Damn... I like both of those but I guess I like cyberpunk a bit more. It all depends on my mood.

Steam punk. There's something about overcomplicated arrays of cogs and pipes that really appeals to me on the asthetic level. Plus, many things designed with steampunk are made to look... pretty. As if technology is treated like an art. I don't know if I can explain it right.
Absolutely agree with you. Steampunk has a certain intricacy, an art to it which is simply beautiful. Much better than circuitboards and steel plating.

That's not to say that cyberpunk is bad. Deus Ex and System Shock are two of the best games out. Steampunk as a setting just happens to tickle my fancy more.

Magnificent :D

I bought a massive compilation of shorts off Amazon just for this one; also I hear there's supposed to be more? OR more being made? Or something.

One can only hope!

Argh... tough call. I like both a lot.

Still, if I have to boil it down, I'd go Steampunk (no pun intended).

I like diselpunk, or steampunk with out the steam.

I also like cyberpunk, but it doesn't appeal to me as much as a well executed clockpunk world (and not that hipster crap you see all over the internet.)

I'm not sure I understand the point about Steampunk being better because we are close to Cyberpunk now, we definately are not and Steampunk is basically the Industrial age only with a little better inventions so I really don't get the point. I also agree with the other person above in thinking that Star Trek is most certainly not Cyberpunk.

Is cyber punk just scifi. What are some recent games that are cyber punk so that I know what you're talking about before I vote.

This movie is awesome. I hope the sequels on the website are real and not just an elaborate hoax.
Any who, my personal "Punk" of choice is Biopunk. But for the confines of this thread I'll choose Steampunk. Cyberpunk is a cool read but Steampunk is just a cool idea and something you can make in your home if your patient enough.

I love girl genius, I love Cyberpunk...
Cyberpunk is a lot harder to dress in,
At the moment you can be a steampunk, but technology does not allow for cyberpunk
Dieselpunk is annoying
Can't Decide!

On another note, why is everyone saying cyberpunk is now?
I don't see any megacorparations (not big, mega) chocking the worlds individuality
I don't see any fully mechanical limbs more efficient than normal limbs
I don't see any radioactive wastelands brought upon by nuclear war
And AI is not within immediate scientific discovery

Where do you get your definition of cyberpunk from?
Because you seem to have lost the "dark" part of "The role playing game of the dark future"
And we have not currently reached a level of technological advancement anywhere near that which defines cyberpunk

Steampunk

As the chances of gentlemen in top hats and monocles piloting steam powered death machines are exponentionaly higher there then in Cyberpunk

I like both when done well, but Steampunk wins easily for me. Maybe because even if they stuff it up it's at the very least still pretty to look at.

Also Cyberpunk more often than not also means dystopian, and I'm sick to death of dystopian.

I'm a massive Isaac Asimov fan, so I guess Cyberpunk. But Bioshock was brilliant so Steampunk too I suppose. But Cyberpunk makes me think of a future where everyone had a slightest sense of logic when constructing their technology, as apposed to just giving up and saying, "the hell, Steam will do, no need for PROGRESS now, is there lads?"
