Poll: The MMO Downfall (aka the WoW effect.)

There's a reason WoW is so popular. It's the best. I've tried all the popular MMO's. There are some decent ones but none of them compare to WoW. I would still play that game if it didn't have such a massive time commitment

Hey let me tell you something, it may come as a surprise to you but: your opinion of WoW being bad doesn't make WoW being bad a fact.

WoW isn't going to die anytime soon, new content is released around the time when (I'd estimate) less than 10% of players have fully completed the previous content. Furthermore, I doubt that they'll be running out of new content anytime soon. There is a tonne of unused stuff in the game, and I'm sure Blizzard writers could come up with a lot more.

I never said Wow was bad, I said that eventually WOW will become BORING.

So you only want WoW to die. You don't give a shit if someone clones it exactly as long as they are not playing WoW in specific....

More to the point better is subjective.

I think Galaxies pre-NGE was better then WoW in every conceivable way.(Except maybe graphics and clarity of what stats equipment had.)

Clearly I am in the minority since SoE turned it into everquest.

Once again. Why does it matter if people enjoy playing a game you feel people shouldn't. If you enjoy these games you find better then Wow play them and stop complaining that other people don't want to play them.

WoW is a constantly good game. I like good games, as do most gamers. I'm all for smaller devs making gmaes, but if they don't compare then I'm not wasting my money on them. I've played at least 10 MMO's, and I have to say, WoW is by far the best one I've played. But I got bored of it. I managed to take myself away from it. I don't expect all the players to play forever; almost every game loses the MAJORITY of it's fanbase eventually.

But as many people have said, games don't need to be popular or mainstream to be enjoyable. I play new flash games every Thursday and they are just as, if not more, enjoyable than many console games I play.

And one of my favourite games is hated by all of my friends, just as I hate the game they all play (damn you Call of Duty...)

Then perhaps the other games should become good enough to take away WoW's users, then? Or, even better, find another market! A demographic that WoW doesn't target, one that doesn't feel that there is an MMO out there for them.

Yes you did. Wanting people who enjoy the game too all stop playing it or play a mimic of it means to kill it.

Its NOT. People know about warhammer, FFXI, Aion.

As well as they know about indie MMO's. People just choose not to play them.

The reason why i don't play Warhammer isn't because Wow is more well known. Its because it wasn't any fun for me. This rings true with most gamers.

Two things.

1) So a company doing well and providing a quality service that brings in tons of fans is something to hate them for? That's like hating the most popular kid in school despite the fact he wants to be your friend.

2)Its not slowly killing the other games. The FTP games are doing just fine. Just because they don't have millions of players doesn't mean they are dying. The people trying to emulate Wow are going to burn. That's a fact. However the unique ones are doing just fine. Not multi million dollar fine but turning a profit.

People don't play other Mmo's even if they're better because they put so much time in WoW and don't want to go waste just as much time and money or even more to get to the same point in the other mmo

Correction.

No one is willing to drop playing WoW to go play a re-skinned WoW under a different name to grind up and do the exact same things.

Once more better is quite subjective. If Galaxies ever was released to its glory before NGE I would have no problem giving WoW the finger and going back to my home on Naboo.
