I've had the red ring five times across two separate units. I just alternate between them when one or the other dies.

i got it once on the 1st 360 i had which i got on the release date. it had a very good run and im not surprised as i did a lot of weekend long game sessions. so i was surprised it lasted that long. then i won myself a 360 elite and no matter how long i have left it on it is always COOL :O if you dont have a 360 or need a new one go to the elite and you love it 
My first 360 had one red light and the E68 error message. I work at a games store, so I switched it there just to make things easier. I switched for pre-owned machines 'cause my first model didn't have the HDMI slot. Had problems with the disc tray refusing to budge (what do people do to these?!) and kept switching 'til I got Xbox number 4.
That worked brilliantly for a week, before it did a disc read error. Turned it off, turned it on thinking it'd be fine 'cause my first 360 threw up errors all the time, and there was the RRoD. Yays.
Switched that one AGAIN for a newer model with a HDMI slot. So far, so good.

Yes. I took it to a repair shop that gave me a 90 day warranty after returning it to me. I took it home and after five minutes of play time,it RRoD'd on me. I took it back and expected after the first time that it would never happen again. I was so wrong. It happened three more times. After spending 30 days getting reapaired, I got it back and it was finally working. End of story, right? Wrong, again! After a month of no troubles, the red ring somehow found its way back on to my 360 which is Elite by the way. I still got 18 days on my warranty but I might just ask for a refund and be on my way. I honestly don't know who to blame Microsoft or the repair shop but I am leaning towards the repair shop. I would get a PS3 but it took me months to save for that 360 and I don't even want to think about howlong it would take me to get a PS3.
I got an elite for Christmas a few years back, and I got the RROD in that. I bought the basic version while I sent it back, so now I have two. If one of them dies again, I can just rotate the other one in. It's the best of both worlds!
I got my 360 at christmas and in march my hardrive fell asleep for a few days and woke up with a bit of corrupted data but bar that all is fine. I much prefer it to to ps3 though its a much more social experience online even if you come across a few ***** ******* ************** ****** **** people
