You make a good point, but I will remind you that the internet is still in its infancy. The fact that something like SOPA almost happened is evidence of that. People still don't understand its place in society.
Yes. You're right. It's still very early on.

However, I must point out that television and film are anything but in their infancy. And, while we do occasionally get something brilliant, look at the sheer level of muck we have to wade and filter through to find any of it.

I'm just saying, history has shown that when something is "opened to the masses", more often then not it's at that point that that "something" begins it's decline.

God...that makes me sound like SUCH a hipster. I'm not, I swear!

I do have hope that that's not the case.

Oh shut up. Seriously. Shut it. You complaining that everyone is sad is just as bad as complaining that everyone is too happy and blithely oblivious, and is also just as bad as complaining about how awful things are. Different people view the world in different ways, and some of those people view the world as a terrible, terrible place. If you don't like it, let them be miserable in their own way, don't put them down for it.

It's always other people that make me sad yet if I seclude myself I feel lonely and depressed.

SCUMBAG EMOTIONS.

-.-

My best friend cheered me up after a row I had with someone by saying 'I've noticed that it's always intelligent people who like you.' I love my best friend.

Seriously though I have been diagnosed with anxiety, depression and PTSD by a psychiatrist so I have legit issues. I try not to inflict it on other people too much though and go and watch things like this.

(If the bronies haven't cottoned onto this yet I would be very surprised...)
I'm not sure if I should be slamming my face into my desk at how bad that looks...or laughing hysterically at how deliciously bad that looks.

I'm so torn. It's like if MLP and Buck Rogers had an elicit love affair, and birthed that show.
It's a parody of 80's kids shows so it's okay to feel conflicted. :p A lot of people asking for it to be an actual thing though. Let's hope Adult Swim pick it up for extra lulz. xD

I'm an incredibly cynical person, yet I manage to enjoy life. I complain, *****, and moan about many inconsequential things but then I move on. Perhaps it is because I enjoy the little things that people take for granted. I end up smiling because somebody held a door for me. A wonderfully bad pun can make my evening.
True, I lean toward the "we live in a shitty world" side, but there are still those gems worth finding. That bright spot is all I need to keep going.
Life is about more than the terrible things going on in the world. It's just easier to look at the surface. Yes, the media is inundated with rape, murder, embezzling, kidnapping, and minor larceny. But is that much different than in the past? There is just better coverage now. Despite all the crap in the world, we're still here. We've made it through wars, revolutions, crusades, plagues, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, fires. And yet there is still the simple pleasure of posting on an internet forum (or ranting on said forum if that's what suits you).
It just takes a little effort to find the good in life.

There's a high possibility that I'll be getting laid tomorrow night, currently sat down with tea in the oven, my brothers out for the weekend so house empty, just me, some burgers, Skyrim and the internet... Mate, I'm as happy as a pig in shit.

You make it sound so easy

Seriously though. A little complaining doesn't make you miserable. We're not built to be at peace and content with ourselves all the time. Stuff is going to annoy people, stuff is going to make people feel bad, sometimes small, insignificant things, sometimes huge freaking deals. That's just the way it's gonna be, it doesn't make much sense but we'll probably go crazy if we try to deny it.

Anyway, I'm not much of a reader. Been toying with the idea of picking up that fancy fantasy book that HBO made a fancy fantasy TV-series of. Can anyone recommend it?
Yep, go read it, it kicks ass.

As for myself, I'm slightly drunk. Does that count as happy? It seems better than NOT being slightly drunk, so that's good. I mean, it could be worse.

But seriously, people are never just gonna be happy. See Maslow's Pyramid:

Wealth can only help with the first two layers of that. The rest is up to you.

I sort-of stopped caring about the world and only worry if my way of life is somehow threatened (IE SOPA killing the internet)
for the rest I can't care less about stuff like Africa or charity.
I mostly do whatever the hell I want in the confines of the law.
PS
I liked idiocracy but it exaggerated the world,s problems.

Look buddy, while I agree that some people are mopey for the sake of it, a lot of people do have real issues with their lives. You don't know what a lot of people are going through so before you tell them to 'shut up and be happy!' try to empathize a little and consider that possibly they are going through something unpleasant. For example, I recently had a falling out with an ex-girlfriend with whom I was trying to stay friends, and for a while, I was bloody miserable. I tried putting on a strong face, what with the holidays and all that going on, but even then people knew something was up with me. It has gotten easier but it still hurts, at some times more than others. So before you say "Quitcherbitchin!" try to consider what they may be going through.
That being said though, I can be a bit of a pessimist at the best of times, but typically I turn it into a dark and somewhat biting sense of humor rather than just mindless complaining. This doesn't appeal to everybody of course, as people seem to either get my sense of humor and love me for it or not get it and think I'm an asshole, but I'm not aiming to please everyone.

But I digress, Books I like:
I absolutely adore Yahtzee's book Mogworld. The humor is great and the characters were really well fleshed out (which is a little ironic, since quite a few of them were zombies).

Part of me actually hopes Adult Swim does. I could do with some campy, goofy parody.

I'm in a relationship but I love another woman who friendzone'd me while the woman I'm with I know loves me, and I'm to cowardly to do anything.

What do you think I answered?

"Idiocracy is overrated"

Anyways, everyone has times of inexplicable misery. I tend to avoid the internet during those times, as the internet is depressing enough, and I say many derptastic things. :p

Ever-miserable people are grating though, yes. They should do what I do when I'm down, listen to Aphex Twin.

I totally get what you are saying and it will certainly slow the process down, but the fact is we ARE making progress in those areas... albeit extremely slow. To simplify my point of view: eventually things will get to where people today could say, "We did it! We saved the world!" However the people of that age will just be echoing the complaints we have now. The world being shit is a relative concept I believe :D
Well... okay

Having fun is kind of my mission in life. I mean, I really like people and I want to help them and everything, but I really like having fun while I do it. I have solo dance parties in my office all the time. I love theatre and I involve myself in it as much as possible. And hell, you want to talk about flouting society and doing what I want? I WATCH GLEE.

Also, as for books, I read everything. Seriously. I'll take cereal boxes. Right now I'm reading "Reality is Broken" by Jane McGonigle and "A Dance With Dragons" by GRRM. My favorite books ever are probably "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton, "The Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing" by Melissa Banks, "A Separate Peace" by John Knowles and just about anything by Meg Cabot or Tamora Pierce (just her Tortall books, though. I never got into Circle of Magic).
