That sounds absolutely hilarious and I must play it to find out how absurd that is.

Is it like an parallel opposite to my Shepard? Will it be a Paragon Shepard if I'm Renegade? Because THAT would be amazing.
What if you're a paragade, is he a renagon? Is he/she twice as neutral as you?

The campiness sounds a little too campy here. If I play something like Mass Effect, I do so for a grounding, emotional experience, or to see how much I can dick with the universe. That level of camp is too much in this series.

I liked that DLC but the final scene with the clone (where your friends rush to save you and Brooks runs away) was taken from Mummy II, Brooks even looks like Anck-Su-Namun a bit. This was one of two things that didn't let that DLC be better. Second thing is that everybody kept referring the clone only as a clone, like it wasn't a person - even paragoniest of paragons Shepard, - which was oddly cold for the Shepard character as I came to see him/her through the story; nobody seems to realize that the clone was only 2.5 years old at best.
Other than this, and especially Party Time - yes, it was good.

First reaction: Hahahaha! And to think I'd heard the end of the 'reasons why Bioware ruined Mass Effect 3' threads.

After learning the true nature of Citadel: Oh. Hey. I can appreciate that.

People just need to relax and enjoy the dlc for what it is: a chance to have one last send off for our favorite characters.
Huh. I'm confused because I'm pretty sure they released something like that already. If I remember correctly, it was called Mass Effect 3.

The entire DLC is self-referential, tongue in cheek humor. The reveal of the villain just plays to the ridiculous evil twin (or clone) trope done in other sci-fi. People just need to relax and enjoy the dlc for what it is: a chance to have one last send off for our favorite characters. Here, just check out this video of a conversation you have with Grunt.

Agreed, it doesn't take itself that seriously, that doesn't make it any less worthwhile, in fact, I'd highly recommend it; it's genuinely funny and there are some great character moments.

This will either be the best DLC ever or the worst. Maybe I'll try it when I get home.

But yeah it sounds ridiculous on paper but it was really rather awesome IMO. The whole DLC was goofy, but for people who actually like the series, it was probably one of the best ways to finish it.
How is it implemented? Just random stuff thrown in throughout the main game or does it operate like a stand-alone DLC ala Deus Ex Human Revolution Missing Link? If it's throughout the main game, I think I'll have to wait until I feel up to a Mass Effect run through again. If it is its own standalone mission, I'll play it as soon as I can.

If it were part of the main game, it would be incredibly stupid. But it's not: this was a gag DLC about having fun with your mates and learning to love each other all over again. The clone thing is used to illustrate what Shepard would be like without his or her friends.

Again, it's dumb; it's so dumb it makes Kai Leng look like Hans Gruber. But that's kinda the point. Besides, at least it made a change of pace from Cerberus and the Reapers.

It's a stand-alone quest more or less. The party and all of the character interactions with squadmates happen after the main mission, and the people who are available are based on who you've met/helped so far. I think the last available person is Miranda, and you have to do the Sanctuary mission for that, but after that, everything should be available. Of course if you could care less about Miranda, the furthest you have to go is to recruit Tali, and that's a lot earlier.

Shepard is the best space mom ever. Hands down. XD

That just made my day, man. Thanks.

Side Question for all you people who have played it: What was your favorite line/gag/moment/whatever? I know there are so many good ones, but what stood out? Try not to spoil too much of it for the people who haven't played it though.

My favorite is during the Traynor chess match, and if you're dating her, your (renegade) Shepard will encourage her by saying, "Traynor, my shower is for winners." And then Traynor is like, "Ugh you are so not fair."

I found it hilariously cheesy and along with everything else involved with the companions banter, the party at the end, it was all worth it in my book.

This is officially the best DLC that ever was, it just has so much character. It's not able to save the ending of Mass Effect 3, but it is a far better way to say goodbye to the series than the actual ending. It's silly and dumb and it's absolutely amazing. The plot is pretty weak (it does have a lot of good one liners and dialogue for your active squad mates) but the character interactions are totally worth it, hell the party alone has a metric ton of content and it's highly variable.

And then later, they derive more metahumor from the fact that every single Cerberus project can be summarized as, "Cerberus does something. It breaks free and kills a lot of Cerberus guys." Including the Lazarus Project.

This becomes even more hilarious as you realize the name "cerberus" is an absurdly mismatched name for them.

For the metaphorical guardians of the prison containing the most dangerous products of humanity, they really suck at their job.
Cerberus is a perfect name for them, since they were originally meant to guard against invasion from the Charon relay (Charon being the ferryman of the Underworld).

It was both a good and a bad idea. It's bad because it really has no place in Mass Effect 3. It really feels like something cheap that doesn't tie into the plot of the game at all. The good thing about it is that it showed us how a Mass Effect game could handle a story that is smaller in scope, instead of having an all out galactic war. And I think that's what Bioware should do next with Mass Effect. New characters and a plot centered around those characters that has nothing to do with saving the world or the galaxy. Just something personal to the characters involved.

It was ridiculous, but that was okay, it didn't sell itself as anything else. The character interactions were great, but somehow I only ended up with less than half the companions showing up. I thought the playthrough I used had everyone around (note: I haven't actually checked what the requirements might be).

Speaking has someone who's played it, it's probably intentionally hilarious. And it was. The campiness was ramped up to 11, the humor was over 9000, this DLC by all means is a break from the po-faced demeanor of the game and a chance to make you smile. It's as if Joss Whedon wrote it or something, every other line of dialogue in it is begging for a wink at the camera. Trust me, it's A+ material.
Probably this.

I saw a video today where they had NPC's converse about their role in the N7 operations (which is in fact the multiplayer). It was all a tongue in cheek reference to players' complaints and behaviours, which probably explains why this DLC seems outrageously cheesy.

Innegativeion's quote and mine got mashed together. And I would add that you are both correct. It is a case of appropriate-then-hilarious-now.

And I was quite glad they weren't the villains in this DLC. A change of pace was nice. All the DLC so far has featured the existing antagonists and any excuse to mix it up is welcome.

to those who call this decision cheesy, ridiculous, laughable, stupid, and clichéd

I will say, as a fan of the DLC, it's all of the above, and the best part is, IT KNOWS IT

the DLC is basically Bioware giving up on sadness, doom and gloom, we've had enough of that, what this DLC is is FUN, having the villain be a ridiculous cartoon super villain with a ridiculous cartoon super villain origin story fits perfectly with that idea
