Opposition leader Tony Abbott has come out
Oh really?

Oh, you don't mean THAT way...that would certainly put a spin on things.

But yeah, no-one should tell you what you can and can't do with your own life. They can only warn you of the consequences. Politicians in general have just got a dose of the crazy stick recently and want to tell you how they'd run their lives, if only they hadn't already screwed it up by going into politics.

Speaking as a Christian Australian... I don't give two shits about what women do or don't want to do in their own (or others) bedrooms. Its their choice and there's to make.

But in his defence, he is saying that's the advise he'd give his daughters, not the country, and if I'll be honest if I have daughters I reckon I'll be giving them the same advice (as well as waving a shotgun or machette in the face of any bloke who even looked at them funny). Whether they heed my advice is another matter altogether.
yea i'm with this guy

Edit: but not Christian

Hm, I believe there is a hidden agenda here.

A woman losing her virginity usually involves a partner.
This partner can be either male or female (or both, in the rarest of cases).

Therefore, we can conclude the following:
(1) Women are excluded from having sex with women.
(2) Women are excluded from having sex from men.

Now, if we view the sex situation for men, in light of this second conclusion, it is clear that men will be equally unable to have sex with women, this leaves only one gender for them to have sex with.

Considerations on this issue raises the following question:

Is Tony Abbott endorsing male homosexuality?

At the very least some women (or some girls rather) should wait a little longer before making such an emotional commitment. Deny it all you want but sex is NOT just a physical act.

The quote has a nice romantic touch to it. But waiting before marriage is an outdated train of thoughts
Wrong.
Yes it is.
It is out-dated. Morals and values change with the times and the majority of people don't wait till marriage till sex because sex is a healthy part of a relationship. If you can wait till marriage, power to you.

Nope, it's not a big deal. Just let people lose it when they want. What about the women that don't want to get married? What about women that would maybe like a sex life.

In short-
You've gotta test the car before you buy it.

Good way to put it.
+1 - And don't get me started on all the Schools that only teach abstinence, not contraception. That's just batshit crazy.

I would also like it to be known that this is only my opinion, and I'm not trying to force it onto others, since I'm not an Australian politician.

He didn't say anything about technical virginity.

You know what's interesting? They never say this shit to the men. It's always the women who have to keep their ever so sacred virginity, as if God isn't everywhere but only lives in the hymen. But, yeah, the idea that we're still having this debate makes me sad.

Well, may be that's why he created the Pussy Troll...

Props if you get the quote...

Just what we need, a hard core, conservative, Catholic as our potential Prime Minister.

I'm just surprised that he didnt come out and say that "women are just uncovered pieces of meat"...

(Before you banhammer me, just check out that reference.)

This thread is so very one-sided it is ridiculous.

I for one applaud Tony Abbott and hope that more people follow his stance on morality.

We waited.

While personally I am waiting for marriage, that's my own personal choice. Maybe other women don't want to wait. Let people lose their virginity when they want to.

I already practically do that to any guy who dates my little sister. Yes, I am rather overprotective when it comes to my baby sister.

It's a little annoying to know that most brides are walking to the alter wearing white when you know they aren't "pure" but I wont stop any body wearing what they what or doing what they want 'cos it doesn't even matter, there are much bigger problems to be worrying about than this.

It's the "in thing" to lose your virginity before you leave high school. The funny thing is, there are girls who will practically force themselves upon you and then whine that guys don't respect them afterwards.

I think he has a point, if you want real attention and respect from a guy, just hold off on the sex and if he agrees to wait for you then yeah. But then again, despite protests I think it's safe to say that women want sex as much as men do these days. Not that they didn't before, it's just a less taboo topic.

In other news: I'm prescient. I just knew upon hearing this story earlier that the Escapist would be talking about it. The opposition leader of a country with ~21 million told an interviewer for Women's Weekly what his advice to his own daughters on sex would be and an international gaming forum is talking about it. That indicates as much about The Escapist's mores as Tony Abbott's comments do his.
And no I don't support his views.

No. Unless there's another "Abbott's lovechild" story I haven't heard.
