Poll: Star Wars Battlefront. You know we have to talk about it.

If it was DICE of 5 years ago I'd be real happy, now however you don't even get a fucking menu with your triple A game, not to mention anyone and everyone is banned for customizing anything in their game... fuck that shit.

And I don't even want to go into micro transactions and subscription fees.

DICE, Micro-transactions? Where's this coming from? Also the reason anyone is banned for customising anything in their games now is because most of those "customisations" are played modding the game code. I have skin mods on Battlefield 3 and I haven't been banned by DICE.

Why not wait it out and see what come of the game before condemning something you haven't played, let alone seen properly.

Yeah..pretty much saw this coming. Everyone was crying over Battlefront 3 being binned when LucasArts was closed, and then people raged that EA was given publishing rights to Star Wars games. And then there was also people saying that that six minutes of footage proved the game was 99% complete (If it was, it looked friggin' horrendous, and I'm glad it was killed).

And when I heard EA had gotten ahold of publishing rights, I knew they were going to make a third one. I assumed it would be DICE, since they're EA's flagship multiplayer developer, and that's what Battlefront has focused on. I also wouldn't be surprised if, eventually, we get either KOTOR 3, or another similar Star Wars game developed by Bioware.

It hasn't been announced on PC, so I have no interest in it and will have none until it's been announced on PC.

Also...expect Day One DLC, online passes, pay2win weapons, a levelling system...maybe even pay2win unlocking classes and vehicles...because it's EA.

To be honest, the PC versions of the original Battlefronts paled in comparison to the console versions, in my opinion, because the controls felt smoother with a controller.

Consoles version had smaller battles with less players per side, not moddable, and shooters are generally much easier to play on PCs because of the mouse and keyboard setup.

Depends on the player... My friends like you, can't use a controller to save his life. Where as I'm the same but with a mouse.

He has THE FORCE! Quick, someone get him to a jedi or sith temple before he has an independent thought like they do with every other force child in the franchise!

OT: I will reserve my judgment for when I see actual gameplay. The trailer looks like some computer animator took a 5 minute lunch break to do it and then went back to the grind.

That being said, I'm hopeful. DICE may be being forced to make battlefield sequels, but they also helped out with the NFS hot pursuit and most wanted reboots, and they made mirrors edge, which EA is giving a chance at sequel, by the way.

EA may have dug a big grave, but they might be digging out of it. We'll see.

Is it too much fucking effort to put a damn 3 on the end of the title though? It's like every game title maker is out to fuck with my youtube search results.

Don't get me wrong, BF1 was great and BF2 was a lot of fun. But EA.......

I suppose it's nice that they said they're done with the Online Passes, so who knows? Maybe they're actually ready to try and turn over a new leaf...or maybe they'll be the same scum-sucking assholes that they've always been. That said, I'll go with the "I'll wait to see some actual gameplay" vote.

This is how I feel about the battlefront release. The gaming industry is very different and have very different standards since the last battlefront game was release. I expect to see lots of grey and brown. :/

On the other...EA is publishing it. Worse, the developers of Medal of Honor: Warfighter are the ones developing it, after their studio was re-branded as DICE's LA branch.

We'll have to see. It could go in several very separate directions.

I am hella excited to seem some more stuff about. DICE makes good shooters in my opinion so hopefully it will be good.

It's fine. Dice made Mirror's Edge after all, so it's not like all they know how to do is Battlefield n. And it's not like they have to water it down to appeal to any stupid made up needs because they know a rehash will sell well (I hope). So we're left with what is at least a semi-competent developper which only has to adapt existing mechanics for a sequel. Easier than the Kessel Run.

So this is how I stand. I want to play Star Wars Battlefront 3. SWB 1 and 2 were some of my favourite all time games and I'd love to play more of them.

But I really don't think it's likely that Star Wars Battlefront will be SWB3. I can't see that happening at all, I suspect the orders from EA were 'Make Battlefield with Star Wars' and that's what we're going to get.

It doesn't mean it's going to be bad! But it does mean it's going to be Battlefield. You've got to think really hard about what you want when you say 'I want Star Wars Battlefront' do you want the gameplay? Do you want the tone? Do you want the names? Because we're not going to get the gameplay, that's just not going to happen. If you care most of all about the gameplay, then this announcement should be most exciting to the people who are asking to play Battlefield 3.5, because thats what the gameplay will be. If you want the setting it could go either way, personally I think The Old Republic and The Force Unleashed were pretty bad at conveying setting, because they hadn't been designed from the ground up to make the gameplay reflect Star Wars, and I think that will happen here. It's going to be an enjoyable Battlefield with Star Wars names and most of you will enjoy that. But that's not what I want, I want Star Wars Battlefront 3.



Now I could be wrong, DICE are talented developer and maybe they'll buck the EA trend and not go for the safe easy option. But I would rather be surprised by having the game turn out to be good when I didn't believe it would be, than to go in expecting SWB3 and be disappointed again.

Whoops it turns out I was actually being way too optimstic. Guys destroy your expectations, EA isn't even feeling energetic enough to give us a Star Wars branded Battlefield clone

I don't fear DICE because there hasn't been much released to base an opinion on. I fear EA, and their famous server reliability and not finding a reason to ever fix it when they already have the game sold.

I'm still getting it. Probably.

OT; loved Battlefront I & II but I always found myself making it harder on myself - almost any game I play nowadays I try to up the difficulty to M&B levels. I'd play the galactic conquest campaigns but force myself to use a single spawn per battle ... made me duck when people shot at me, and would make me RUN when I saw Vader coming my way.

Eh yeah it'll probably be good, but I'd still rather have Republic Commando 2. I actually didn't like most of the improvements in Battlefront 2, the space battles were cool & some of the new maps were good, but all the power ups & shit were kinda annoying to me & the upgraded sniper rifle never worked right which really pissed me off when I wanted to camp.

I have mixed feelings, I'm a huge fan of the Star Wars Battlefront series but I hate the Battlefield series. Hopefully they don't try and make it Battlefield with a Star Wars skin.

Battlefield with a Star Wars skin. Honestly, if they do it WELL, I don't see the issue. And they did do it well, twice.

Except it wasn't... At least that's not how it ended up, it may have started like that but it didn't end up like that.

I have played battlefield and I have played battlefront. They are very different and Battlefield has never sucked me in like Battlefront.

It's DICE, all their games are made for PC... except Bad Company 1.

OP: Being a multiplayer gamer to an extent, I'm confident that DICE know what they're doing when it comes to combined arms combat, which is everything Battlefront was about. Just don't make it first person.
