Tau.

They're smart and they do a hell of a lot of damage considering their numbers and gear.

Seriously, put Humans, 'Nids, all the races in a VERY big room and Tau would be like...less than a hundredth of one percent.
They would be, but they would also be off to the side shooting down anything coming too close and waiting for the others to burn themselves out.

Also, Hive Fleet Gorgon fluff is my favorite due to the rates at which the 'nids and Tau adapted to each other time after time.

Cannot believe you didn't include Imperial Guard as a votable choice, so dissapointed. :p
I know. I picked the common ones and those that came to mind first, but there are just so many armies and so few poll selections. :(

AHHA! Thanks. Figured I was missing something, and I am inclined to blame little sleep, 2:30am, and a fully work day behind me... but that would require too much work.
Eh, blaming it on sleep-deprivation and a long day at work seems the way to go.

My first army was Space Wolves! I was in love with them for years :p

Also... DEATH TO THE FALSE EMPEROR!

/cough
I'm only a recent convert to the Wolves, but I've been a follower of the Sisters of Battle for years now. They really, really need to work on another Codex for them and the Grey Knights. They're not quite as outdated as the Dark Eldar were, but they're still bloody old.

Also... SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!
My first army was a Chaos Space Marines one. 3rd edition Abaddon with his instant-kill sword was a nasty piece of work to unleash against my mates HQ choices.

Tau! They are the underdog, just coming into the WH40k universe. They don't understand half the stuff that's going on around them, just figuring things out as they go along. But they have big guns, big battlesuits and one hell of a ideology. In fact, theirs is likely the most benevolent agenda in the universe at the moment, seeing as they are the only race that doesn't consider genocide to be an integral part of warfare. Also, did I mention the really big guns? :)
It could be argued that whilst the Tau don't commit actual, physical genocide, their policies are akin to cultural genocide. It's join them and convert to their belief in the Greater Good, or die at the hands of their Fire Warriors.

They are all so much fun!

I must have at least a 3K army of every race XD

Now I just need those sexy new Dark Eldar models...
Sweet Zombie Jesus, and i thought I was bad with my Forge World Problem...
Started with Eldar years ago (fuck starting with Marines, in at the deep end!). Then moved to Wolves, and have happily stayed there since. Building an full strength Great Company, long project.

This fluff is proof that the Tau cannot compare to might of humanity. It took one engagement for the Hive Fleets to resist Pulse fire. Over 2 centuries of war with the Imperium and the nids are yet to find a way to resist .75 caliber aspirin:)

Heh, my marine buddy refers to me and my Tau buddy as "the filthy zenos".
And he's quite right.

Sounds like a Hive Tyrant that is set up to pummel anything in melee. First game, missed the "monstrous creature" special rule, and was borderline depressed about a tyrant entering melee with a dreadnought. Second game, one-shot a vindicator tank with a single zoantrope, and learned exactly how lethal genestealers are.

Either the Tau or IG armoured infantry.

Ordnance rules 40K, it's not great balancing but honestly I do not mind.
Now see if you can reach my Basilisks before the Basilisks reach out and touch you...

I shudder when I think about how much I have put into my little army. And there is only so much you can do against a supersonic rain of metal bits coming from everywhere. Though a 2+ save and regeneration sure do help a lot.

While it can be argued that way, that still leaves them as a whole lot better option than anyone else in that universe. They aren't spotless, but they are damn well friendlier than any of the other races, Imperium of Man included.

Thats a pretty awesome way of putting it, I bet if 40k were 50k than by this point everything other than Tau is dead, and Tau would go in and inherit everything they left behind.
'Course all they get is thousands of planets wrecked by centuries of warfare but thats not the point : D.

I'm a bit of a WH40k noob, I've never actually played the TT game but I play the Dawn of War series and read about 40k online, I know about Hive Fleet Kraken and the sort of unknowing teamup the Space Marines and Eldar had, but I didnt know that the 'nids and Tau had a bit a...confrontation.

The idea of a Fire Warrior team on a hill gunning down endless swarms of Tyranids is made of awesome.

Someone should make a game of that, just shooting 'nids for like 15 days. It would be EPIC.

There is a ton of fluff on each of the races and most of it is downright awesome. Like the single zoanthrope that brought down an ENTIRE eldar craft world?

Everything you ever wanted to know about 40k ever.

Also, pics of the genestealer models I have.

Sort of, but he was far deadlier than a monstrous creature. Abaddon was immune to Instant Death, with a 4+ Ward save, and he made one special attack each round with his sword. If it hit, the model was instantly wounded with no armour save allowed, and if it failed its ward save it died outright. And if he hit a vehicle with it, he inflicted an automatic Penetrating Hit.

Well, all the races have good reason to be on bad terms with one another. The Emperor united all of Mankind when pretty much every single alien race in the universe was attacking them and trying to wipe them out.

HOLY EPIC WINSAUCE BATMAN!

Woah that sites cool, just reading about Gorgon is a little funny.
You know they're desperate when they start scavenging Kroot rifles.

And those Genestealers are awesome.
Also I heard somewhere the 'nids are supposedly being chased out by something much, much worse than they are.
Thats like freakin' scary, but not so much in a 'Rawrr big monster comin to getcha' way, but in a more intellectual 'Everything you know will be EATEN' way.

Kraken wasn't unknowing teamup, given as how Iyanden turned up to help mop up on Ichar IV. The Tau only exist because of the Tyranids diverting Imperial forces away from them. The Tau empire is tiny in the galactic stage, smaller than an Imperial Sector, the only reason they are still around is that Imperial forces have bigger fish to fry (Hive Fleets, Orks, etc). Even then, the Imperium has faced worse stuff than the Hive Fleets before, it;s just a pity the writer are forgetting this.

Outflanking Genestealers are your friend. Also the Tyrant power (forget the name), which makes an enemy unit BS1 (and WS1) for a turn, I really hate that power.

Space Marines and Guard here (with a few Inquisition, Sisters and Grey Knights as occasional allies).
