Steampunk. On the whole. It just seems more..tangible, somehow.
Plus..it mixes technology with Wodehouse, sort of. And that=win.

Cyberpunk deals with problems that will probably occur in the future so it gets my vote. Bladerunner and Snatcher are just far too awesome :/ even though the steampunk style is great, cyberpunk got more substance in my eyes.

Steampunk due to Bioshock Art Deco and Fallout 3's Rayguns and Crooners.

Steampunk: The Past and the Present Fantastanomically Combined

Cyberpunk: Usually far fetched stuff about pills instead of food and moody trenchcoated people.

Needs more "Both" option.

Steampunk is things you wouldn't think possible whilst Cyberpunk is things you think we haven't gotten to, yet.

Steampunk
All the guys had cool moustaches and really impressive accents. I shay, my boy. Plus shining metal is better than blinking lights on plastic. Although Sanctuary Fortress in MP2 was pretty cool

Steampunk:
Lost Odyssey
Bioshock
THIEF!
To be accurate though, the thief series had magic as well
So did Arcanum, which is generally seen as one of the best steampunk games out there. (Bioshock still isn't one.)

Actually, while some of the art of Bioshock certainly is inspired by steampunk, the overall feel, and the scenario and setting is much closer to classic cyberpunk.
Its more dieselpunk, the deco style leans in the steam direction but is definitely diesel
Which is derived from and borrows heavily from the themes of cyberpunk. I'd say cyberpunk works adequately to describe it, getting narrower and narrower genres doesn't really help much when not talking to real fanatics.

Personally I like the look of steampunk over that of cyberpunk. Both are equally awesome, its just that steampunk created things tend to look cooler.

Nothing wrong with it, exactly, when dealing with other fanatics :p I mean, I'm pretty obsessive concerning some of these things as well. The trouble is that it makes it even more of an unaccesible niche for the rest of the world. It closes off the hobby/genre/whatever to outsiders, and thus causing it to become stagnant.

Increased popularity is a good thing, and with fresh blood comes fresh ideas, and new directions, opening up things a bit and not narrowing things down with obscure terms helps facilitate growth of the genre, which benefits both other people who get to enjoy the genius of our favorite pasttimes and us, with more people interested, more work is poured into it, causing more games, movies and literature pertaining to our favorite subject to be released.

(Yes, I overanalyze things.)
