The scroll wheel is beautiful.

It's brilliant in it's simplicity and effectiveness.

Never! The scroll on my touchpad tends to get messed up and doesn't want to react sometimes. At those times i usually just leave my laptop and go do something else. The scroll is really important to me.
Mine did that, which inspired this thread.
Just restart your laptop, it should fix it straight away. Well, at least for me, that works.

Not at all! I regularly have to use 10-year old mice with only two buttons because my school is Cheap.

Oh yeah, and those mice still have trackballs.
My university's library is just as cheap. Hell, the computers have floppy drives. Floppy drives!! Trackballs, you say? All hail the mighty ball of tracking.
On a totally unrelated note, I miss floppy discs.
I loved those things, you could frisbee them across a room and hit some guy in the head.
Course, it was the teacher and seeing as I was 7 at the time, I normally got away with it.
Normally. >.>

Yes. It is important in all of my day to day activities, but most importantly for the act of quickly switching weapons in video games.

Funnily enough, I have similar troubles every time I use a mac scroll.
If I try to scroll up it's DOWN FOR ME AND I SHOULD KNOW MY PLACE DAMNIT.
[small]Maybe I'm the only one that hears the terrifying whispers of an enraged mac...[/small]

Oh, I don't miss them at all. Then again, back home I probably have close to 100 of those floppies lying around my room. Something tells me a good 99% of them are absolutely empty. Ah, memories of dial-up and old desktops running Windows 98.

My laptop didn't have one and it was a pain in the ass. Now I have a new mouse with a Super Powerful scroll wheel! It doesn't have a Mouse 3 button however. Weird.

Upon reflection, I do love this two-finger scrolling. Without it, it would be hugely obnoxious to scroll using the scroll bar or, even worse, the scroll ARROWS.

Ah. Scroll ability, I loves it. Every day I enjoy touching it and it enjoys being touched.

Disregard the wording of that last sentence.... >.>

I love it (I scrolled down to post this response :p) but I could live without it. I didn't have a mouse with a wheel for a number of years before I got this one so I could stand living without it if I needed to. It sure is a nice luxury though, both for gaming and web browsing.

My mouse wheel actually is broken, thanks for reminding me. I can't turn it to scroll, it will just go nuts and do whatever it wants. So now I click the button to get to this mouse-scroll-thingy and I love that option, haven't scrolled properly in months.

Wow; you learn something new every day. Thanks!

...and no, I wouldn't really miss it. My laptop doesn't have one, I just use the arrow-keys to scroll.

Mine is kinda broken, it doesn't always understand if I want to scroll down or up, this is mostly just annoying in games that require me to zoom, like som RTSes and certain sniper rifles. IN a browser, I can just click it and drag the mouse in the direction I want to scroll.

Behold my mouse of the past 10 years.

As you can see, no mouse wheel.

NOW WORSHIP ME AS THOUGH I WERE A GOD!

Yeah I'd miss it, I'm just too lazy to move my hand two centimeters to the right then click and move down. It's just not in my nature. =S

I'd miss it, but I could function without it. I mainly use number keys+Q to change weapons in games, and often just use the arrow keys to scroll.
