Yes, but only if they're designed as proper replacements, like Chemicalalia of Deviantart is doing, not just sexed up babe versions.

Seriously, has anyone else seen her female medic? It looks like an honest to god replacement from Valve.

Also her female Heavy and Spy are fantastic.

i have only had TF2 for a brief period 2 months at the most and im a Free to player. but i thought that having Female's would have been a really good idea to have in a game and would have personally been on my list of things to Add to TF2.

if they did add Girls then there are more characters instead of the same people running around with a Top hat and stuff. they wouldn't even need to change any hats. even if you type Girl's in TF2 lots of photos and drawing of it pop up.

So alot of people are after it, but i want the Escapist's opinion here. Do we need girls in TF2?

please Explain your answer
*Sigh*

If I had a dollar every time someone made "gender bend" fanart of TF2 and completely miss the point of the game's distinctive visuals, I'd never have to work a day in my life.

No, TF2 should not get female counterparts for the following reasons:

1. As many others have mentioned, it would wreak havoc with the whole "easily distinguishable class silhouette" mechanic (and no, hats haven't destroyed this aspect of the game's visuals).

2. The game takes place in the 1960's, an era where it was not acceptable for women to be in combat.

3. There would be a huge upsurge in misogynistic "GET BACK IN THE KITCHEN" comments by the resident douchebags of the community.

4. It would cause a firestorm of controversy if militant feminists caught wind of it. Not only would the female characters likely have the same psychological neuroses and psychoses of their male counterparts, but you could also stab them, shoot them and blow them to smithereens?

5. There is a fair portion of female players that think certain classes are hot. Who are we to deny them their eye candy?

6. Has everyone forgotten Helen the Administrator? She calls the shots, after all:

If folks want to download model replacements like the ones Chemical Alia makes (which are very well done incidentally) for their own use, then that's fine. Just don't make it mandatory for the rest of us.

There's just no point at all. The characters wouldn't play any different (if they did, it would be difficult to balance what would amount to 9 new classes, so that's definitely out).

If the hitboxes were even slightly different, hardcore players would only choose the variant with the smaller hitbox, so 9 models would go unused anyway.

Valve doesn't care that teenage boys want to ogle women in every game. They want to make a quality product.

To be honest, it depends on how you look at it. Seeing as this isn't a TPS if you're a man as a woman there is NO excuse, but I know a couple girls who play TF2 and most have the scout female mod. So for the few classes that make sense, sure thing.

Didn't you know the pyro may or may not be a girl?

There are rumours abound that Pyro is a female... :p
Recently I ran across this piece of concept art that is apparently the Pyro's real face.

And this.

So...nope.avi

Anyway, your reasoning on having girls would actually be more complicated. You'd have to model nine new models, give them each a personality and voice actress, make custom hats that would fit the models, program and animate all the animations, plus possible jiggle-boning or breast physics, and then give them all proportionally fitting items.

I feel like it just wouldn't be needed. Leave it up to the dedicated modding community and fanatics who seem to be dedicated to the idea that the pyro is secretly a busty chick, despite the male voice...

I ain't care.

No, I think it's part of the aestetics and charm of the game; a bunch of sad guys who don't know what else to do but brawl it out and fawning over the calendar ladies. Also, there's the problem with hitboxes. Personally, I wouldn't like it if they also copied the male characters i.e. have the same nationality, accents, personality and so on.

I do think a lot more FPSs should have female characters, but TF2 isn't one of them.

There are mods that allow you to play as Female skins of some of the classes:

Well if you did the VA for the spy one I refer to (wears a burka, french accent) then that question is answered already.
DustyOldRoses provided the voice acting, I made the model itself. But yeah, that's the one.

I would like to see it but realistically it probably won't happen, being as it would take a lot of work to make all the female models work with the same animations/weapons/hitboxes

Why does it matter? I understand you want some variety but do virtual vaginas help you sleep at night or something? Not to sound prude, but...

The game is fine as is. Plus, isn't there already a female version of scout?

It's about as practical as wearing a fancy suit to fight a battle. TF2 has the campiness of a 60's spy/sci-fi movie, and I feel that each class needs to be treated accordingly.

Valve went out and said, straight out, that the pyro is definitely not female.

So yeah, its a guy.

In other news, nah, I dont think girls would work in TF2. They just WOULDNT. If you want me to give a reason, I may as well point out that its set in the 50's/60's and all the women were housewives :p
Just out of curiosity, do you remember where Valve said that? I'm in the male pyro camp (sounds like a guy, has the shape of a guy and the concept art shows his face. Not to mention sharing a locker room with other men. Get over your wishful thinking.) I would like to hear confirmation right from Valve if you have a link though.

It's certainly an idea, but you have to remember that if it were instituted, the pervs on DeviantArt would take advantage of the new plethora of breasts. Heck, the existence of that picture means they're already theorizing about it. Imagine what it'd be like if there actually were women in TF2?

That said, I endorse the idea.
I'm guessing your picture is the seal of approval?
Oh ho, we have a sharp one here.
It's been eight months since I joined and you're the first to spot it. Congratulations, good sir.

Like probably half the people. What's the point? It's something they may have considered but never went through. Plus each and every character is unique in personality which make the character way more likeable. Female characters would be a nice vanity but not really something anybody should waste there time on. This also means I don't like the hats.
