She's annoying as hell, voiced by a giggling moron, she goes way beyond the line between being upbeat and just being downright insane and her eidolon fight was the most obnoxious of the lot.

Are you guys all talking about her English voice here? Cause if not I'm slightly confused lol.

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree with you on her English VA sucking, but this thread is about the real Vanille, not just some dub of her...and the real Vanille was a joy to listen to.
For all I know the Japanese voice actor's delivery is atrocious, I'm not qualified to comment on her performance because I have no clue if she's even delivering her lines correctly. So yes my response is about the Vanille who I'm capable of giving an opinion on.

Love her, her voice actor was Nia from Gurren Lagann (Japanese version) so I was instantly attracted to her genki mannerisms.
That makes a lot of sense, though she sounded pretty different to me.

Since you brought up Gurren Lagann, I'd like to point out that Snow and Kamina are pretty much the same character archetype with the same purpose. At the beginning of the story, horrible things happen to them and the people they care about because of their immature attitudes of wanting to play the hero. But as the story progresses, the audience see's that heroes are necessary. For Snow, his recklessness is tempered by the adventure and he gains a new inner strength from his dedication to finding a way to bring back Serah. For Kamina, his example inspires the heroes that end up saving the world. Different resolutions, but similar character arcs.
Nia was an ojousama character, she spoke with ultra polite idioms, Vanille is a genki type character so she's quite a bit more casual. Still her voice had a soft throatyness about it which I found endearing.

Snow was a shonen protagonist who is treated realistically. He doesn't become super sayan and gets rewarded for his way, instead he gets beaten down into an improved form.

He kind of gets rewarded for his shounenness. That's how he unlocks his summon. And his attitude toward the Fal'Cie is pretty much "Let's just go punch them in the face!" Which is ultimately a successful strategy.

I didn't really mind her, truth be told. I was kinda surprised at how much hate she got, but then again, I suppose I should've expected it given all the hate FFXIII got overall.

I don't think having her in a language a very, very small amount of us can understand makes her a "fake" version.
If all we have is subtitles, aren't we basically back to the days of the text box?

Either way, I liked her, voice and all. It got a little annoying every now and again, but she's dim and ridiculously happy. It suited her.
I think the main reason I liked her was because she cancelled out Hope's constant ANGST!
Since she was my major medic my first time through XIII, her holding my party up after my dumb ass let them go down every 10 minutes probably adds to the positive opinion I have.
Like all media, the real version is the original version.

Just because people wouldn't understand it won't make something original or true magically into something unoriginal and untrue. It's certainly a correct economical idea but economics as well have nothing to do with who a character in what they sell actually is and sounds/acts like.

Subtitles work for movies just fine, people don't feel like they're watching a silent movie when they watch subtitled movies, the same goes for videogames. Unless you're one of those firm believers that gamers are inferior to movie fans and can't read because it's too much work for their fun or simply are too bad at reading to keep up with a movie's subs, you should agree with me.
Original =! real.

Both versions are 'real' as both exist, also it was fully reanimated (as far as mouth movements go) for the language change, so both are true versions, non more officially than the other.
e.g. Ready salted crisps were the original, so s&v aren't real crisps?

OT She annoyed the hell out of me with her happy go lucky attitude, much as Penelo, Rikku, Selphie and Yuffie did.

Kinda, she was better once she'd found some WD40 and her voice got less squeaky.

She's also by far the best debuffer in the game.

I hate the cutesy, high-pitched girl stereotype found in almost every JRPG. So my dislike for Vanille was almost immediately apparent. Heck, I think the only characters I really liked were Sazh and Fang. Lightning was okay, but everyone else could really have spoken much less and I would've been happier.

Characters of XIII i liked: Sazh, Fang.
Characters of XIII i hated: Vanille, Hope (I swear the only reason any person would bring that brat along anywhere is to use as a meatshield...and even then I'm sure he'd find some way to fuck that up)
Characters of XIII I'm indifferent to: Snow (Granted, he's an impulsive idiot..but he's more tolerable then Tidus and Vaan), Lightning (Dunno, just don't really care much for her but don't hate her either).

Sorry if this is off-topic - could you have the option to use the Japanese dubs or was English version solely with English dub?

Snow, Vanille, and Hope were my team. In the theme of naming paradigms, I called this threesome "Summer Camp."

Only one I didn't like was Lightning and her constant whining. I like her armor in the upcoming sequel though.

Hope was a whiny little brat at the start, but at least I warmed up to him.

I didn't play enough to see her character in depth, but every word she speaks causes me great pain, so I'm leaning towards "Bad but not as much as Hope" side.

Third worst charecter in video game history. Second is hope from the same game and first is thing from Zelda that won't STFU. "HEY! LISTEN!"

The Japanese one is no dub, it's the original.

Sadly, due to 360 space limitations and the desire to have the games be the same on both systems, they couldn't do the dual audio format like some other games have (Valkyria Chronicles, Disgaea, etc. etc.) so it only had English. There is however a Chinese limited edition which has Japanese voices and the choice between multiple subs, of which one is the English subs.

I imported the Japanese version of the game purely to get the original actual characters and game and not a dub of it, a dub aimed at an American/western market that doesn't really know a lot of Japanese culture or anime culture which actually is in these games in mass amounts. (in their Japanese versions that is) I understood everything too which is a nice affirmation of my studying the language for all these years really paying off :p.

She was better than Hope.

Anyone is better than Hope.

I was hoping that he'd turn into a Ci'Eth (or however you spell it) so I could personally take part in his downfall.

I know the Japanese dub is the original, what I asked was whether or not it was included with the English version :>

However thanks for the confirmation.
