(there might have been a miscalculation but whatevar) we apparently have the best education or something.. and one of the reasons is because we don't have to use eny faggy uniforms or enything like that... I'm just not even making sense enymore sorry

Public schools are owned and ran by private individuals, members of the public if you will, instead of being for the public like in the USA. Paying individuals can go to these schools.

State schools are run by the state, and are the ones that are free for the public.
I believe it's actually from the misguided and out-of-touch view of upper-class rich peoplein the past that it was "public" in the sense of being 'democratic', in it's way, by being open to anyone of any social class (or IQ), admission depending purely upon money, which is clearly available to everyone.
Well, to be fair, that was an educated guess. Went pretty well though.

If we had to ignore idiotic upper-class ideas, I think my definition is a good objective description.

And they still had the same 'we only care about the smart ones' attitude, they gave a lot more attention to the poeple who wanted to be doctors or were oxbridge material, and the rest of us were just bunched together and got significantly less help.
Don't they all? Gets the schools more prestige to try their very best to elevate their best students to the loftiest heights. That's great for the students being elevated of course, but not for the other students. It's happening here in my (state) school (did you mean yours was public or state?), and whilst they are making an admirable job of trying to get all students into university or employment, you can tell it's the Oxbridge brigade that are going to get the most assistance.

Like fuck would I ever go to a religious (since many - if not most - of them are) public school.
Funny that, since in Ireland the state run schools are all run by religious organisations. Well over 90% of primary and over 50% of secondaries. Yay for non secularisation!

Fricking Ireland...

Also, completely unrelated, but also a little curious: Every single person I've met that went to a boarding school is a total prick. And have English accents for some reason...

I tried private school for three years, but that was dumb cause we had to wear uniforms and everything that goes along with private school, so then the rest of my school life was in public school.

Private school in the U.S., but it was extremely poor (so much so that it is now closed), redneck, had horrible teachers (I taught myself), books from the early 90s (graduated high school in 2005, and science textbooks should be no older than 3 years ideally). It's hard to describe how shitty it was. But public school education in my area in South Carolina is one of the worst (that's right, one of the worst districts in one of the worst states). It's basically the opposite of what people think about when you think private school. Also, almost everyone there was a redneck (the kind who are racist but still act thuggish while pulling into school in their ridiculously huge and jacked up trucks blaring last year's hit single from Little John), so I didn't fit in at all.
