fag·ot
?noun
1. a bundle of sticks, twigs, or branches bound together and used as fuel, a fascine, a torch, etc.
2. a bundle; bunch.
3. a bundle of pieces of iron or steel to be welded, hammered, or rolled together at high temperature.

There's more than one meaning to this word.
Just like 'gay' doesn't actually mean homosexual.
And 'fag' is a slang for exhaustion.
How people got around to use these as slang for 'homosexual', I'll never know.

Tangent - Maybe witchburning/religious connotations? I'm assuming that's how they came to use it, something to be burned, maybe that's how it took on that meaning.

It's humour and you choose.

The main group of people I really can't deal with are those who choose to go see a stand up like Louis CK or Jimmy Carr or the like, someone known for saying offensive things and then laughing thru the gay jokes, laughing thru the religion jokes, laughing at the jokes about gypsies, or immigrants, then flipping out because there's jokes about the disabled, because 'that's not funny, no-one should be allowed to make fun of that'.

Just because you're in a wheelchair, if you choose to come to an 'edgy' comic, don't be surprised if he has a crack at you, and if you don't like it, well, just walk ou- oh yeah.

Still annoys me that Jimmy Carr felt he had to apologise, tho it seems he did it in a 'I'm sorry that you are so humourless' than a real one, when he did a perfectly harmless gag about soldiers coming back from the war with missing limbs.

I say harmless, because it was about 'Say what you like about the amputees coming back from Afghanistan, we're going to have a great Paralympics team next time.' He's saying that they're strong, that they won't give up, and crucially, the GB team IS recruiting from the injured soldiers. I can understand a parent of a soldier being upset, but actual soldiers say worst shit than that daily, gallows humour helps deal with living in conditions like that.

He didn't say it on TV, or in a public arena, but to people who'd paid to see him.

Also, fully agree with Louis CK in the clip linked, if we could just get rid of the link '******' has with homosexuality, it'd be better than trying to get the word stopped.Anyone using it in a homophobic way, well, that's just them being gay about things.

Yahtzee doesnt hate homosexual people. He just hates everyone.
Exactly.

Everything is going to be offensive to somebody, and with the right context pretty much everything IS offensive.

My philosophy is to laugh at everything or nothing. For example, if you don't mind the word "retarded" why would the word "******" bother you? (feel free to replace those words with any others) Again, I say that this is according to context. Obviously if someone is using these words purposefully and with malace that's different.

I don't really get the feeling that that's waht Yatzee is doing, as has been pointed out, he often refers to himself in the same way.

In any case I think that for most people the meaning of the word has shifted a little.

I like this fly-boy's fire. He has a certain jeh neh say kwah.

He has a point though. You know what it means. I know what it means.
It doesn't mean "retard" or "douchebag" like some are claiming. Yes, on 4chan, it basically means "person", but when it's used in any other context, it means "sissy, not unlike a mincing fairy". People call one another it over multiplayer games to directly attack the other person's masculinity. This isn't a secret.

And it ain't your job to "reclaim"/"normalize" it for them, so sit back and wait it out. You still have quite a backlog of words you "can't" use without getting pre-approval so it might take a bit before you get to that one.
Thank you! I'm definitely opinionated. And yes, that's the entire point. Like I said, Yahtzee videos, there is what some would consider offensive language, but he's out there like that, but that's part of what makes him who he is. However, we all know that the word ****** in every day life, is not just a generic word like douchebag. It's a much heavier loaded word with all kinds of negative connontations. It is a word MEANT to cut an individual down and offend. And, it is a word that has a meaning and implied message we all know. How anyone can say it's just a joke word when no-one else it in that fashion is sort of ridiculous.
I've seen lots of people use it in that fashion.

This whole attitude of "it's just a word" stems from people not wanting to address the actual realities of the word and why they use it, and not wanting to care about the feelings of others, all because it makes them think, and we know that's a struggle for many.
You know if you want people to listen to you it helps to not insult them. You come off now as a massive tool.
People may use it like "hey, you stupid ******", but please, is that supposed to be endearing? No. It isn't endearing. It's a negative word, because it has negative connotations. The reason there is a debate in the first place IS because people KNOW it is a word that carries a lot of weight with it. Even if most in society pretend as if it's just a word, it isn't.

