the episodes I've watched. I still find The Simpsons and South Park funnier than Futurama, and I've only recently started re-watching South Park while I travel so I haven't got the loyalty of a 'fanboy'.

If people still enjoy it, then it'll be marketed toward those people. Saying something should end because you personally believes it sucks sounds like you're just being self-centered.

Its not wrong for shows to actually have stuff change. I liked how say, Futurama is more loose with the status quo than say, Family Guy or Simpsons.

Of course. Because obviously if someone has a different opinion than you, they don't understand.

Personally, I've seen the six earliest seasons. They were stupid. I saw the point to the ones that had a point, and it was still stupid. Some people don't enjoy crude humor because it's immature. No matter how well-written it is or what message it's a front for, it's still immature.
You just pretty much reinforced his point there, saying you don't care about the message because you can't handle the humor, good job.

Unless they actually start putting some thought into their episodes I dont think I'll mind too much. I LOVE South Park, and It's stil the best out of the 3 major cartoons (South Park, Family Guy and Simpsons), but lately its all been nothing but toilet humour, a bunch of fart and poop jokes. When done right its hilarious, done wrong it just seems childish. South Park used to be above this kind of thing, when they did do it, it was more of an ironic statement.

I'd would love it if South Park kept going, but ONLY if they make better shows. So far this entire season has been forgetable.

I dunno to be honest, I like the Show, no doubt about it, and people commenting on the series "stagnating", I simple can't see it, I watch every new episode now and days, But a few years back I only watched it "by accident" and I honestly think their new material has gotten better, much better, I don't recall that they did the same kind of metaphorical humor on many of the real world problems or situations back then, it weas more or less crude humor for the sake of crude humor.

...Except I never said that. Not even close. And that's not even his point. You just made three arguments that don't make any sense and have nothing backing them.

To clarify for the last time: I see the messages in the episodes. I understand why people enjoy the humor. But I don't enjoy it. That doesn't, in any way, affect how I see the messages in the episodes.

Now I'm done with all these people who can't handle criticism, please don't reply again.

" No matter how well-written it is or what message it's a front for, it's still immature."

Says so right there, read you own post.

You say that you understand it, but you dismiss the message because of the medium over witch it is given and the way.

You may get the message, but it still goes over your head because you apperently get distracted by the humor.

Maybe you should actually read my post. Then you would know that I was talking about the humor, not the message. Unless a message can be a front for a message.
