The interview with Uwe Boll I read on the escapist changed my opinion of him from loathing to magnanimous tolerance. I say he deserves the niche he has repeatedly carved for himself, B-Movies with actors and budgets it seems absurd that they got.
You know what the real problem with Uwe Boll's movies is? everyone on the internet thinks they have a degree in filmography, just watch the movies without any preconceived notion about Uwe boll, they're cheesy but they're actually kind of fun, Postal was the first of his movies I saw, it was actually pretty damn good.
The man is a very interesting person and a pretty bloody good boxer, and his movies aren't as awful as people say, most of you people have only seen maybe one of his movies, I bet a lot of you haven't seen any of them.
People assume that if their favourite property is done in a different way than the original version that the end product is shit (see fallout 1 & 2 vs fallout tactics & 3) the end product can be GOOD, it's just not what YOU would have done if you wrote it yourself, because YOU just want more of the same.
PS the Mario Brothers movie was classic 90s cheese but it was still quite good

i think its one of those things. If he wasn't making money out of it he wouldn't do it. and he is clearly making some hype out of every film or this thread wouldn't exist. It's one of those things that even though it's bad we're gonna go watch it or w/e because we know it's bad and want a reason to say so. Boll is either a madman or a genius and somewhere along the line he;s become so well known for crappy films based on games that people actually watch his films!!

Alone in the Dark: I started the movie bored, ended bored.
Blood Rayne: I started the movie interested, got to the middle bored, ended up disturbed. (random violent sex scene anyone?)

His films DO make money... surprising I know but:
The tax thing, he is fairly well funded
Rights to video games are pretty cheap to acquire (well, they are when it such high quality titles as bloodrayne) so the majority of his films cost very little to make (name of the king notwithstanding, seriously though RAY LIOTTA??)
Most of his films are straight to video, big market there nowadays, plus minimal cost (no advertising, distribution etc. Plus critics wont have as much chance to point out the obvious failings eg quality)
Rabid videogame fans will apparently watch anything related to their favourite subject (I did make the mistake of seeing Doom in the cinema, although, it was actually pretty damn funny)

At least 90% of gamers who criticize him haven't even seen one single fucking movie of his. I'm not saying he's making good movies, I'm just saying most people don't know a damn thing.

Mr. Boll's movie making power lies on that single fact that he is sponsored by Germany. That said loophole. And no, he didn't figured it out by himself, people put him there for a reason.
As far as business is concerned, ANY popularity is popularity.
Just think about it, there is no movie enthusiast or gamer on Earth, who doesn't know Uwe "Movie Killer" Boll. By making these outrageously horrifying movies, more and more people will watch them for all the wrong reasons. And as any controversial celebrity out there, he gets fame and fortune for all the wrong reasons, too. And no, he won't stop. Why should he? He is widely popular, he gets a sick amount of dosh to make movie disasters, and he brings home fat stacks of cash for all this. I don't say I agree with him, but I understand...
