No I don't hunt. There is something about killing unarmed helpless creatures who didn't even agree to participate in this "sport" that doesn't appeal to me. And I don't like anyone who hunts.

Not exactly hunting but when mixamatosis got to the local rabbit population on my mates dads land we used to go round putting them out of their misery with a .303 or 12 guage.
.303 for rabbits. Overkill or what? I've used .22-250 on a hare and I swear I'll never do that again.

Anyways, generally I stick to things like squirrels, rats, rabbits and pidgeons. The pest animals.

I have never done it but I really want to give hunting a try. The only weapon I have is a .22 air rifle and i don't know what thats suitable for hunting, if anything at all and i cant afford a shotgun or anything. And i dont know whether or not you need a liscence or anything to go.
I also wouldn't know where to go. I live in north east England.

And to the people with objections to hunting, this thread isnt for you. Its for people who do/want to hunt. If you have an objection, start your own thread about it.

Yeah, I just like Lee Enfields. If ever I'm given a choice, that's what I'll go for.

I have never hunted an animal. I have never even touched a gun. I have however tracked people down and broken their spines with my bare hands.

I'm sort of morally opposed to hunting, unless the game is noobs in UT3, and my weapon is a BioRifle. Love it when those green globs of slime melt peoples' brains.

Saying he committed genocide is wrong 'cos he never, I have just looked it up and it says attempted genocide is still genocide but it isn't.

Let me explain, you either do something, don't do something or attempt to do something, murder for example. You can either a murder, not a murder or attempt to murder, just 'cos you tried to do it doesn't mean you did it. If we go by the definition that attempted means you succeeded that means I flew once!

People who do things the hard way round are illogical, life is to short to make things hard for yourself (no jokes please).

I like what Bill Bailey said "I am a vegetarian, I only eat fish ... and ducks, well comon there like fish, they spend most of there life in the water ... and cows ... and any other animals that go near water"

I know a male deer is a buck, I just heard a guy say "he is full of buck shot" on a horror film after a guy got wasted by a shotgun so I just call it buckshot.

How about you don't eat the hard to get stuff? I have never had it so it's not essential to living. It is nice to vary things around but I can vary it without hunting.

You probably can buy it, butchers or more upper class places will probably stock it.

Go to a pet shop and buy a pet to have a close relationship with an animal, if you don't want to clean up after it just go to a friends house or a petting zoo. It's hardly a relationship if you look at it down the sites for a few seconds then treat it like the Russian civvies in MW2 and make it fall down.

Exactly, I don't want a relationship with a cow, I want a burger, with cheese, maybe some milk and leather clothes and/or furniture.

So you think "wow, look at that deer eating grass in these woods, isn't it amazing! It's like a scene from a movie .... I shall call it Bambi's mum!"

Well I've never hunted before and I don't have much intention to do so. I've only ever held two guns in my lfe (Not even fired them) and I don't think I could actually pull the trigger and end some poor animals life.

Seriously guys: what are you all freaking out about? Hunting is an ageold tradition. When i put a swarm of birdshot in a grouse I belive i have earned the right to kill it and eat it cause i'm skilled enough to do it. Said grouse feels no pain at all if you do it right and hunting associatons focus primarily on killing the animal humanely. These comments on genocide and that hunters do it for entertainment is a farse. Ofcourse there are hunters who do it for the thrill of the hunt. I am one them and if your'e going hunting you might as well enjoy it. The animals are killed anyways if you buy it from a store.
people have been doing this since the dawn of time and controling the population of a species if very important due to the fact that without doing so, there will not be enough food for everyone. Then they will starve to death and die slowly. How humane is that?

Seriously people: I expected more from the social elite that is The Escapist...

Ah yes, here we are back to the automatic assumption that hunting is only done for trophies.

No, if I'm going to bag a whitetail it's because I want it's tasty, tasty deer flesh. NOT because I want a fucking head to put on the wall.
Can't you just buy the meat if you want to eat it? I'm sure someone will even cook it for you.

Even if you do kill the deer, do you eat the whole thing? What do you do with the fur, the skeleton, the hooves, the fat? Do you sell the extra meat to markets? The fur to the tailor? Use the fat to make soap and sausages?
And your point is what exactly? That I need to use every bit of it to make you happy? I'm disrespecting it if any of it goes to waste? Sorry but that doesn't fly to me, frankly this discussion is starting to lose any purpose.
You said you wanted the Meat, not for the trophy.

You can buy the meat from an animal specially selected for that purpose, if you buy a couple of steaks, the rest will go to some other people, frozen and kept in a market for a longer period of time.

So you can't justify that anyway unless you need the 'sport' without the 'trophy'

Oh yeah, because every part of every animal that's killed in an abattoir for sale to supermarkets for people to buy is used up. No, there's no waste there at all...

So your point is if something isn't perfect it's completely wrong?

Let's say there's a deer, the amount of utility you get out of it as an individual or a group of friends vs the professional experience of farmers/butchers/abattoirs will be vastly different.

Nothing to do with what you want, but that logic is just wrong

An Idaho hunting license is $12.75, the game tag for a deer is $19.75, so from a strictly practical standpoint an entire deer would cost me $32.50 plus my time and effort, thus saving a large amount of money as compared to going to a specialty meat shop.

None of the meat is going to go to waste either, what's stopping me from buying a chest freezer and storing it in there? It'll easily last a year or more and I can guarantee you I'd eat all of it.

As for getting some 'sport' out of it as well, all I can say is: DUUUHHH...

If I wasn't going to get some pleasure out of the act of going into the wilderness and hunting an animal down to begin with then it sure as shit wouldn't be worth my time and effort. As long as I'm actually using the animals body for something useful and not just letting it all go to waste then I don't see what the problem is.

...

Besides, since when did I have to justify anything to you anyway?

EDIT:
Fixed a typo.
