Name another big game retailer
Well, I can buy all the games I want from:
Best Buy
Futureshop
Walmart
Rogers Video
The Source
HMV
K-Mart
Target
Staples

I'm sure there is a few I'm missing.
And do you know how many private owned, 'mom and pop' stores around my area sell new-release video games?
Zero.

I'll keep buying from Gamestop.
no there is a company called game which is another big game retailer pluse quites a view of the shops you have mentioned aren't game retailers they are general stores and hmv is more of a music store.

His arguments are flawed. So monopoly is always bad?

However, I'll still not buy at GameStop. Not because I was told not to but because local GameStops really, really suck. They have less games than other retailers, they have strange staff members and their prices are sometimes purely insane. I'm not talking about 5? difference here, I mean "I can get the same game three times on Amazon for that price!"-insane...

More of a music store? Last HMV I went to had about 1/3 of the shop dedicated to various video games.

If another company that is more efficient and has better deals than Gamestop. Then I'll stop going there, but until then they will have to suffice.

I play on PC, so buying physical discs seems so old timey and quaint.

Is that a little PC Elitist? Maybe. But goddamnit, no one seems to care about the PC anymore, I have to get a smug sense of self satisfaction from SOMEWHERE!

More on topic, I think that Boycott has too much of a negative connotation. It pretty much all started with people freaking about L4D2, when Boycott became synonymous with, "Self-entitled pricks". Which is sad, because Gamestop is really not good for the industry. The better solution is to make your case rationally, and based in facts, and then tell people that you don't believe that we should support this unsustainable system. Nowadays, amongst gamers, tell them it's a boycott and they will feel like you are forcing them to do something, and they have zero confidence in your ability to do what you want to do.

I remember a long time ago (not so long but w/e) Gamestop used to be the ONLY place to pre-order games (online notwithstanding). As I've said before, and will keep saying, buying used games doesn't hurt the industry all that much if anything. Gamestop makes a profit... wow, thats how capitalism works people.
If game companies are so hurt by gamestop's practices, why haven't they bothered to stop doing business with them? Effective way of dealing with it if it were a problem, deny them any new releases therefore they can't sell new games and lose out on a big part of their market.

I didn't even know this was a revolution or anything o_O It's just that I don't like used games and I don't buy at GameStop because of the horrible service there. Seriously, I went there with a friend of mine when he was gonna buy a new game once when one of the employees who were going to get the DVD from behind the counter dropped the DVD, which then got dusty/dirty from the floor in the store, and he then proceeded to wipe off the dust/dirt WITH HIS HAND. Me and my friend were shocked that he then put the disc into the cover like nothing had happened and proceeded with the sale.

Oh, and there's the fact that my local music store sells games much cheaper and that I'm a regular customer there.

No thanks. I'm happy just boycotting Activision and buying the occassional game from Amazon. Unless Amazon makes it so that every game has free overnight delivery, that isn't changing. And the staff at my Gamestop are all awesome, so I'm happy to shop there.

Well, I try to buy new as much as I can... but there are no good shops in my area that sell video games besides GameStop. Wal-mart guys are just so ignorant on the subject that it's hard for me to deal with, and I can't drive but my parents won't drive me to Best Buy or Future Shop because they think that they're too far...

So, in conclusion, I will not change anything that I do because of this video. I will still buy new games from GameStop, unless it's really old; then I will buy it used.

Pff screw independant stores and gamestop. Best Buy does trade-in's too now and it's only an extra 2 miles from my house so Best Buy will now be my major store of choice.

Part of this problem also stems from the way games are being made. For now, most single-player oriented games are only worth 1 play through, if any at all. And modern multiplayer centric titles are too flavor of the month (omg, this multiplayer is so unique, its called Deathmatch, and your objective to to try and kill everyone!). Developers should try harder to make a game more worth it to pick it up and keep it for a while. Maybe stuff like free updates, or interesting and new multiplayer types. Gamestop only hurts the industry if we are buying games and turning them in quick after 1 play through. So I guess the answer is to make games less play once and turn in, and more keep it around because they'll add something new every once in a while.

Plus digital distribution solves a lot of these problems, there's no returns but because of the reduced overhead costs the games can go for cheaper than console games.

Damn. I can't believe how many people are against this. I mean, even Extra Credits has addressed this. Well, I for one, am willing to hurt a bit in order help others. Hell, that's the model I live my life by.

the problem is the fact that a majority of gamers buy majority of games from gamestop meaning that if they stop doing business with gamestop they will lose majority of their market.
