MLP is for pedophiles that hope to get some underage girls with their pony knowledge...

(Now I wait to see how many pony fans freak out >:D)

But in all seriousness, its not interlinked.

Really...?

I can guess how the rest of the bronies are going to react: strategic friendship strike.

Actually, the stereotypical anime nerd wouldn't be comfortable watching my little pony. Watching and enjoying the show demonstrates confidence in one's masculinity.

I would say more confidence in ones feminine side is a more appropriate statement.
I gotta say, I don't feel feminine at all watching it. It's like if I was piloting a pink fighter jet. It may be pink but it's a GODDAMN FIGHTER JET. MLP may have all the trappings of a girl's show but it's a good show nonetheless. It'd be stupid to think the reason everyone is enjoying it so much is because it's girly.
You could have had a valid statement with that fighter jet example. Only, this isn't a fighter jet, last time i checked, its a bunch of ponies. Now, last time I checked, ponies are nowhere near as badass as a fighter jet.

I'm a big fan of anime. I would go so far as to say I love anime. It's one of the few things in my life to hold my attention for a considerably extended amount of time(I'm ADHD, so sitting in one place to do something for a few hours on end is a really big deal). And while I don't enjoy MLP quite as much, Ii don't get as emotionally invested in the characters or stories, it's still a good show. I've had a few laughs, and I keep watching the next episode, but I don't think I'll quite miss it when it's over either.

You've got to be shitting me.

Not about the Anime nerds. Fuck em as far as I'm concerned.

But that you think liking MLP shows you're comfortable with your sexuality/masculinity?

The majority of people who watch it will do so because it's ironically popular.

And no matter how anybody tries to dissuade me on that point, it aint happening.

It's popular because it shouldn't be. The majority of people who are cramming that shows rainbow fart of meme's down everybodies throat are doing so because it's the new in thing to do.

Give it another six months and that festering pile of carebear spew will go the way of Spongebob.
I'm not going to lie, I started watching it just for the hilarious reactions I got when I told people I watch it. But it wasn't long before I realized I was actually enjoying it. What you say may be true at first, but before long the "I'm just watching because the memes are funny" excuse is just denial.

PS: The way of Spongebob means people stop watching it for a year because they think they outgrew it but then go back and marathon all the episodes because they realize it was part of the second greatest generation of cartoons they had the profound privilege of being raised by. One can only hope MLP ages as just as well.

Is it sad if a show about ponies is better written then the most high-budget, serious anime?

Im currently not tasting a foot, I am just witnessing a feminine, rainbow colored pony that happens to be flying. Nowhere near the awesomeness of a fighter jet. Maybe if it was a cyborg walrus or something, ya know, cool?

I only follow One Piece when it comes to Anime, wouldn't consider myself a huge fan of the anime genre though. I'm a bigger fan of Sci-Fi shows than I am of any other genre on TV.

I like MLP just because it's a fun show. I don't have a better way to explain it other than that. It's the not the art style or the animation (though the animation does shine through when a character has an epic mental breakdown...or Pinkie is on screen) nor is the voice acting or because I think it's got plots that work on multiple levels of maturity.

For me the show is fun, it's like a really good episode of Doctor Who; after awhile the plot doesn't really matter because I'm just along for the ride and by god I'm loving every second of it.

I just had another theory on why this show might be so popular. I can't believe I didn't think this before.

Think about it, we have so much terrible stuff on the internet, on tv, on pretty much anything. I won't draw a big list but I'm sure you understand what I'm saying.

Then you have My Little Pony, the purest form of anything. There's no violence (as far as I know), I've never seen anyone find a sexual reference, there's no type of swearing. Overall, it's pure. That's just something you don't see anymore, especially on the internet.

I just now performed a mental experiment by thinking about the Iron Man scene where Iron Man has a dogfight with two fighter jets. Then I replaced Iron Man with the pony. The results were highly informative. I'm not a fan of this show but even I have to go with Silk on this.

some like it some don't.

I'm on episode 13 trying to figure out why everyone on the escapist likes it soo damn much, So far nothing to answer that question. Not that its a bad show, but its nothing really revolutionary.

Anime/Manga is a medium, and it's silly to not like a medium, unless that medium happens to be urinal cakes. (your pee erodes the cake to reveal the later parts of the story.)

I just don't buy it. I watched half of the first episode. It's tripe.
You only nibbled on the hard shell determined not to believe in the cream filling underneath. You will be at a great disadvantage arguing against it unless you have seen enough to judge the show from a more informed perspective.

Abandon4093 said:
You're forgetting it's next stage.

After everyones been over enamoured by the show because they were in their teens and watching a kids show. It will fade back into obscurity and no one will give two flying farts about it.
I fail to see your point when comparing it to MLP. They're both good shows, people watch them, and you are in no position to claim otherwise. Are you saying you won't watch anything unless it's destined to become a classic?

Its true. If you can walk around saying that you love mlp: fim, you are going to be more masculine and confident than if you went around hating it (easy way out).
Would be a true statement. If not for the fact that everybody and their dog seem like that show.

You're pretty much bulletproof if you profess to liking that show and vomit out a load of ridiculous friendship memes.

You catch more flak for saying you don't like it.

So I'd say your comment shoulda done a 180 with it's subject matter really.
Only everyone on the internet. Out in the real world, you get tons of flak for liking it.
