Hey, when girls and people other than 20 year old-some men start watching MLP, we'll be the ones who are laughing!

(Now I wait to see how many pony fans freak out >:D)

But in all seriousness, its not interlinked.
I didn't want to have to bring this out, but you leave me no choice.

I think there are a variety of reasons why people have jumped on the FiM banwagon.

The animation style is, in my appraisal, radically different from anime/manga styles. The story content does have some parallels between slice-of-life style anime/manga, but again, is more aligned with standard western children's show writing.

I think a lot of the show's appeal is its eyes-rolled-180-degrees-in-its-head moments of self-awareness, like in the shows where the characters will dis on a cringe-inducing musical number (that would have completely resolved the conflict in any other show).

The writing is also quite good, in that the characters react to situations like real people most of the time and not cardboard cut-outs who just do whatever the writers think will be easiest to get past the censors. It also helps that the storylines are lighthearted without becoming intolerably saccharine.

It also reminds me of another show that was strangely popular with adults a while back: The Teletubbies. I think it?s perfectly normal for adults to get sick of melodramatic soap operas, toothless sitcoms, and gritty crime dramas, and just want to indulge in a little bit of cutesy, unchallenging, fantasy, especially when there?s a nostalgia factor thrown in. This is the kind of stuff most 18-to-30 year-olds grew up watching, after all.
But, ultimately, these are just the things that I found appealing about the show. Trying to analyze it probably isn?t going to get you very far. Just remember; it's not like the fans of this show have something wrong with them:
Not embedding, for fear of Mod wrath.

... well, not all of them anyway. There's just something about FiM that resonates with them that doesn't resonate with you. Don't let it bother you.

Theres no theory about it, someone likes it, they suggest it to someone else, they suggest it to someone else, they suggest it to someone else and so on and so forth. I like the show, its a good show. If you don't like it, ignore it.

Actually, the stereotypical anime nerd wouldn't be comfortable watching my little pony. Watching and enjoying the show demonstrates confidence in one's masculinity.

why would an American show have anything to do with anime? the big eyes? they kinda stole that from us, actually
Just for the sake of proving you right, has anyone watched Lion king? Well look up a video or image of it, and look at young Simba's eyes. Looks sort of like the kind of eyes found commonly in Anime or Manga, don't they?

OP: I've so far only liked a few Anime shows and Manga books so far and so far I've quite liked MLP: FiM.

A better question would specify what kind(s) of Anime people enjoy and weather or not they enjoy My Little Pony.
Because when someone selects that they like MLP and Japanese anime/manga then you don't know weather it's a person who's a fan of Lucky star and all that more cutesy Anime stuff and My little Pony or weather the person is a fan of Elfien lied and Bleach and all that darker, bloodier stuff and My little Pony or even all of those things.

Its true. If you can walk around saying that you love mlp: fim, you are going to be more masculine and confident than if you went around hating it (easy way out).

I would say more confidence in ones feminine side is a more appropriate statement.

It -was- Lauren Faust's goal to make the show one both kids and adults would enjoy, so I say the shows hitting its target audience.

OH! And I like both quite equally. Anime and MLP: FiM, that is.

that, and there was a 'lion king' done in japan, first, with a white lion i THINK it was Kimba or something like that we totally stole it XD, nice catch though, but there's a LOT of back an forthing between the manga industry and Disney specifically

I gotta say, I don't feel feminine at all watching it. It's like if I was piloting a pink fighter jet. It may be pink but it's a GODDAMN FIGHTER JET. MLP may have all the trappings of a girl's show but it's a good show nonetheless. It'd be stupid to think the reason everyone is enjoying it so much is because it's girly.
