I like rap, I hate hip-hop.

The mid 80's to late 90's stuff, Ice Cube, NWA, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, the guys that were singing about street life, selling drugs, running from cops. They were singing about real life in those neighborhoods.

Now it's guys singing about how their rims are bangin', or how they're so rich that "bitches" be "all up on them."

I spent 7 years of my life growing up in a ghetto, I know what it's like to dodge gangs, and just try not to get killed on your way home from school.

I don't have "bitches" pole-ridin' in my solid gold pool. How the hell do I identify with being rich when I'm poor as hell?

(Mos Def was and still is amazing, fyi)

It's all rubbish. Its just untalented crap that can be sung by anyone, as long as they have some beat boxes in the background and talk about hoes and all that kind of crap.
Oh, we have a challenger? Great stuff!

Here's the beat - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVj7bzJOf3w

Your challenge is to have a track uploaded in a week. It doesn't have to have a set amount of views or anything, but I'd love to see you prove how easy it is to write decent rap. I mean, really, I would, I'm looking for something new to listen to at the moment, and if you can save me the time with your lyrical ingenuity then please, feel free.

Or is it not quite so easy? If you want, I'll even respond with my own track. Fuck it, I'm ready to put my money where my mouth is, what about you?
I would, but I like to keep anonymous, and playing your voice is not being anonymous.

If you can direct me to an audio changing software that is free, I could possibly reply to your challenge. Or I could just write up lyrics.

But fine, I will admit that not all rap is pure bile, but I find that most of it is, nowadays.
http://www.screamingbee.com/product/MorphVOXJunior.aspx

Your move.

And no. Anyone can write, it takes more to actually lay down a track. I know guys who can crowbar syllables into a bar and make it seem effortless. Likewise I know people who can spit fire, but overextend and try and fit four syllables in a 3 syllable space, and mess up because of it.

Come on, pen to paper, paper to mouth, mouth to mic. I want to see you attempt to do this.

You've admitted that not all of it is complete crap, that's cool. I won't come back quite so harsh when I write the reply. +3 to respect, but that still puts you at -2... if you've got the balls to record and upload, that'll put you back above 0

Having meaningful lyrics is a huge thing for me. I hate rap/hip-hop/whatever nowdays because of the lack of any meaning or morality in the lyrics. Actually, I don't like any music that has meaningless lyrics. There's no point in listening to the song it there isn't something to get out of it.

Three things:

1. Must it be the full length of the video? I don't want to do all of that. Perhaps one minute?

2. How much time do I have?

3. I would like a cookie when this is over.

It used to be good in the 90's when lyrics mattered. I still listen to old tracks mostly West Coast. Those guys rapped about stuff that actually matter. These days "rappers" rap about how they have money, and you don't and you suck because of it, and how they deal drugs and kill people and whatnot. And people actually listen to that bullshit and they don't understand that their favorite rappers are insulting them and lying to them.

1) 16 bars is the standard for a freestle. If you go from 1:51 - 2:47, that's a little under a minute and 16 bars. Still enough for you to understand it's not as easy as "Cat/Mat/Like Dat" , but not so much it swamps you. If you want to use the intro (and trust me, if you're going to be trying to hit it, you'll need it so that you're synched to the beat), use from 1:35 - 1:51, and obviously you'll start when the keys kick in.

2) I'm feeling generous. 14 days from now.

3) If you go through with it, your respect will be back above zero. If you do it and don't *totally* make a balls up, you can have your cookie. Do it well, and you have my respect.

Hilltop Hoods, Lupe Fiasco, Blu and Exile, Just Jack, Asher Roth, Gemstones, XV, Charles Hamilton, Mike Shinoda and Akala would like a word with you, something about generalisations?

May I go from the lines "Back before when Mark Wahlberg was Marky Mark" to "I'll be back in an hour or so"?

I am musically inept (Art class, ftw) so 16 bars are no help to me.

My opinion on rap is the same as my opinion on every other genre: Some of it is good, most of it will make your ears bleed, a very, very small amount of it will make you feel like you never need to hear anything else in your life, and it's modern incarnation is almost universally vile.

Sure, that was the intention originally, but I listened to the beat at the start and it's pretty weak, it doesn't really kick in until the second verse. Where the keys start/end are the points you need to be looking at.

I met a critic
I made her shit her draws
She said she thought Hip Hop was only guns and alcohol
I said "Oh hell naw!" but yet it's that too
You can't discrimahate because you done read a book or 2
What if I looked at you in a microscope saw all the dirty organisms
Living in your closet would I stop and would I pause it "whoo"
To put that ***** in slower motion, got the potion and the antidote
And a quote for collision the decision
Is do you want to live or wanna exist
The game changes everyday so obsolete is the fist and marches
Speeches only reaches those who already know about it
This is how we go about it

Or are we living in some bizzaro world where OutKast doesn't exist

Slow.

Big exams from the state. But glad on update - lost track of days. But who else wants to see me do this?

And since I am clueless from where to go to, please give me what line I should start at (prefereably the one Eminem starts singing) to (?)

Not really my bag. Though I won't dismiss rap out of hand, I will say anything I've heard that's popular is god damn awful. I've heard a few good songs though (mostly older stuff), so I'm not totally against it or anything.

Okay can I just say two things:

1) How can you say most of a genre is crap when you don't even listen to the genre you're talking about? That's ignorance in it's purest form.

2) Why is Eminem the only artist people have actually listened to, and why do they put him on a pedestal? Not only are there better artists out there, but those artists don't have the most violent, fucked up lyrics on the planet. I mean how many times can you kill your wife on track?? Someone want to do a word count on "Eminem" for me please?

*Sigh*
