This is assuming my metalurgical theories on armor are correct

I vote other, for BOTH. depends on situation. when you have no ammo left do you A: hit things with your gun. or B: pull out a sword and start doing some creative deconstructive surgery on your foes with it... i go with B, same reason i go with option C: always carry enough ammunition to kill a town anyway so no worries there.

also range is an issue, at a longer range a melee weapon is all but a hinderance to you, use a gun, at say 3 feet or closer you're better off with a sword than a rifle, so carry a sword or a big knife, or equip a bayonet or something... save your ass it will.

I had a sketch of something that functioned like a polearm with a railgun attached to it. The idea was that it 1-uped any energy weapons, because you can't block five pounds of iron screaming at you at mach 3 by throwing up an energy barrier.

...I just went way off track. Anyway, I'm more of a spear person, so I could go either way with swords and guns, depending on how I want to play. If I want a bruiser, I go with swords. If I want a stealth character, guns/swords are the way to go.

Which has already been said about a dozen times, but you asked, so whatever.

'pologies.

I choose other due to me having played Gunz, it uses both guns and swords and it is awesome.
True, until the script kiddies came along, deleting characters en masse, or essentially exhaling rockets with God mode on. D-Style for the proverbial win, though.
Well not to sound elitist I wouldn't ever get another TES game for a console after using the PC version. The console version in this case are truly inferior even you want to use a controller you could just buy one the amount of free content through mods is amazing.

What good does a normal gun do against a freaking Sniper from that range?
And the other way around;
What good does a sniper if the guy with the sword is behind him?

A rifle IS the easiest thing in the world to use.
Just point, aim and fire. Even a five year old kid can blow anyones brains out with it.
What you're describing isn't how you use a rifle, it's how you fix it when it 'breaks down'.

A five year old kid cannot really use a sword at all, except for the classical run straight forward and attempt to stab only for the swords weight to fall down and hit the ground instead.
Point and shoot?Yeah, that's the gist of it,the same way you just have whack someone with a sword.
In reality, you have to calibrate the scope when installing it,clean it on a regular basis, know how to control your breathing for the best accuracy, and sometimes, you even have to make up for optical "illusions" such as blurriness of the air and mirages if the day is hot.Even the reflex to count about how many rounds you fired and conserving ammo doesn't come naturally.
Sure you can give a 5 year old a gun and tell him the pull the trigger, but that doesn't make him a good gun wielder the same way a 5 year old with a sword whacking mindlessly isn't a good fencer.

As for the swordsman behind the sniper(which has only his rifle,no other weapon)? He has an expensive makeshift club.No perfect, but it's still something. If he's feeling lucky,he can even just turn around and just fire point blank.

Though guns are better in a fight (so the real life vote goes to that), sword play can work in many different ways. There's only so many ways you can shoot someone, but many ways to sword at them. But since you can't yet do proper swordplay in games, they don't get a pass for this.

Definately gunblades. Definately.

EDIT: After having seen cyrogeist's avatar, it reminded me of a Prinny sword (aerial shooting slashes!)

Both, because gun-swords are both stylish and professional.

OT: I prefer to go with melee when I can because it's more exciting, but there's also joy to be had with picking off enemies from a distance with a sniper rifle.

I like daggers, and knives (and fist weapons if the game has them, though they rarely do). I like the stealthy approach.

Pretty much these three.

I like my sniper rifles, and one day when I leave Aus I may just be able to hold a real one. Cause you know, 3km bullseys are just awesome. Swords and knives though.. They're quiet up close and you can look waaaaaaay cooler with a sword.

So I can haz both? :D

Guns, if I have to kill somebody I don't want to hear or see them die if I can help it.
I'm the opposite, if I _have_ to kill someone, I'd rather make it worth it. No wimpy spray from range with an ak. :p
