To trackball users, how does it work with FPSs in terms of accuracy, reaction time and so on?
And to whomever mentioned not needing a mouse pad for a trackball, there's never been a need for one for optical/laser mice either. The pad is only needed for the ball mice. Optical mice will work on practically any surface and at any angle, same as trackball.
The track ball has one of the best reaction time out of any mouse. Since you are using less of your hand it requires less energy to move it over quick enough. As for accuracy let's just say that it is hard aiming and making a sudden turn at the same time but it is really good for tracking moving targets through a sniper scope.

I use a cheap laptop mouse plugged to a rig that can run Crysis 2 on highest settings.

Another logitech G5 user here, love that thing. Sometimes think it could use another thumb button, but I can't see myself changing it.

My housemate got a Razer naga recently and I like it a lot, but still doesn't feel as natural (obviously because I've not used it as much as my G5) and not enough benefits for me to 'upgrade'. Either way I think I'll be sticking to a wired laser for the near future, just can't get the reliability and response from wireless

While we're on the subject of mice/input devices I am intrigued by the <a href=http://www.razerzone.com/minisite/hydra>Razer hydra but I'll see what happens with games supporting it and general opinion after it's been out for a while.

I use a wireless mouse. (I suppose that's plenty of flame fuel as it is but hey, I'm committed to this idea)

Now, while I can't say that my mouse is one hundred per cent reliable (when the reciever's plugged into the front panel or I'm running off rechargeables it has been known to forget it exists from time to time), I *can* say it's never been a problem. Why?

Because it isn't a gaming mouse or any of that crap. No, I'm talking about a fairly standard Logitech one. (MX620, they don't make them any more sadly) As such, it's reliable (provided I plug the reciever into my keyboard), the batteries last for months (and warn you that they're running out about a month in advance), the thing itself for years (because say what you like about logitech, their input devices might as well be made out of titanium), it's got all the controls I actually need on it, it's comfortable in my hand (meaning it doesn't fuck my wrist up during protracted sessions), no worries about the cable getting caught (on my desk a considerable concern) and it's got all the sensitivity and precision that I actually need.

About the only thing my mouse doesn't have that would be nice is the darkfield tracking stuff so I could use it on any surface. It cost me £20. I've had it for three years and it's still going strong.

(As an aside, Razor products do seem to be uniformly buggy: I bought a Lycosa, and while it was kinda nice, it had this annoying habit of (in the middle of a game) forgetting that I might want to input a new command so just sent whatever it had been sending when it went of the rails)

I really don't know which one I have, it probably is one that came with the computer. It's a standard, plug-in, ambidextrous mouse with the mouse wheel and the right and left click buttons. Incredibly simple, incredibly effective.

Cyborg Rat 5, Laser wired mouse. I am in love with both the mouse and keyboard. V7 Cyborg Keyboard, So I naturaly went for the Mouse.

I am left handed and dont get fanatical about MMOs so extra numpad on my mouse pointless. My keyboard however have twelve extra macro buttons. so if i need them i can macros them.

The rats precision aim button and back and forth buttons are just usable for me. Anything else were the thumb should be is impossible. It has a Left and right scroll wheel (i am still to figure how to get it to work) but its hard for me to use on my left hand i can use it if i figure a good use for it in game.

So i have had too many cheap mice that are too small or the laser is crap. I decided id get a decent mouse and i am not fanatical about the Razer brand to sink double the price i baught the rat for and the Razer is just nice. Had a friend buy the Naga pvping in WOW raged smashed the mouse down a little hard. Broke, £120 done the drain. So it does sound like a good mouse with cats that keep knocking things around.

Currently using Razer Naga [http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.169418900/categoryId.35208800], so laser mouse, with cord, and more buttons than gamepad. I started using laser mouses about 12 years ago, my previous was wireless Logitech but it started eating thorugh batteries way too fast after 3 years so i switched to my current toy.
Since most of my gaming time i spend in MMOs the additional keybinds are helpful.
Hmm I wanted to ask, don't you feel a lil bit OP using this mouse?><
I mean keyboard with macro just saves time but this feels like using the keyboard only to move or some basic keys.
I have pretty standard keyboard and got very addicted to additional mouse buttons over the years, for me it's just easier to use mouse-over macros that way while keyboard is used for more "oh shit" buttons. Since in EQ-clones (yes im so hip i refuse to use "WoW-clone" term) i usually play healer/support classes it just lets me interact with raid/party frames much more smoothly... and most importantly let's me hold a glass or cigg in the other hand (bad, baaad addictions). With the amount of abilities you can get in those games, fitting everything on keyboard can sometimes be quite troublesome.
It works surprisingly well in games like Eve Online too, all my ship modules are bound to mouse and i can smack talk people on chat as i shoot 'em!

I have a few that click about 30 times in a second, which make crafting stuff in Minecraft so much faster.
you should try searching for "convenient inventory" mod for minecraft. much easier than having a "turbo" button.

I got my corded lazor mouse by accidentally ordering the "deluxe" package deal on my msi laptop. I dont really care about my mice that much, i just want them to have buttons for my thumb, and to not fail.
I can't seem to get mods to work, they all give me a black screen when I start up, besides the HD texture pack thing...

I use a microsoft sidewinder wired mouse. I love it. I turn my DPI up to 3000 and barely have to move. Open up the scope and flick of my finger sets me to 1000 DPI (I can set it differently, but it works for me). The thumb buttons are in the best placement I have ever had on a mouse. The only qualm I have with this mouse is that it is ugly as sin.

Razer Mamba, and I love it. Best mouse I've ever used. It's awesome and very handy being able to change between wired and wireless with no performance degradation.

A 3-button wireless mouse by PC Line. Not bad. At least, it does the job alright and doesn't use up batteries very quickly. My keyboard on the other hand is like a hyperactive child in a skittles factory.

Bare high speed laser mouse with nothing but L + R mouse clicks and a good ol' fashion mouse wheel. The simplest mouses are the best imo, nothing to distract you from the action.