Also, as far as me insulting anyone, and me being a tool. Well, I'm not the one using ****** and thinking it's a joke, unless of course it's Yahtzee videos or maybe comedians, where it's part of their gig. So, that flies over my head, and really, is comical to me. I'm the tool because I don't like using ****** and think it's offensive. Wow.

Yes, next thing you know, you won't be able to drop the N-bomb freely.

Honestly now. I'm not offended by it, but this "pretend this is a new thing" kinda stuff is why I almost don't want to admit it. I feared this topic would be filled with people (i.e. SWM 13-25) claiming they don't know why it's supposed to be offensive when I read the title. Because these topics always are.

Has ****** even actually meant a bundle of sticks any time in the last 50 years? I'm pretty sure at this point it's just an excuse for every supposedly-clever person to show that they really don't get that words occasionally change meanings over the years.
That's not political correctness. That's racism. As far as I know, a ****** isn't a race. It also doesn't mean a homosexual. It (when used in the derogatory sense) means someone who is unfit to live as part of society. It's only recently began to mean homosexual and then even more recently it's stopped meaning that.

I have nothing against people with tact. Political correctness is a good way to destroy some prejudices. It's also a very good way to get you tangled up in so much bureaucracy that you can't use half the words in the English dictionary because someone feels they have a negative connotation.
And, this is essentially what I'm talking about. If the n-word is racism, than ****** is homophobia. "A ****** isn't a race" says it all. I mean, I only wish people would get real with the true attitude behind using this word and the lack of any sort of care with it. It's because gay people, especially gay men, are not considered fully equal, or even fully human. Let's stop pretending otherwise. Because if it were otherwise, than the n-word, ****, ***** etc., would be used openly and just be normal social vocabulary, and these words are not. It has not stopped meaning homosexual because people want it to stop meaning that. That's simply shooing the issue away because people don't want to and don't care about addressing it. The word has been used in connection to gay men for a LONG time, and it still most certainly is.

Heterosexuals can't just decide to take back the word or decide what it means, and say it carries no power with it. This isn't about us. This is about the gays. And the context ****** is used 90% of the time is directly linked to anti-gay stereotypes.

Just part of his regular routine and trademark persona of insulting everyone and everything, there's no actual or specific homophobia behind it. If he tiptoed around gay people while lambasting everyone else, that would seem far more out of place, like an implicit claim that they were somehow not good sports who could take his brand of comedy (despite choosing to watch ZP) when directed against themselves. I have no problem with it.

You can use any words you want. Sometimes people will think less of you for using them. It's your choice.
Chances are if you're throwing around a term "someone" feels has a negative connotation in front of that "someone", then you're not actually showing any tact. Part of being in a civilized society means knowing what not to say in certain situations to certain people; raging about how you can't throw around Offensive Word A whenever you want is not the most adult thing to do.

Since you're being intellectually dishonest though (see below), tell me: Do you run around saying **** and retard at work/in polite company? After all, "that's not racism hurr".

Words are just words and there will always be someone offended, just so they can be offended by something. Personally, I don't care. I snicker at his offensive jokes, as they are ment to be snickered at.

I don't think he's an active homophobe or hates homosexuals in any way, so no, I don't think anyone should be offended by him.

I'm gay, and it doesn't offend me. Yahtzee's style is to be offensive to everybody, so what's the point in singling out one term? If he wasn't so creatively vulgar, he wouldn't be nearly as funny.
Therefore the next term for Yahtzee to say would be either some Asian slur or ******.

...

Dammit, that word in that voice sounds kinda cool actually.

OT:

He does it to be funny and offensive.

Though if he meant it to be insulting to someone, he'd just say the username of a popular forum goer and say, "That person is a ******. He should go die in ****** Hell.".
