Not sure man. When I travelled down there back in 2001, I have to say, it was one of the neater experiances of my europe travels. I didn't get the sense that the people I talked to in the Irish pub were puritians or snoots. Just seemed like average guys. However I will say one thing I didn't like. I don't believe marijuana is a gate way drug per say...but I do feel it is a gateway for business. What I mean it, I have never been asked more if I want the next higher illicit drug more (Cocain) than when I walked the streets of the Red light. Seems when a niche is available for drug use, in a heavily drug used area, the market grow's quite a bit larger than in a place where illicit drug use is forbidden. Not sure how I feel about that entirely though. I personally think the choice is better than making criminals out of people. I also don't understand why the oldest business in the world (prostitution) is illegal in most places, but it's nice to see freedom of choice works in Amsterdam.Sjakie said:Im all for it, most of the younger Dutch are. But the way it's going, it will probably dissappear in the next year or so. Police is cracking down on it since it is often connected to (sex)slave-traders which is a good thing. But it's mostly religious puritains that are really against it and just want to get rid of it because "what will the (European) neigbors say?".Samcanuck said:I have met a few people from the Netherlands...mostly when I traveled through there. To Quote my favorite Hero George Carlin:
"Whats so criminal about selling somebody an Orgasm?"

I cant change it and I dont hate its better than the steroe type of clogs and traditionel clothingSamcanuck said:Don't you mean "Just like beer and hockey are for Canada." But still I'm not sure I follow, I have heard that natives from Netherlands, especially Amsterdam, hate the sterotype that the red light district presents because it is so different from the culture surrounding it.henritje said:its just part of the Netherlands most people from the USA only know the drug policy windmills and the whores its part of the Netherlands just like guns are a part of the USASamcanuck said:I have met a few people from the Netherlands...mostly when I traveled through there.
