I actually prefered Dragon Age 2 to the original, actually. I didn't even mind Anders hitting on me, because I played my Hawke as gay.

You are never the only one, even when it's demonic yaoi gundam child tentacle rape you are still never the only one.

And DA2 was chewed over so many times I feel silly commenting.

Well see if I want to play Mass Effect I'll go play Mass Effect. I wanted this game to be like Dragon Age: Origins, and from what I've seen so far it really isn't. The one good thing about the game is the amount of party member interaction. Still, it would be better if half your party wasn't either whiny (Anders) or incredibly stupid (fucking Merril).

I thought it was good, but Origins had a much more fulfilling story to me, and DAII just didn't hold my interest as long as Origins did, but I certainly don't think that it deserves all the hate it's gotten. People bash it the way Yahtzee bashed Kane and Lynch 2. (which totally deserved it)

I will admit the plot itself is a bit disjointed, and the three acts have little to do with one another, though.

Also, there's the fact that we stay in Kirkwall for 90% of the game, but really, I didn't mind that at all while I was playing it. I really like city settings in games anyway.
Dragon Age 2 was an excellent game. It is one of the best games made in recent years.

As you say, the combat and dialog options were MUCH better than DA:O. Also, I liked the characters just as well or better than DA:O.

The main thing Origins had going for it was the expansive, epic story. DA2 was a much smaller story. It was about setting events into motion, rather than resolving things. Some people don't like that.

Actually, honestly, the main issues with DA2 was the fact that it is basically a giant trailer for Dragon Age 3. It suffers from the same issue as Iron Man 2 - it's mostly setting up the story for the next installment in the franchise.

I really liked Dragon Age 2 as well. It had its faults but I liked the storytelling, I liked the framed narrative and I enjoyed the interactions with companions. Not a perfect game, no, but then Origins had serious faults too.

A lot of people have complained that they didn't find the story sufficiently epic, but I liked that - too many games (including BioWare games) have that supposedly epic Gather Your Forces And Defeat The Big Bad plot. I enjoyed the change of pace I genuinely found the decisions you have to make towards the end of the game compelling.

I'm of the opinion that it was better than Origins. Sure there were some issues but it had so much more going for it.

I'm going to be that guy and say that I liked this better than the first. It had it's problems, sure. Like someone said earlier, all of the dungeons had the air of the clone brush about them but at the same time it made things helpful. Familirarity allowed you to cut down on travel time and by the time you were done you could do it backwards. Unlike the Deep Roads of Origins where the map was opened 20 times to make sure this corridor isn't leading you to where you started.

Also, having read damn near nothing about the game before I started playing it forced me to continue to find out where the story was taking me as there was an ambiguous end point. In Origins you knew you were supposed to kill a dragon and end the blight a few minutes into the game. In DA2 it was get the fuck out of Lothering and start living your life. I knew the mage/templar issue and the Chantry/Qunari issue was going to come to a head but it never said that was your reason for being. I enjoyed the not knowing of my purpose. Minus Fenris' disapproval of every fucking thing I did I loved the characters.

I liked it. It wasn't stellar but it was nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. Quite enjoyable but not as high a standard as the first. Combat, dialogue system and character interaction, derived statistics being shown, items ranked against current level all improvements.

It's nothing like Origins, which is my main disappointment. They called Origins a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate and it wasn't. It played like an MMO, but I rather liked what they were going for. I wanted them to expand on it, not change it completely. Instead they derailed it with 2 in my opinion, and while there is some enjoyment to be had, I think Origins was just a better realized game.

I liked it. Just not as much as Origins. The world was smaller in general, and some of the tweaks to the system I just did not like. But no, you aren't the only one who liked it. That being said, I LOVE Bianca(Don't tell Varric...)

No you don't. As there are at least 5 other people who made the exact same post as you.

And I quite liked it. I was disappointed though.

I liked it, but only because I didn't buy the hype.

The concept was cool: following the evolution of a character and a city for 10 years. However, it fell a bit short of being great.

It was fun in places- the combat was good, especiialy at higher difficulties and the class trees were awesome (reavers are just flat out FUN to play as) but the graphics were lazy, the ending diabolically bad and you were so railroaded it was stupid.
The game was an underdone sloppy mess, like it by all means but dont gloss over its numerous flaws.

The internet has taught me I'm NEVER the only one...in anything.

And here it's proven yet again. I liked DAII better than Origins. Mostly because the story of origins was...so ridiculously long for one single game, and I just couldn't bear myself to play it again when my HDD died on me.

I'll still admit it had issues. Then again, most games have issues.
I despise the dialogue wheel, (though DAII did it better than ME imo,) and the combat was rather weirdly implemented. (Leveling up makes you worse, DLC items becomes worthless in level...7 or so.)

The story felt like a trick or prank, because the choices, or more precisely the consequences of choices were non-existent. I honestly thought the game was over at the end of Act II. then suddenly...what? It's still going on?

I liked the game though, and I've played it more than origins. But it feels...unfinished (for instance, there are no genlocks...at all!)

My thoughts, were they worth something? I dunno, you decide

Tons of people liked it. The people who didn't are just more vocal. Not that I can't see why they hate it, it's just that the things that killed the game for them didn't do so for me. I like it as much as Origins (which I'm playing through again currently).

I just hated the ending.

Edit:
Did they re-use the "mystical" male voice actor from Origins for Fenris? I just noticed that this playthrough that he sounds like Fenris. I hate that voice. He sounds like a pompous and constipated parrot.

Are there?
Hmm. Perhaps I should learn to use the search bar.

Ah well. I am genuinely surprised that there are so many people who liked it; I guess we're a little less vocal compared to its' detractors.

If you think of it as a parody you can actually enjoy the "storyline", especially the hilariously bad ending that is just beyond any logic. Or when you throw fireballs around the city and a templar who sees you gives you a quest that involves killing mages because ... f you that's why. Or when you visit the same cave for eighteenth bazzilionth time. Yeah, I prefer to think of this game as an indie parody of Dragon Age Origins.

Only one thing was interesting in the game. The combat, it was 1 step forward and the one step backward. The faster pace was welcome, but it removed a lot of tactical options.
