I use them because I don't want to miss anything, turns out the voice doesn't always match the subtitle.

Same here, though my main reason for disabling them was the sheer amount of dialogue. Usually, it doesn't disturb me being done with reading a line of dialog before the character is, but in Mass Effect, it kind of ruined my experience.
