Poll is too simple.

How about 13 as long as the other person's less than 12 months older, 14 as long as the other person's less than 24 months older, 15 as long as the other person's less than 36 months older and then 16 as long as they're not in a position of trust or authority like a teacher, guardian, foster parent or whatever, and 21 for anyone?

How about 13 for non-penetrative foreplay not including oral sex, 14 for non-penetrative foreplay including oral sex, 15 for foreplay including vaginal penetration, 16 for vaginal sex, 17 for foreplay including anal penetration and 18 for anal sex?

Another girl's finger is likely to be smaller than some guy's Hoseschlange, after all.

How about having a psychiatric assessment and biology exam that can be taken any time from age 12 up, to earn a certificate of having a clue what goes where and being mature enough to decide whether to put it there?

Maybe there ought to be adjustments for black-on-Asian, too. :-\

To me at least, people should be able to do whatever the fuck they want to their bodies as long as they can make an informed decision about it.
You are vastly overestimating the maturity and intelligence of 13 year olds.

But I don't see the point in raising or lowering the law (it is 18 here, inceidentally.)

If someone is going to fuck, they are going to do it regardless of whether or not it's legal.
If someone is not going to fuck, they are not abstaining because of a law, they are doing so for any reason but.
This, and usually the reason they aren't going to fuck is becuase they don't have the option. Or a Girlfriend at all. Ever. Much like me.

I'm for not having an age of consent, because as the past has taught us - Prohibition doesn't work. Didn't work for alcohol, wont work for drugs, never ever worked for sex.
That's still not a good reason to not even try and protect the immature.
Point is, they are going to do what they are going to do. People cannot be "protected" in a true sense unless you want to become a Totalitarian Regime.
So? Are you saying that because complete protection is impossible, we should abandon all effort?
I never said that.
That's what I interpreted the gist of your argument to be. So, then, what was it?
Are you asking what I interpreted the gist of my argument was, or what my argument was? You asked a different question each time.
What was your argument?
That teens are going to have sex regardless of laws enforced, and that prohibition doesn't work.
So, is it true that you are saying because prohibiting them is not perfect we shouldn't bother, or are you saying it has no effect at all?

No one of the relevant ages is going to be able to keep track of that.

The age of the older party /2 +7 is the minimum age for the younger party. (Applies 14+) Not just for schtupping but dating in general, outside of this bubble is creepy.
Thief!
Ha. XKCD FTW.

For me, I'm quite happy with the legal age of 16 here in England.

Course, if people are mature enough to have it before then, then they should be allowed (as long as there is an acceptable age gap, it is conducted privately, etc. etc.)

Oh, and in my eyes, a different age limit for homosexuals is completely wrong. I mean, I have a gay friend that came out of the closet when he was 14. Not only did he have trouble finding people his age to talk to about relationships, he knew he would have to wait longer than the rest of us to (legally) have sex.

Wow...it seems we have.*countS* 78 pedophiles on the escapist! (Going by UK law).

You people need help, really you do.

...? I'm just gonna venture a guess and say the age of consent in the UK is about..16 or so? I don't see 78 people say there shouldn't be an age of consent or say it should be 8 or something.

It's been stated before by about two different people, but apparently it needs to be stated again:

A) Pedophillia is the ATTRACTION TO (ie thoughts, desires, internal states) pre-peubescant (about what LESS THAN 11/12/13ish, depending) children, NOT below any given state or country's age of consent. I am not a pedophile if I (being 19) have sex with a mid-teenager. I'd be breaking the law (here, not other places or even states o.o) possibly, but it would still not be making me a pedophile. Even if I were to exclusively/majority wanted to sex/attracted to teenagers that is not pedophillia. That is...*goes to google (can't remember the word)* aha. That's Ephebophilia.

The problem with a blanket age of consent is a few things: A) It defines what is legal, thus (at least here I dunno about other countries) a) the penalties for violating the law are...you get your life fucked up. To enlighten those that don't know, upon getting out of jail for said offense, one is placed on the sex offender registry, must---I'll just link you, it's rather lengthy if I recall correctly...

Anyway B) second point is the emotional/psychological maturity of the one in question might be + or - that of a peer or even an older person.

There were only so many slots for a poll, and eating crayons is a valid point.

There still needs to be some sort of cut off to stop old men manipulating young children into having sex. Age of consent does this. If you are 16 you should know better than to sleep with children. In reality, when the age gap is 16/15 ish and its a relationship, the authorities tend to turn a blind eye in England.

The whole thing is fucking pointless anyway bacause whatever country or sexuality concerned it is incredibly easy not to be caught. An because of this the laws are widely ignored, rather like the underage smoking law.
