I'd say electricity, but I guess metal makes sense too.

In regards to the poll, if the first 4 elements are basic substances, why would the 5th jump to an organism or ... the other unrelated things you mentioned?
Because some people think that. I just grabbed some of those '5th elements' and did them in the poll.

and btw, electricity originates from friction(I.E. lightning from the clouds when it's raining). friction = heat, that makes it the element fire.

I'm going with the Chinese:

Wood, Metal, Fire, Water and Earth. I could see Air instead of Wood, though, since Metal and Earth are REALLY close to each other.

So yeah, Metal would be the fifth element.

Humans or other creatures can't be "elements", seeing how they are built from few elements - mostly water, a lot of air inside and minerals (Earth).

The Fifth element can be found by quoting the third letter of every word on this website ever, uploading it onto a Linux, arranging them alphabetically, uploading them onto an iMac, and then, only then, will it print a map to the lost city of Atlantis, where the fifth element, (Butter) can be found in massive quantities.

For serious, I think the fifth element is the internet. It brings all together.

Some say it exists, some say it doesn't. Next to the other 4 elements(water, fire, earth and air) there should be a 5th element, although no-one's completely sure what it is.

I believe, how greedy it may sound, that we are the 5th element. We can manipulate the other elements at our will.

Of course, alot of other people believe something different. I've summed up a few of them in the poll, but if you think the 5th element is something else, enclose it in a comment.

[EDIT]: No, I did not mean all the elements of the Periodic Table, just the most basic like I summed up.

[EDIT-2]: I swapped 'Religion' with 'Metal' and added 'Electricity' in the poll.
I laughed really hard. Those aren't basic elements. There's a reason we use the periodic table of elements in science class - it's because Artistotle was wrong. Water is a pure compound. Fire is energy. Earth is a heterogeneous mixture, and air is a homogenous mixture. When it comes right down to it, none of them are pure (except maybe fire, but can you guess which of these four doesn't belong?). They aren't even a set.

T'would be metal I think... If the pentagram of elements is to be believed.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but Metal originates from Iron, a mineral found in the... you get it, Earth.

I just call it basic. btw this isn't science class.

Spirit (or Love) seems like it should be one, but so does electricity. So does that mean there should be six elements?
