Poll: Steampunk Vs Cyberpunk

Much of Warhammer 40k is Steampunk, so is Bioshock so, yeah SteamPunk

Wait... What? Parts of Warhammer Fantasy is Steampunk, the Empire and Dwarfs at least, but 40K? No, no, it's not. If anything, it's Cyberpunk. Calling Bioshock steampunk is also a stretch, no matter how much people keep it up.

Actually, while some of the art of Bioshock certainly is inspired by steampunk, the overall feel, and the scenario and setting is much closer to classic cyberpunk.

I'll go with cyberpunk just because I would turn all of humanity into the Borg if I could... self included. I definately wouldn't want to lead them but it would be an upgrade in intelligence, efficiency and race relations. Thus putting humanity exactly where it thinks it wants to be... world peace.

Plus the use of brass and wood reminds me of WH40K.

Steampunk, definitely.
I'm totally into the old books from Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Arthuer Conan Doyle and so on...
Electricity = Magic.
Also, Cyberpunk is pretty much always the same dark, gritty, depressing future, it's basically more of the same we already have today. I prefer the light-hearted optimism of the explorers from Steampunk.

My first, and so far only exposure to cyberpunk was the half life 2 mod dystopia. it is glorious.

Steampunk certainly has a lot of... bronze, though... if you're, y'know... into bronze.

Never really liked steampunk for some reason...what? It's like, in the past, but they've got all this wierd technology? Madness!

Much prefer Cyberpunk. I find it comparatively easy to relate to. It's like today but with more cool toys. SPARTAAAAA!

My bad, yeah Fantasy, I wasn't thinking straight, also Bioshock is steampunk, look at the big daddy for example.

Not really, steampunk is set in the 19th century, or at least with technology of that era. Bioshock is set in the 1960's, and Rapture is from the 1940's-50's. It's too advanced to be steampunk, you can see some influences (especially with the weapon modding) but overal, not really. It's more art deco, more The World of Tommorow (Goes Dystopia, in this case).

Anyway, for me 100% steampunk. The world and era is so much more vibrant, the aesthetic of all that brass and heavy equipment. The dawn of modern science, all the exploration and experimenting. It's a crazy ass era, fantastic. Plus sci fi designs with Victorian age technology, yay for steam mecha's!

Anyway I can't decide, I'd normaly pick Cyberpunk but I'm reading a Steampunk book right now and it is good beyond words.

Cyberpunk is getting too similar to real life (although it's still quite far off for the time being). Steampunk however is always getting further from real life as technology advances.

Ergo, Steampunk is more fantastical and therefore better.
