Avast! It be the best software out thar, me matey! And it be free!

Seriously, I have a friend who works in IT, he can't recommend Avast enough. I switched from Norton and couldn't be happier. Of course, I also have a linux netbook, so that has nothing on it.
No, they start charging you for the better software eventually. That's what they did to me.

That's when the problem started. They got me to buy something I didn't need, so I've reverted back to McAfee. This AVG seems promising though.
They do? Aw man! What a major letdown. :( Well, I've run both McAfee and Norton now, and I hate both. I'll try some of these others.
Home edition is still free. They only make you re-register every year.

I use AVG on my Vista Partition, but I use Avast! on my XP partition.
(I dual-boot XP and Vista)

Out of the two though, I definitely prefer AVG.

None, most antivirus "products" are as bad or worse than viruses.
That's a very ignorant statement. Wonder how many viruses you have on your pc.
Actually it is a very legitimate statement in an ideal world. The ignorance lies in the fact that if you are using an anti virus as a be all and end all to protection then you're an idiot that shouldn't be allowed access to the internet. Anti virus should be used as a back up to sensible net usage, i.e it is there for that one off occasion when you have checked the .exe source, when you are running the secure web browser with security addons when that one virus manages to evade them all and slip through.

The guy running the anti virus get's it stamped on before it does any damage the smug idiot that thinks he knows all so doesn't need any anti virus then spends three days hunting down a turd of a virus before having to reformat. To put it another way you can drive as safe as you like and not wear a seatbelt but what about that one time you encounter an idiot on the road, how glad will you be safe in the knowledge that you are a really safe driver as you sail through the windscreen?

My seatbelt happens to be Microsoft Security Essentials.

Been using MS Security Essentials since Norton 360 wasnt working with Win7. But I have Norton 360 v. 3 beside me. Will be installing it this weekend. It's a great program. Idk if it's that much better than MSSE, but my parents buy the 3-user Norton, so why not.
