I wouldn't go but it wouldn't matter because where I live the draft will never happen. Most western countries don't bother drafting anymore, the modern military machine isn't something that drafting is really very compatible with.

I would run from the draft, but not from the fight. If the war's abroad, I'll find my own way over there and become a guerilla soldier allied with the US. If we're being invaded, I'll fuck up the invading force however I want to, whenever I want to

I fight on my terms. I'm not following the Geneva Convention, or taking orders. If you threaten my way of life, I will fuck you up.

Let me put it this way. I've been trying to join the miltary since junior year of high school, but have been repeatedly denied due to the fact that I'm on perscription meds. If they restart the draft, that means they're desperate for people to fight.

I'd probably escape. I don't think a country is something to die for, I don't want to kill and/or be killed, I wouldn't be any significant on the battlefield (well, does any single troop now when wars are so much about bombing and shit), and I'm a wimp.

So you send someone else off to fight, just because you are a coward.

Max, my man, you need more fiber in your diet. You only get screamed at if you fuck up left and right, it's not like in the movies. Even in countries that have the mandatory service law, one can choose to be a non-combatant and only be trained for non-combat duties. The military is just like a parralel version of the outside world, every job you see gets done by someone on base in uniform, that includes doctors, cooks, and even musicians. You're always going on about what a badass murderin' fool you are, I thought you might be glad at a chance to actually do it. Unless, of course, you are all talk and no substance.

Besides, you'd love it, no one has sex.

I can't respect killing someone in a rage, nor can I understand it, but I can tolerate it.
I can't respect killing someone under orders, just like I can't breathe underwater.

That's bad information (but not my fault.)

I don't like guns or loud noises, I hate fair fights, and I don't even like my country.
And killing someone in wartime isn't like killing someone in the real world - yes, it's always murder.
Yes, it's always your fault.
But in wartime, you can rationalize it and demonize them: I had no choice; my life was in danger; I'm fighting for freedom; they deserved to die.

And that may be, but the majority are also male.
I don't get along with other guys.

But frankly, there's a bigger issue: I don't want to.
Nothing is worth my life.
Country under invasion?
Move.
Freedoms being infringed upon?
Nothing the government hasn't already gotten up to.

I would just not do it. I would not hide and they can throw me in jail if it's that important to them, but I don't believe in war.

War is a pretty childish way of settling things and if they can't duke it out in civilized conversation, well, then they certainly don't need me.

Going to war does not meaning dying. You can also die any minute while not at war.

It means making a conscious decision to put your life on the line for...whatever.
Patriotism or something.

I don't know why people do that.

Because risk is a fundamental part of life, so you might as well risk your life to preserve your quality of life - your right to vote, your property, your loved ones. It's nothing more than the right to self-defence taken to a society-wide scale. If the war is unjust, then yes, or if the war is pointless, certainly, but arguing that there is truly nothing worth fighting for implies nothing more than a detached nihilism that stems from fundamental psychological weakness.

lets say your country went to War, and the draft was instated, and you yourself was drafted. would you willingly go to fight for your country or hide or run?

Call me a pedant (go on, because I am!) but if you were drafted, you wouldn't be going willingly, would you?

And no, I wouldn't go. Not until every member of the government who started the war went off to fight. Even then, I wouldn't kill anyone who was only there because they'd also been forced into fighting(i.e. most of the enemy soldiers)

So I'd probably end up working in a military hospital.

Scratch that. I'd run like hell for Switzerland. Last time I checked, I spoke 3 of their (4?) official languages fluently, so I'd get by.
