Mine has been broken for about a year and everyone in my household, including me, refuses to go out and spend money on a new mouse. Woo, actually using directional buttons and manually clicking and dragging the scroll bar!

I just use my laptops touch pad. So yes, I could do without it.
Chances are you can get two-finger scrolling. Almost all the touchpads on laptops are developed by Synaptics or ALPS. If you have a Synaptics touchpad, you can just get new drivers from the Synaptics web site and enable mouse gestures such as two-finger scrolling.

page up and page down however are a completely different kettle of fish
My big problem with my MacBook: No PgUp/PgDn. In Mac OS X, you can use Command+Up or +Down; but in my other OS's that isn't mapped, so no more scrolling through my message buffer in linux terminals...

I got the new Mac mouse so no scroll wheel to control things anymore. Just lovingly stroking the mouse makes it do that now. It's so good!

My mouse's scroll wheel has been broken for months. It was annoying at first. I have learned to cope. Perhaps some day I'll get a new one, but my internet habits haven't been disrupted by the lack of it
I laugh in the face of your puny wheel!

I have a scroll wheel that can scroll normally or can just spin freely. It's bad-assery at it's finest. Hell yeah Logitech G9x!

Yes I could cope with it, there's always the space bar. :p

I'm not sure. I think that without it, I would rediscover the lost art of summoning the scroll function using the two buttons on the mouse. I am not sure how, but I mastered this back in the Windows 98 days, where some combination of the two keys would have the same effect as clicking the scroll wheel has.
When it comes to games I would manage, there is often another just as easy way of zooming in and out, and I usually change weapons with the number keys anyway, since I always forget which way to scroll to get the right weapon.

Hell yeah, I would miss it. That little thing got me through some not really tough times.

I love you scroll wheel. :D

I use pg up and pg down since I primarily keyboard navigate at college, since I unplug the mouse to troll the teachers if they want to use my station... it's hilarious(to me)

I have a laptop, and I don;t have one, but if I put 2 fingers on the pad and move, it acts like a scroll wheel.
I Coop.

Damn right. Internet browsing was awful when I got my new netbook, because I hadn't yet figured out that the driver for the touchpad allowed special movements.

It'd be annoying to lose it, but it's not utterly essential or anything.

Crysis would have been a bit more awkward to play, though.

After recently having the scroll wheel on my mouse break i realised how completely dependant i am on in. Nearly all games use it, doing work uses it, surfing the internet uses it. It was shocking how completely crippling it was.

In short, the world as we know it would end and everyone would go bonkers if all scroll wheels were to break.

I would definitely miss it! I could live without it of course but I would certainly miss it a lot.

I use a laptop's touchpad which, while having a scroll bar at the side, I don't scroll with. The reason is that the scroll bar is an utter piece of shite which is so unresponsive you might as well be trying to scroll down the screen with a banana. The rare occasion it does work is the times I don't want it to work.

So yes, I could easily cope, and do so, without the scroll wheel
