While I am a subject of all three I do like to play as a fighter with a bit of magic to boost myself. I like building myself up as a tank that can also do heavy damage but only when he is being attacked.

Also there is a certain charm to taking a massive load of damage and then scream "WHAT YOU GOT *****?! Is that all you can muster?! HIT ME! I DARE YO...*dead*"

Ranger here.

Gotta say, this has to be the most evenly distributed poll I have seen so far on these here forums.
Fancy.

It'll depend largely on the game, If it's feasible then I'll play a ranger, If rangers are under-powered at low levels (Like in ES:IV) then I'll play as a warrior.

Ranger/ Thief I love sneaking and killing things quietly or knocking them out.

However in a lot of games these classes are always overpowered/ under powered
(I'm looking at you Elder Scrolls)

I hybrid fighter/mage. I like the baddassery of having a sword bigger than the things you're swinging it at, and I also like fireballs. Also, the Mass Effect vanguards are covered by 'magi-knight' and Biotic Charge is deliciously OP. Of course, in a tabletop/pen & paper RPG I'll usually end up playing the face.

I tend to be a thief primarily because that class is quite frequently associated with Charisma. Above anything, Charisma is the attribute I shoot to be the highest. It's always easier to talk yourself out of a fight than wasting time, health potions, and that one arm you forgot you needed, as it is ripped off by an ogre.
Hahaha...silly little Rogue. See, us Mages can blow shit up before it even touches us.

Oh whats that? You're in range? Lemme teleport.

Now I freeze you in place and laugh.

Hahahahaha.

Oh you're an assassin and you think your gonna come from behind and kill me?
Arcane shields and magical armors kinda sorta preventing that.

Oh your some big tanky combative fighter wearing a shit ton of armor?
Let me superheat you with fireballs. Enjoy the self-inserted bronze bull baking coffin! Anyone besides me wanting some delicious fried metal idiot?

What's that? Arrows heading towards my face?
Let me stop time for a second and dodge.

Mages. Win. Everything. :)
A proper warrior would deflect all of your attacks with his beard.

In real life, I think Paladin or Magi-Knight sounds the most like what I am and do.

In games, I tend to pretty much always start out as a Rogue. Sneaking around, exploring the shadows, breaking things and the game. If the game allows me to build up on that, like, say, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Skyrim or Amalur, I go for Leatherman-style omnipurpose roguish type. It's how I enjoy my games the most. Games that just allow me to 'switch' (Dragon's Dogma) I enjoy significantly less.

My first deed in World of Warcraft was to swim around the continent. That was fun, and led me to experience the game unlike anything it was intended, I was later told. It was still great fun.

Interesting. I'd have expected a lot more rogues, from my MMO experiences. Must be a community thing.

Also, no bard? :( Or is "social monster" a specialization of thief?

I usually prefer to be the Thief since I like using blade weapons over magics/ bow however I don't want to be muscular like a warrior.

I'd have to go with the Ranger, based on the poll options. I like sneaky, ranged combat but with the flexibility to go melee when things get hairy.

I find that rather surprising as well. But really that's what this poll is all about: getting a feel for the community and the tastes.

And yeah, I'd classify a Bard as a specialized rogue. There wouldn't be enough room on the poll if I had tried to put in every possible class, that's why I boiled everything down to their most basic, core elements. Bards get by on wit and charisma, which are qualities that come in handy for rogue-type characters. :p

Cleric/Rogues, Why because I can sneak, steal, hold my own face to face and when it all goes down hill, I heal myself and run away.

Thief-Mage, why? Because I can get around without setting off magic sensors when using magic is problematic, and I can use magic to cover my escape when things go wrong. Use your magic to stop other's magic and then stab them in the dark.

I like having a lot of tools at my disposable and being melee which is generally a rouge or mage hybrid. I like my Bards even though they have a bad rep. For the sake of the poll I'll pick spellblade.
Straight fighters bore me to death in most games.

I'll point out now that if an RPG has these three options (or combinations) then that really puts me off the game. I tend to do a bit of everything, so I can sample all the different mechanics and functions. Specialising isn't fun for me.

I love classes with a lot of variety and utility. An example would be the Assassin from Dragons Dogma and Ninja from Etrian Odyssey 3.

Cleric. Who cares how big your sword, fireball or what-have-you is, my character's god fills me with strength, heals my wounds, and grants me some kind of large dog faced man with a really big flaming sword to do my bidding.
