High tech: Imperial Guard from 40k! Space marines can suck my dick, it's the imps that end up doing all the real wars. While they lose points for attrition and relatively poor organization, they kick ass just in a show of force.
That or the Galactic Federation marine core from Metroid Prime. Those guys have the technology, ships and organization. Yeah GF Marines win that.

Mid tech: That's hard to decide. Both of the options there are pretty terrible. But I'd go with the Earth Forces in obscure military sci fi novel series The Posleen War. They may start out disorganized, but they end up kicking copious amounts of ass. But I'm not sure if they really count as "Mid tech" with all their armoured exoskeleton elites or space travel though. But if UMSC counts as mid tech, then yeah.

Low tech: Possibly the Roman legions. But if Saruman didn't dick around in the Two Towers, a more widespread and more imperial Uruk-hai army would kick anyone's ass.

I'm going to be a bit of a 'tard and say that The Helghast rank pretty high for me, if it isn't due to the technology they they have, it's also because of their ruthlessness. However, the Spetsnaz and SAS are very highly placed too, mostly for their efficiency. Apparently a Spetsnaz soldier can leap over a low wall for cover, and in the process, throw a knife and hit the target.

United Systems Marine Core, ALIENS (Mid tech)
United States Colonial Marines. There, I fixed it :D
Your half right. During the movie they are the United States Marice Core, But in the comic books and novels, during the Alien Infestation of earth, all military grouped up to the United System Marine Core.

Well I would say the Adeptus Astartes simply because they have the technology, they have more than enough power in their soldiers, they have psykers and they have some pretty skilled tacticians.
For the Emperor!
Space Marines will destroy everything. If you read the backstory about their genetic engineering you can see just how powerful they are.
Except that the Adeptus Astartes is a precision tool for specific occasions, they don't have the numbers to be deployed in every occasion. It's the Imperial Guard with their pure weight of numbers and masses of heavy equipment that keep the Imperium going.
Now if ya generalised it to the Imperium of Man, that gives ya all of the Adeptus (Astartes, Sororitas etc), the Guard, Titan legions, Inquisition, everything. After all it's all the armed forces of the emperor :p

Think I'll go with that under High Tech Other lol
Mid tech I'd go with the Colonial Marines (USMC Aliens on the list, there's just summut about them I like)
Low Tech I'll take Ancient Rome (Always a good choice and something that always peaked my interest)
That's 2 from the list and one other, that'll do :p

Edit: I see in typing that lot out I was beaten to it lol

Tau Empire. Yes, I'm biased. That does not take away from the fact they are likely the rulers of the 42nd millennium.

In terms of raw power, Space Marine Astartes.

In terms of real armies, Wehrmacht for sure.

This ought to answer it.

Where one of us falls, ten more will take his place. And for each of those ten, there will be billions more, on millions of planets, waiting for the order to charge into the breach, and die fighting.

We are the living wall of the Imperium Of Man. We are His unmovable shield. We are His unstoppable hammer. Our blood is the price paid for the safety of Mankind; neither heretic nor mutant nor alien or xeno shall pass. We draw a line to the sand and for the glory of the Emperor, die holding it.

We are the Imperial Guard. In nomine Deus Imperator.

This. But I'm not sure if it's fair to group them all together. The space marines are required since the Heresy to be completely detached from the Guard and they operate separately, while the Inquisition is much more of a crazed dark age police force rather than an actual war-waging tool.

hmm... the way I understand this, the idea is to pick an army that can cause largest amount of death and destruction in a shortest amount of time possible.

If that's so I pick Covenant Armada.
0:00 hours- arrival on the planets orbit.
1:00 hours- starting up energy projectors and beginning to glass the planet.
3:00 to 5:00 hours (depending on size of the planet and fleet)- glassing complete, planet reduced to a irradiated ball of molten rock with its atmosphere on fire if not already gone, making any attempts of recolonization impossible.
6:00 hours- move to the next planet.

Rinse out, repeat.

From what I hear they single handedly hold off most of the Universes Aliens (which focus most of their fire on Humanity).
They still have nothing on the Imperial Guard, if the Astartes went to war against the Guard with no Xeno influence the Guard would easily win with sheer numbers, tanks, and artillery (or even without support)...

The Emperor Protects!!!

This is true, however, I thought if I was going to group under the flag of the Imperium I might as well include everything. The Titan Legions and the Skitarii are attached to the Adeptus Mechanicus for instance, who operate somewhat independently under the blessings of the Omnissiah, it's pretty complicated so I went for a simplistic approach :p
Everyone is fighting for the Imperium of Man after all, even if it is in different ways with differing agendas :p
