I really want it to be good. But its one of those things that I can't picture going too well on the big screen, plus I'm not too thrilled that they dumbed down the ending. But either way we've all still got the book, that's all that matters man.

I'm just wondering why the cast is getting so much lip from round these parts? valid some of them are former child actors ( Jackie Earl Hayley who coincidentally was nominated an Oscar for best supporting actor in Little Children) and others started out in television (Jeffery Dean Morgan whose 'stached mug bears a resemblance to The Comedian even without Hollywood magic) but really what is it about these guys nobody likes about them?

To tell you the truth so far I'm impressed most by Matthew Goode who plays Ozymandias. For an English 26-8 year old he looks and sounds like an American 40 something

Thanks to the TC's choice of films for comparison this thread is weak. Just because Super-man Returns didn't double it's budget does not make it "suck". It was still praised by critics, and a very notable cinematic achievements for comic book films. Thanks to morons complaining, WB, and DC are now going to try and reboot the franchise with a "darker" tone. Super-Man is not Bat-man, and his character is meant to inspire hope. I love how before SM:Returns came out everyone was talking about how similar it needs to be to the first 2, then when they got their wish their wants went into the opposite spectrum.

I see a very similar pattern emerging for Watchmen. All the hardcore fans want it similar to the books, while the illiterate complain about how "Golden age", and "corny" it looks. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, AND STOP PRE-JUDGING FILMS, YOU ARE ONLY SCREWING YOURSELF!

Dumbed down the ending?

*spoilers!!!!!*
By not having a giant dead squid appearing to attack in the middle of New York? I know that is how the book ends, but that is just silly. The rumored ending certainly will achieve a much more somber tone, and leave less of a chance for an unintentional laugh fest.

I'm underwhelmed by the trailers. I'm just not that into dumbed down dialog. Actually, every time I hear that "Do it for me" line I think of Alan Moore spinning in his future grave. And if this is what's supposed to draw me in, I fear the worst has yet to come.

The Watchmen movie will certainly not live up to the hype, but if you really think about it, the book is hardly a piece of perfection. Moore works incredibly hard for 150 pages to build up these ordinary people trapped by extraordinary circumstances, just to drop a deuce like "oh, yeah, there are real life psychics with freaky mind powers too" in the last 50 pages. Give me a break. Seems like the editors wanted to spice things up, but of course that made too many cooks in the kitchen.

I'm of two minds on the outcome of this debate: I hope the film is good because I would like to be entertained and avoid the inevitable fanboy rage that would come from a flop. On the other hand, I have a feeling that it's going to flop because I feel that Snyder's style doesn't suit the subject, the hype machine has been burning too high for too long, and the story that seems to be the backbone of the film shouldn't need two and a half hours to tell.

considering how labyrinthine the book is. Yes, it does why else would there be a 3 hour and 40 minute DVD coming out?

Zack Snyder is not Quentin Tarantino and he is definitely not Christopher Nolan.

"300" was an action movie, not a character driven drama.

This is where we'll reach an impasse, you and I.

Rarely do film adaptations of books contain every detail of the book. The main story of the film, by what the trailer features, seems to be more focused on the Blake murder. So, they could drop the Hollis Mason sub-plot, for example.

As for the story being labyrinthine, well, that's for the reader to decide. I found the story linear, but rich (that is to say there are plenty of complex characters with murky backgrounds and extensive use of symbolism).

As for creating a longer cut, that's certainly to get fans of the film more of what they want (or more cynically, to pry more money out of their hands). For people who walk into the theatre though, this extended cut won't matter because they won't be seeing it. Hopefully, the regular theatrical cut will be enough to tell the story without needing any extra material.

I'm trying to not get my hopes up. Last time I did that with a film(Quantum of Solace) they were dashed. Just going to wait watch it, probably hate it. I find that the first time I watch a film I always judge it rather harshly, especially on the big screen where the sound always seems to be off a bit.

Probably take a few screenings or the DVD release for me to start to like it, picky person that I am. I need to get deflate my expectations before I can enjoy a film.

I did that too...got all excited for a movie, and it was like the movie was beating me with a brick the whole time. I'll watch it with mixed expectations and wait for the result. I may hate it, I may love it, we'll see...I still can't believe there's no giant squit...shit man, what else are they gonna do?

Heres a thought. Their gonna take out the squid and they wanted all the fans to be like "What the fuck" because they thought of something better and will make it fresh, maybe?

Hey also it may have not changed a lot. It could just be a giant *insert other sea creature*.

It will be earth-shatteringly awesome, or a greasy slur on the Watchmen legacy. I feel it will be a very, very polarising film when (if?) it gets released. My main worry is that if Terry Gilliam couldn't manage it, how can Zack "Dawn of the Remake" Snyder?

It's going to be amazing. All you have to do is notice that it's Watchmen so the story will be amazing and notice that it was from the visionary directer of 300 so it's going to have great effects and a great story. And if it's not I will probably leave the theater crying.

And to answer your question, it will be a Dark Knightx10

I'll be honest, I've never read the comics, but from the trailers my obsessed friends have been showing me i hope that the movies good otherwise I'll never hear the end of it (circa Dragon ball: the movie)
