Poll: Star Wars or Star trek?

Star Trek.

It's more of better stuff. With Star Wars, you got three good movies. With Star Trek, you got nine good movies, and five good series.

Star Trek can really make you think, and opens itself up for lots of interesting possibilities. Star Wars had cool stuff, and good use of the Hero's Journey, but not much thought provokedness.

Anyway, Star Wars has had more high-quality games about it. What does Star Trek have? Starfleet Command 1-3, Voyager: Elite Force, Birth of the Federation, Armada, and (to a lesser extent) Online?

Star Wars, meanwhile, has Knights of the Old Republic, Dark Forces/Jedi Knight/Jedi Academy, Battlefront, Episode I: Racer, Rogue Squadron, TIE Fighter/X-Wing, Bounty Hunter, Republic Commando, The Force Unleashed (well, I thought the gameplay helped make up for the terrible story, at least), Lego, Jedi Power Battles (though it had really frustrating platforming...), Episode I on PC, Episode III, and Empire at War.

That being said, I get more enjoyment out of watching TOS, TNG, and DS9 than I do out of watching the Star Wars films.

For sheer hours of entertainment I have to go with Star Trek, though I do like both franchises a lot. Like others have said it really is apples to oranges since the 2 are so different...it's only because they have such large fanbases and the word Star in the name that brings any need to compare them...may as well add Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, etc into the mix

I prefer Star Wars, but I like them both quite a bit.
Although, Star Trek has a lot of meh, like Voyager and Enterprise, the big series, TOS, TNG and DS9, are pretty cool.

Star Wars by a long shot (no offence to the Trek, like it too). All six Star Wars. ALL SIX. Not only that, SW also has such a rich expanded universe it's mind boggling.

Star Trek! The major aspect of every premier Star Fleet Captain is to try and find a peaceful solution... with that being said don't cross any of them... their plan B will F you up.

The message of Star Trek is one that I think everyone should at some point watch and enjoy. It is about the betterment of us as a people. It is not about personal gain or glory but about what we can do if we all work together and work to help others. It is about integrity. Yes, at times it can be a bit over the top and really try hitting you across the head with the theme but it is still good to be exposed to the themes Star Trek portrays. I think this message is a bit lost on the newer movies for the record.

Now, the original Star Wars movies (4-6) were a work of art all onto themselves. They were entertaining and I loved them when I was a kid (I loved Star Trek just as much then too). I found the overall theme of fighting oppression and fighting for what was right was a good message as well, but in the end looking back at it now, I find myself siding with Star Trek because some of the ideas are far more complex and really challenge me to be a better person. Also movies 1-3 of Star Wars were complete rubbish... they fell into the prequel trap of not giving us any new insight into the character's stories but rather telling us the general story of the fall of Anikan Skywalker to the dark side... which we all knew already.

For funnies here is the cop-out arugment... they are different mediums and that dictates how their producers approached them. Star Trek was designed for TV (before TV shows were a giant movie... see Battlestar or Game of Thrones) so Star Trek needed more stand alone episodes. Star Wars was designed as movies so it could tell a more continuous story. It was not till more recently that TV could do this as well... if not a better job at it.

Well I just finished watching all six Star Wars films for the first time over the past week and enjoyed all of them with the exception of the first. The third, fifth and sixth were probably my favourites, followed by the second. I have never really seen Star Trek though, mostly because TV series don't interest me. Are the films any good?

As much as I adore Star Wars, it's got to be Trek, because of 'In The Pale Moonlight'. Fantastic episode.

I say Star Wars because I know a thing or two about Star Wars. I've got nothing against Star Trek and I know more or less what it is about, but not as much as Star Wars.

Where is the answer for "both", excluding Voy and SW1-3, neither of which happened and both of which were bad dreams.

They are totally different beasts and not really comparable.

So ENTERPRISE still exists!?! D:

OT: Both had good points, both have bad, it makes it very hard to say. If we go by a pure "gold to crap" ratio, Star Trek wins out, since 2 of the 5 main Star Trek television shows sucked (I haven't seen the animated series, so I cannot say) but 3 of the 6 Star Wars movies sucked (I am not counting the Clone Wars film to balance out the lack of the cartoon).

Easy answer is that they both had their strengths and weaknesses. Each was intended to tell different types of stories. Comparing them is like comparing blasters to phasers. Er., I mean apples to oranges.

Besides . . . . BABYLON 5! mwahahahahaha The best of them all!

For the record, I've enjoyed both, but I have to say that Star Trek really fared poorly when it went into films. The only good ones in my book are Wrath of Khan and First Contact. The rest were basic drivel.

That having been said, Star Wars fared poorly when it tried to become a television show. So in the end, they stay fairly even in their own ways.

I enjoy both (hell, look at my badges). Star Trek was fun, but very hit-and-miss for me. Star Wars was just an amazing space adventure. Too bad they only ever made 3 films.

I prefer the Star Wars universe, but that's because I tend to find diplomacy boring. I still like Star Trek, though. Jean-Luc is one of my childhood heroes, just not quite on the level of Luke.

I never cared much for Star Wars. I don't hate it or anything, I just never find it very interesting. I loved the space ships, though.

Star Trek, the original series at least, is a ton of fun. Anyone who calls it boring hasn't seen it right. One example: take a good look at Dr McCoy whenever he is in the background of a scene. He looks completely baffled and stoned most of the time! ^^

My favourite Science Fiction show has to be the Prisoner. Great show, what a mindscrew that was.

And I have to mention Red Dwarf: It's a Brit-Com in SPAAAACE. If you loved the Hitch-hikers to the galaxy, this will fit right up your alley.

Star Wars. I can watch that over and over and over again. But every time I have tried to watch Star Trek.....I dont know, its just never clicked with me.

I have always preferred Star Trek. For some reason is just resonates with me. It all started with The Next Generation, and it cascaded with there. I'm currently attempting to collect all of TNG, Voyager, and DS9 on DVD.

However, I like to forget that Enterprise existed. It is an abomination, and I will never consider it canon.

Really need a "both" option, but if I had to pick one I would say Star Trek. Main reason is that I enjoy 90% of all things Star Trek, while I enjoy less than 50% of all things Star Wars. Namely I enjoy the original trilogy and nothing else.
