I was 15, when the original Metal Gear Solid released. However my parents we're fairly careful of M rated games, any M rated game had to make it past the parent scrutiny. That being said my family was playing T rated games since the beginning of the rating system in 94.

If by playing you mean viewing the content, that's 6 years. I watched my Father play Resident evil 2, Tomb raider and others I can not remember. Well, I played a bit of MK Trilogy, but it doesn't count, since neither me nor him could perform fatalities.

If you mean actual engagement in the proccess, then 11 years. That is the age I started playing myself. I don't remember the games, but at least few were M-rated for sure.

When I was younger than 12. Remember playing lots of GTA: Vice City and San Andreas around that time, and I doubt it was my first M rated game.

Often watched my mom play Wolfenstein when I was like 5 though!

Let's see, MK came out on the SNES in '93, and Doom was released the same year so I guess I was about 7-8 years old when I first played M equivalent games. It's also around when I started watching movies like Terminator and T2. I turned out pretty normal. My mom was a bit wary of letting me play that stuff at first, but she kind of came to her senses and realized I was pretty mature for my age and could probably handle them just fine.

I think the first M rated game I played was GTA: Vice City so I would of been around 8. I had watched M rated games before that though especially the resident evil games. I use to watch my brothers friend play them on the playstation and dreamcast back when he lived with us due to his parents. Anyway my parents aren't strict about video games or movies. They have always treated me more like an adult and neither one really wants to take the time and research the games. They didn't think it would harm me and it didn't. I honestly don't play a lot of M rated games, but when I do my parent are ok with it. I just say what game I want and they would usually get it for me or as I got older I would pay for it it's as simple as that.

The fist rated M game I ever owned was Halo Combat Evolved which I got along with my 360 about three years ago. However, the first time I remember playing a rated M game was about four or five years ago when my cousins brought their 360 and a copy of Halo 3. Of course at that time I had almost no knowledge about Halo at all and the closest games to it I had played were Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2 on the PS2 so I had no idea what the controls for Halo were. This became a fairly large problem when I was trying to get in a ghost but didn't know how to do so and my cousin then came over, took the ghost, then proceeded to kill me several time over.

When I was 18. Not because my parents are super prudes or anything, that was just the age I was when I as able to buy games myself because I had the money to do so. Growing up, my family wasn't rich and the only consoles my parents ever bought me were the Playstation and Nintendo 64, mostly because they were able to get the consoles for cheap because a year later the PS2 was released. However I was playing Mortal Kombat when I was like 5 at the arcades.

Fable 1 at age 9. My sis (12 at the time) loved it, so dad figured i could play too. I didn't understand any of the sex jokes back then, and don't understand half of them now--damn incomprehensible british sexual terms! :p

The first M-rated game I owned was Prince of Persia: Warrior within, let's see, that was in 2004 so I was 11 or 12 years old.
Though I did play Mortal Kombat at my friend's house even before that, I was abot 6 if I recall correctly.
So I guess it's 3-6

My first 18+ game, although I'm not sure if there even was a rating system back then, was this one:

I played it when I was 6-ish, I think. The only damage all the detailed, gory death scenes gave me was an inherent hate for unfair games. Those werewolves...fuck 'em.

8, with the first MK.

Don't get me wrong. Some of the fatalities in the new MK still freak me the fuck out, like Kung Lao's Buzzsaw or the one where Noob Saibot split in two and literally rips you in half.

I have no idea, all I know is that my parents didn't give a shit if I played or watched something violent. However, they would send me off to bed if a movie had sex scenes. WTF?

But, yeah, I mean N64 came out when I was in grade 5 or 6, and I had Turok 2 for that which was probably one of the most gory games for that age. Oh and renting Resident Evil on the N64 (RE2?) was pretty awesome. I also played Blakestone, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Doom II, Quake, and Duke Nukem 3D when they were new. I don't know if they had ratings back then but I'm fairly sure they would have got "M"s. That would put at around 7 years old. Maybe 8.

I have no idea, I don't even know what an M rating actually is. My parents weren't that concerned with violence in videogames, they just limited my time on videogames as a whole.

My parents decided around the time I was 8 that giving me video games may have been a mistake, but the genie was out of the bottle (it wasn't, they just blow things out of proportion).

Fortunately for me, they don't pay close attention to things, so after one vacation, they discovered that they'd bought Halo and Warcraft for me while we were out shopping - and we couldn't exactly return it, now that we were back. Took me another year or two to wrangle a console out of them. Good times.
