Where is the "other" option?
Because I mix it all up, I'll go completely casual on some games and hardcore on others and sometimes the retro fever gets me and I'll replay a whole batch of oldies.
Me too.

Casual gamer. I don't do many of the bejeweled and other similar games, but I don't play obsessively. I'm decent at games, I got to the level cap of (I think, it's been a while since I've stopped playing) 60 in Bioshock 2's multiplayer in about four days by completing challenges like a fiend.

I find games that I like and stick to them. I'll play them for hours and hours, but not generally more than an hour or so at a time.

What a load of tosh, this is the thread of an inexperienced person. Casual gamers are not predominantly female
While I'll agree that the OP's catagories are more than a bit stereotyped, "casual games" as the industry defines them are played by more women then men. And I mean women-- average age is in the forties. 4 realz:

And the average game buyer is in his 30s. Factor in the kid's whose parents bought them the games, and the average is still 29 years old. Gamers are still mostly male, but less and less so-- 2004 industry survey found that the demographic was 59% male:

These are industry studies, ordered up by those who will be wagering millions of dollars on the next game.

Point being, the videogame audience is far far more diverse and non-stereotypical than most might believe. Six or seven catagories? Heh. Try a hundred or so microdemographics.

Im more than casual but less than hard core, which Is were is suspect that most of us on the escapist really fall. We love gaming enough to be called GAMERS, but it realy isnt our sole oppsession.

Somewhere between "Casual" and "Hardcore." I don't have a lot of time or money to play any games competitively, and it's mostly as a way to relax for me. However, I'm good at most of the games I play just because that's how I have fun - I don't see the point in deliberately being bad at something you do for fun, just to avoid some arbitrary label of not having a life. My interest in the gaming industry and cultures can be described as more than casual, as well.

Hardcore. I do tournaments and I do play until I master a certain game so that is where I'd fit in best.

Fair enough, my personal definition of casual gamers is slightly different. My knee jerk anger has left me now, leaving me shake my head. Unless you are in marketing there should be no need for any of these categories.
