I don't Jedi is a religon
unfortunately it technically is. enough people put it as a religon in a census for it to count as one, so it counts, even if it is complete bullcrap.

although these guys seem to be taking it waaaaaayyy too seriously.
and of course, it could only happen in wales
People also take a book to seriously that was written back in the days when science consisted of dumb guessing and "The gods did it" accusations for things they couldn't explain. Yet somehow THEY get taken seriously by the government also.
hey yeah, that doesn't make sense. why do we pay attention to the irrational people who think that a bearded sky wizard does everything, rather than the clever people who've worked out how this shit ACTUALLY works? and how does said book get in the top 3 on the most-bought-books-ever list?

i own this coat but i would always remove the hood in a store, i wouldn't attempt to list goth as my religion and be a dick about it.

besides, jedi is not a religion, it was a paramillitary group specialising in policing. it wasn't a religion so much as a knightly order.

though the temptation to wear my hood up and my jenova's witness t shirt is almost too much to bear, they're imfringing on my rights as a sephiroth clone!

There are so very many levels of stupid here:

Firstly - In his "civvies" he looks like a punk and by that I mean that he is now my source image for someone attempting but not really succeeding at looking like a rebellious teenager.

Secondly - "Its part of your religion", seriously. Your religion is part of a movie, I mean there are stupider places to get a religion from but you have to see why people wouldn't take that seriously.

Thirdly - As an atheist I agree that Tesco should enforce the rule for everyone.

Fourthly - It is a stores right to kick people out who look like trouble. This is why pagans don't wear their Thane (think thats the right term) in public. (ceremonial knife)

Fifthly - I would have laughed at him to but then I would have laughed at any person who thought that they could break security procedures for their religion. (I am assuming that is why Tesco ejected him, as I understand it, it is so that the cameras can see you.)

Sixth - How Is This News.

Really, the guys a four star bell end, since it is for all intensive purposes a made up religion, i.e made up by the utter nut balls who have a serious issue separating so so written sci fi western from the real word that means their ARE no actual laws or rules to dictate the religions behaviour beyond what technically was in the movies.

I have seen all 6 movies and I can't remember the scene were Obi-wan said act like a dick end and wear your Jedi man cowl all the time. If he is citing religious bigotry on the part of Tesco then it is because he has made up the rule that he has to wear the hood all the time in which case the guy is more pathetic than... well someone who follows a religion based off some so so movies.

Why do we as a society give these vacuous nothings the time of day. Fuck off and crawl back under whatever rock it is you spend most of the time jerking your lightsaber under.
Arent all religions made up?
The Jedi religion is no more bullshit that the many others out there.
Infact i would say Jedi is more believable than some of the crap written in the bible.
Arent all religious doctrines made up rules? Whether it be the 10 commandments or his one about the hood.

Although i dont see how Jedi can be a religion everyone knows it's fictional and while other religions are also made up and fictional it cant really be proven.
Religion causes more problems than it has ever solved, why cant we just give up on it.

Since when did Jedi have to wear hoods all the time in public? The most easily discernible trend in the films is wearing a hood when you're 'being polite'/unobtrusive, and removal of the hood for conversation or fighting.

...I'll go back to my nerdcave.
Tesco made a similar point, which got me thinking. Jedi's wear the hood up as a focus for force powers of stealth quite often. Tesco had other grounds for kicking him out, namely that they wanted to see a Jedi open and accepting in their store as opposed to hidden and veiled. The Muslim ladies veil sends a different message so she still is ok.

Need company in the nerdcave?

just seems like a big nerd to most likely still lives with his mom.
i mean when under persure to say what religon you are the reply jedi is ok in a presured enviroment if you dno what to put. to to make it realy man fucked up.
and the muslims they should be told to remove them aswell. may be a veil but if its just the slit in the eye ones for some dumb ass reason then yes they can be removed but if you can see there full face but hair and necks covered then fine

Well to behonest yeah they do have the right, the "Jedi" could have taken the hood down, the whole hood thing is for security reasons in order to identify would be thieves, the reason they don't stop Muslims or Sikhs doing it is so they avoid a large racial out burst on there hands, Jedi's however aren't a religion nor are they a race, there just die hard star wars fans dressed up in robes, many stores would consider that as a cult.

Personally I think Muslims/sihks shouldn't be going around wearing them outfits in this country, not because I'm against them or their religion, but they conceal your identity which makes you harder to spot if you commit a crime, in there country it make sense to wear them because of the heat but over here it really doesn't and it creates a lot of double standard issues such as "I can't go into Tesco's with my coat hood up but there perfectly okay with a them walking in with big black sheets that conceal everything bar the eyes.

To each there own, if some one wants to go around dressed like a Jedi then well good luck to him, I wouldn't do it but that's just me. I give them credit for being brave enough to go out in public dressed like that with no care about people starring at them (Most likely people like you).

*Tesco security guard snaps awake*

Dave the Vendor: "I sense something...a presence I haven't felt since..."

*leaves to security office*

Dave: "He is here..."

Grand Moff Tesco: "Daniel Jones! What makes you think so?"

Dave: "A tremor in the Force. The last time I felt it was in a video rental store in 1984."

Tesco: "Surely he must be dead by now."

Dave: "Don't underestimate the power of The Force."

Tesco: "The Jedi are extinct, their fire has gone out of the universe. You, my friend, are all that's left of their religion."

Dave: "Jones is here and The Force is with him."

Tesco: "If you're right, he must not be allowed to escape."

Dave: "Escape is not his plan. I must face him alone."

*on the shop floor*

Dave: "I've been waiting for you, Jones. We meet again, at last. The circle is now complete. When I left you, I was but the assistant; now I am the Manager."

Daniel: "Only a manager of evil, Dave."

*Dave pulls out mobile phone and dials 999*

Dave the Vendor: "Your powers are weak, young man."

Daniel: "You can't win, Dave. If you call the police, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine."

I just can't help thinking of him swiping items at the self service with the force.... Woah...

But yeah I really don't think I want to get into a debate about what makes a religion valid. So bye now...

I'm not sure I can sympathise with a guy who treats the force as a religion. Also, the jedi (or jedies, not sure how it is in plural) in the movies didn't have to wear their hoods at all social places. Therefore the people following this "religion" are also doing it wrong. No sympathy for them.

I think the whole Jedi religion is too small to be considered a religion.. it's more a cult of nerds who have taken their obsession with star wars to the highest possible level and worship the damn thing. Now, Islam is a well established religion- so there is a slight difference here.

Btw, my opinion is that Muslims women should not wear a full burka in this country, it's a bit disrespectful to western culture which values face to face communication. The sight of a woman in a burka is also quite unnerving. I'm fine with head scarf's and turbans, since they don't hide the face. There is an old saying that "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" When in someone else's country, you should follow the local practices and behavior to a reasonable degree.

If they can be seen through then they're not following the rules of their religion correctly.
It's not a religion. If I worked at the store he got kicked out of, and he refused to take off his hood, I probably would of told him to fuck off before I get the cops, and tell him his "religion" is fake. If he gets a religion, I get another one (I already have one, in which I am the higher power of, called Baytheism).
I'm making a "Freemanism" religion, in which we worship Gordon Freeman. ALL PRAISE THE HOLY ONE!
We were talking about Islam there.

In New Zealand we have the highest rate of Jedi per capita (1.5%) according to our census. Both Buddhism and Hinduism have less than that at 1.2%. It is the second largest religion in our country (behind Christianity).

I thought Jedi were taught to respect the laws of man. Plus you don't have to wear the hood.

So I guess this guy was dicking around. Therefore he is no Jedi.
