Well, if it were a public school, I'd be saying no, but it's a private school, so they've got you by the beard, really. Although you could always tell them it's for Movember, and it's a means of raising awareness over men's health issues, though whether that would fly I don't know.

Thats messed up. I think they just want say "Individuality Counts so we must all look the same". Its complete bull. Also i have a question. How does it step up to a full beard and mustache and not far from a goatee? I used to have the one of the king of Beards so that sentence puzzled me lol.
sorry, bit inaccurate on my part. if you saw what it was like before it got like that I think you'd get it. but yeah, sorry about that
I say grow a full be and Braid it Viking Style. I was going to do it but ended up shaving the thing for work. DAMN ME WANTING TO WORK IN A KITCHEN!

Except you probably won't look as lame i hope lol.
I dunno, it has a sort of "Crazy but fun uncle Odin" type of feel to it

I was going to say yes, but then you said that they don't even have a rule against it. A school shouldn't be able to make you do something that isn't in their rules.

One teacher started calling me "Zoro" and another said it looked "demonic". I liked both these comments
You should revert to your original plan of growing a soul patch, shave the bottom (And maybe the 'tasche) and cultivate the patch!

Well yeah a school shouldn't really be able to tell you to shave...

I understand in some places/conditions it's a necessity and a health and safety concern.

But in school? Doesn't sit right with me...
Pretty much this.

It's not conflicting with part of theschool uniform it's your hair and they have no right ot make you shave it off just in the same way they have no right to make you cut your hair or force you to grow it longer. It's your body and your choice, if at high school the asked me to shave my beard I would have told them to fuck off.

I know exactly what you mean...hey come to think of it, usually the rules stated that boys hair had to keep off the collar (our school has a lot of mopheads) and this rule was then removed with the new headmistress (the one who liked my beard)

Private school, so you will jut have to deal with it.

Even if it were a public school, you will still have to deal with it if the school decided to do something about it. Thanks to a couple of high profile supreme court cases, the schools do have the authority to restrict free speech if the school feels that having such speech would violate safety.

Hairstyle counts as free speech.

They made you shave your facial hair?!
The owner of the school obviously felt threatened by it.
Honestly, I wouldn't have done it.
If it's not against the rules, then why does he demand that you shave it off?
Doesn't this guy have anything better to do?
Then they use that hypocritical motto.
It makes me sick.
This, this and a million times this. The pure hypocracy here is disgusting, i would walk to the head mistress and show her this motto demanding iether a change in motto, my beard, or an anouncement the hypocracy in an assembly. This makes ME outraged. You should have spoken up.

Look you go to a private school, they can ban the color orange if they want to, if they don't want beards than thats their decision. Most likely it is aimed at pepole who would not take care of their beard and let it look bad, the school has an investment in how the students look after all.

I go to a private school to, we are not allowed to have facial hair there either. However 3 students have beards based on religious grounds, Eastern Orthodox Catholics. Same thing with hats, some students wear yarmulkes, obviously Jewish, and that is perfectly fine. At my school small amounts of well kept facial hair are generally ignored unless their are pepole visiting.

Honestly Id tell em to fuck off, if its not in the written rules / contract or what ever you had signed enrolling in the school then your within your right!

I Had the pleasure of telling my headmaster back when i was in school to fuck off when he told me to remove my eyebrow piercing, I had checked the schools written rules before hand. He wasn't pleased but I won xD

Id spose things have changed since I was young enough to be in school lol

I can understand why they'd want you to shave it off.

I'm sure they don't want people to see you in their uniform and think that their esteemed learning institution is the kind of place that that enrols people who:

a) Are adults but are pretending to be teenagers so they can pick up the teenage schoolgirls.

b) Are adults who are a bit thick or have behavioural problems and have had to be kept back a few years.

You should take it as a backhanded compliment, obviously your facial hair made you look significantly older than you actually are which is reason enough for a private school to want you to shave.

Does freedom of religion apply in the UK? Are you particularly religious? I've been told there's a bit in the bible that says "...neither shall you mar the corners of your beard.." (can't recall the passage, sorry) If you can find it, you might be able to avoid shaving on the grounds you think it blasphemy or something.

I went to a Catholic highschool and I had hair down to my chest and a full beard. I guess I looked like Jesus so they didn't care. But then I never saw anyone complain about mohawks, strange coloured hair or anything else. All they wanted was for us to keep the uniform on, and even that one of my friends put metal studs in and got away with it.

As it is a private school I would have to say they do get to make whatever rules they want, since you have the choice to not go there. Its still a pretty bullshit decision though, especially considering that was very well kept facial hair. I've done some way crazier styles before.

Sorry mate, but in private school you have to put up with folicular opression or get kicked out.

Kinda stupid isn't it though?

Really? It's stupid that just because people are in charge, they get to make up rules like that without anyone's consent
