Poll: Spiderman VS Alex Mercer

Recently my friend asked me the question, who would win in a fight, Alex Mercer or Spiderman. No on the surface it seems like a fairly easy question; Alex Mercer can kill things by scowling angrily at them, and Spiderman has gotten beat up by an old man with metal dildo's strapped to his back.
But I found that Spiderman is a hell of a lot smarter than Alex Mercer so I thought the scenario would play out like this.

Spiderman would encounter Alex Mercer, get the shit kicked out of him and barely escape with his life, then develop a cure for the black testicle virus (or whatever) and spray him with it, turning him back into Alex Mercer! Or a corpse, whichever works better.

Also my view has actual evidence behind it (oh golly). Just look at the original comics with Spiderman vs Doctor Octopus, the Vulture and that Lizard thing.

Too start with, I dont think versus threads are allowed around here. That said, the problem with your theory is Mercer doesn't 'kick the shit' out of his enemies, he eats them. Even a marvel hero would take their time coming back from that.

My problem is bolded. Alex Mercer doesn't usually let foes escape... leaving Spider bet half dead? More like beating the bollocks out of him and then absorbing him.

Well let's look at this evidence. Alex Mercer can disguise himself as anyone he's absorbed. He can run faster than Spiderman, climb buildings faster than Spiderman and has superhuman reflexes. If all else fails and Spidey lands a few lucky punchest, devestation tentacle barrage, sure Spiderman can dodge eight metal arms, but can he dodge hundreds of lethal tentacles?

here's the thing. Even by playing Prototype for just a teensy bit, it quickly becomes clear that Alex Mercer is not a smart guy. He may have been all sciency and shit but IMHO Spiderman is smarter.
And for the "barely escapes with his life" bit, Spiderman has escaped from incredible situations before, he's actually pretty good at that.
Also for your list of powers, they don't really mean as much if Spiderman can outwit him.

I think you have this bulls*** tenticle explosion attack in prtotype that kills and absorbs everything in a 20ft radius around you, that would be hard to beat.

plus mercer has the armor upgrade that makes him near impervious to bullets (and tank shells) so I don't think spider mans punches are going to be that effective.

Spidey's got it hands down. Never played Prototype, so I am unbelievably biased here, but still. Spiderman's dealt with worse.

What I voted: Rick Mercer. Not even Spiderman can beat that.

In some respects it seems strangely appropriate given the depiction of Carnage, as a Spiderman villain staple.

That said, Carnage =/= Mercer, or rather, the Dx-1118 "Blacklight" virus and Mercer's nickname "Zeus" is not undeserved.

Like it would even matter, if Alex Mercer got him within an inch of his life, there would be no escape. Spiderman would become a part of Mr. Mercer and it would be over. Alex Mercer has already been hit with a 'cure' for Blacklight and he shrugged it right off. In his body, he has the mind of the man who created it, you can't outwit someone who already knows everything about himself and what he is. He is immune to his only weakness, Bloodtox.

How can you outwit something that is always one step ahead? I'd also like to point out, that Mercer's official bio states him as being "distant, predatory, super-intelligent, terrifying, vengeful, blank, and searching".

First you need to define the boundaries of the contest.

I'll do it for you : a tag-team wrestling match (with Spidey partnered by a Cyclops, and Mercer partnered by a Kraken). Guest refereed by Zelda from Terrahawks.

Obviously the Mercer / Kraken team would win, as they collectively have more arms, and are therefore more capable of achieving the requisite pins.

(If you're going to worry about whether two fictional characters can beat each other up, do it properly...)

Honesty, if it's a fight between two semi-emos with super powers, my money's on the on with web fluid shooting out of his wrists.

Seriously, if you know anything from the comics, a single strand of spider web is enough to hang 5 tons of weight in the air. Just imagine how much a punk like Mercer weights, maybe what? 150, 270 pounds at most when he's using his transformed states. Also remember that Spider-Man has fought inhuman psychopaths, evil scientists, armies of goons, and even GODS on special occasions. All of which could easy overpower Alex Mercer in a heartbeat.

Well if you're going to get technical, it's ZEUS. But the reason people refer to him as Mercer, is that Alex was the initial host for Blacklight. As such, ZEUS assumed his perosnality, memories and all.
