Which series do you prefer and why? For me personally it's TES, because the world is more immersive and not depressing and the colours are bright, the world is more detailed and I prefer fantasy to sci-fi.

When it comes to game settings, I prefer post-apocalyptia to fantasy. I've always been a fan of games that make me feel like the very world is trying to kill me.

I like Fallout. But this is an unfair comparison. Fallout 3 is a much different kind of game than it's predecessors.

I prefer sci-fi to fantasy, and the combat is much better with guns than swords. Plus I just kinda like the universe better.

More of a fan of the old-school Fallout's as far as RPG's go, but comparing Fallout 3/New Vegas to TES as a whole, I'd say Fallout by far. I just really dislike TES's leveling system, it's really broken. Morrowind was a good game despite that, but Oblivion wasn't fun for me. At all.

Fallout 3/New Vegas are at the very least mechanically sound. (Not saying that aren't some serious gamebreakers, especially in 3)

Not to mention the combat in Morrowind and Oblivion is total arse, compared to Fallout 3/New Veags's meh to decent combat.

Fallout all the way for me, i like the Post-Apocalyptic scenery, it feels more like you're exploring a strange land.
Plus, it has guns. I've never been the biggest fan of hand to hand combat, much prefer capping headpieces from a distance with a sniper rifle.

Jeez, it's a really hard choice for for me, but I'd say The Elder Scrolls is slightly better because I really like the setting.

You may as well ask "Do you prefer post apocalyptic sci-fi or high fantasy?" since the two universes aren't really comparable in the same way as say, Tolkien and WarCraft, or Warhammer 40k and StarCraft.

I expect the majority of responses will be talking about Oblivion (with a few references to Morrowind and even fewer to Daggerfall/Arena) and Fallout 3/New Vegas (with a few references to Fallout 1+2 and even fewer to the non-numbered Fallout games) as opposed to commentaries on the universes as a whole as representatives of their chosen genre.

For the record, from what little of Fallout 1+2 I've played (I REALLY need to get round to those) and the playthroughs of 3, New Vegas, Morrowind, Oblivion and a teensy bit of Daggerfall? I prefer Fallout. It sticks out to me as something different. There's a lot of high-fantasy universes - a lot of them done well, but there are precious few good post apocalyptic universes (not games, universes) that are in depth and truly interesting to read about.

However, I freely admit on both counts that my view is based on incomplete information.

I don't recall any gamebreakers in Fallout 3. What do you mean?

OT: Fallout, I don't like the combat in TES. The first person perspective is not well suited to melee combat IMO. Yeah you can switch to third person but the feel is still the same.

I choose Fallout, but I'd like to throw in a half assed argument. the backstory to the entire Fallout series are giant, and only but a fraction is shown to the casual gamer when playing the games.

Also, I can't find any other game that come atleast close to Morrowinds grey and gloomy areas, so calling fallout out on depressive colours when you look at games like morrowind, seems a bit backwards.

But it all comes down to personal opinion, I find fallout much more immesive, but then again I did my homework and have read a few books concerning the universe, while I can barely be arsed to read my main quest in oblivion.

I was sort of expecting this, but I've never understood why people like Fallout...I mean it was decent, but not immersive and had depressing radio music and sound effects that made me want to kill myself. But I guess if you asked WoW fans it would probably be TES and if you asked Star Wars fans it would be Fallout.

TES is first. I played Arena at a cousins house, got Daggerfall for myself and have loved it since. I'm a big Fallout fan, but TES has been with me since 95. I have no preference in the settings. I appreciate them on their own merit. So glad it's only a little over 24hrs to Skyrim.

I get tired of all the gray, brown, with misshapen metal that I see in the Fallout series. I much prefer more color and something that doesn't look like 1945 Hiroshima.

Pretty much every DLC weapon and armor. The Stealth Suit makes the whole stealth boy mechanic of the game pointless, with a silenced weapon you can pretty much sneak attack crit anything in the game. Winterized Power Armor was indestructible (Never decayed) and absorbed a ton of damage, making pretty much every other armor in the game redundant. Gauss Rifle did a ton of damage, and only costed 1 MF Cell per shot.

That was just from Operation Anchorage alone, even some of the Vanilla unique weapons break the game. (Terrible Shotgun can do more damage than a Mini Nuke on a crit)

I normally prefer sci-fi to fantasy but TES games are just more fun to me. I get bored pretty quickly in the Fallout world but for some reason not in TES world.

If I had to choose between Morrowind and Fallout 1 & 2 then I'd choose Morrowind. If I'd have to choose between Fallout 3 or Skyrim then I'd burn my money in protest.

Right now, I like Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas more than Oblivion, but I didn't play Skyrim yet, and I'm pretty sure that's going to blow my mindhole.
